Great quality and service. We did some entertaining recently, and needed some specific cuts of meat, which Hanlen’s provided at a reasonable price. Love it! Will continue to use them for those special occasions!!! Bill in Ballwin

Stopped in for the first time to pick up some steaks, and the people here are so very nice. We took a while to figure out what we wanted, and the man behind the counter was patient with us while we chose. The prices are very reasonable, and the meats are very high quality and very fresh. They even packaged our sirloin with marinade for us so that we didn’t need to when we got home(again, great service!). I can’t wait to go back and try new things. I took a previous reviewer’s advice and bought the bacon wrapped cheddar stuffed steak bites and can’t wait to give them a try. I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

We order a fresh turkey from Hanlen’s every Thanksgiving. They’re always great! Steaks are a real treat too!

Seriously the best filets we have ever had, twice! I HIGHLY recommend they«season» the steaks for you. It is the icing on the cake. Very nice people and family owned too. We do not buy our steaks from anywhere but Hanlen’s!

This place rocks. Amazing cutes of meat! Really nice people and quality that exceeds even the best supermarkets. I had the tenderloin wraped with bacon. My host pan seared it which I thought might make it come out overcooked. OMG it was awesome.

I love Hanlen’s since this is where i go to get my dog food! They sell 5lb chunks of ground chicken w/bones for 5.00! I buy about 8 at a time… so they keep my dog’s tails waggin’! Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. If we lived closer, we’d stop in more often to get our meat here!

Being creatures of habit, we almost always get our foodstuffs from Shnuck’s or Dierberg’s because they are close and convenient, but Hanlen’s Meat Shoppe needs some lovin’ too! This is the place go if you want real«Mom and Pop» style service, and awesome meat products as well. The shop is nice and cool in the summertime, and always appears neat and clean, with the same friendly folks waiting behind the counter to greet you each time. If you’re in the mood for a tasty little treat that won’t break the bank, go for the bacon-wrapped, cheese-stuffed steak tips. You bet your ass they’re good! We’re not talking about gristly scraps, either. Delicious, tender, little nuggets of beef paired with chunks of cheddar, carfully swaddled in bacon-y goodness. All of their meats are excellent, but I happen to think that their ribs really shine. If I’m just heading out to the lake and want to eat right away, I’ll get some that have already been smoked. You can get them straight up, rubbed with seasoning, or smothered in sauce. All varieties are delectable, and prices are reasonable. Perhaps the most endearing feature of this institution is the staff. They’re quirky and inviting. For instance, the lady working the register asked me no fewer than five times, «How ya doin’ today?» She was very friendly, and each time she asked, she seemed genuinely interested in whether or not my condition had changed any time in the past 2 minutes. She won’t be accused of being a great conversationalist, but it’s part of the character of the place. The guys behind the meat counter, on the other hand, can regale you with tales of Whitey Herzog and Lou Brock, like they happened yesterday. That’s the funny thing. I’m not sure these guys could tell you who won the World Series last year, but they vividly remember moments from ballgames on hot August nights 50 years ago. Nostalgic memories and fine, fresh meats. I’m sold! Give this place a try next time you’re having a BBQ, or just want to throw a special treat on the grill for yourself. Gotta support the little independent shops so they can keep a roof over their heads. You’ll thank me later for the bacon/cheese/steak recommendation.
