I choose to Unilocal when astounded by service. The organization between the receptionist and barbers at this location blew my mind. I was able to get to my appointment 15 minutes early so a wait was expected. However, when it gets to be 15 minutes past my appointed time and others are walking in the door with times 15 minutes after mine and getting a barber immediately it makes me question the management and their process/procedure for taking clients. FIFO is the simplest form of production… One gentleman was even serviced prior to his appointed time during my wait. Avoid this location if you have another barber in your area, that is, unless you have patience for this type of unjust experience.

I take both my boys, 6 and 10, to hair saloon in Webster and we always book with Kim McBride when we plan ahead. She is really great, does a wonderful job and puts up with the kids’ wiggling. Although she does not put up with them too much and knows when to lay down the law(in a nice way). My older son actually cried once a couple of jears ago(yes, we are long-time customers) when we needed to get in and she wasn’t available, so we decided it could wait. The reason I cannot give 5 stars is that every time we call we are put on hold for a long time. Sometimes too long, and I end up hanging up. I agree, the customer checking out is top priority. But, if you do not have enough staff to take care of the phones with alacrity then hire more staff. Or a savvy stylist trying to build their clientele could take the phones during some off hours and probably fill their schedule. I’m just sayin’ Online booking would be a hit with me!

The Hair Saloon fancies itself a sanctuary for men, the kind of place that existed in Ye Olde Days, before ‘stylists’ and ‘frou-frou’ were even words. For whatever reason, my regular barber wasn’t available, so I thought I’d try the Hair Saloon. On the plus side, they take walk ins and are pretty reasonably priced. More expensive than my neighborhood barber, but then again, it’s a chain with all the wood furniture, reception desk, and other trappings, so it’s fair. They also accept credit cards. Huzzah! But on the negative side, I guess I can’t buy into the schtick. I mean, what Olde Tymey barbershop employs stylists? Shouldn’t they be, like, barbers? With the warm cream and straight razor? And what barbershop serves a soda or gives you a mint after your haircut? So basically, the back story falls a little flat. If you want a slightly upscale Great Clips experience, the Hair Saloon may be for you. Until then, if you want a real barber experience, go to a barber.

I’m very loyal to hair saloon. I won’t go anywhere else. Relaxing atmosphere and I’ve never had a bad customer service experience. They have my business!

The haircut you’ll get at Hair Saloon for Men in Webster Groves is a crapshoot. It all depends on the stylist. If you get one of the Kims or Judy, you’ll probably get a pretty decent cut. But, if you’re unlucky enough to get Becky or one of the others, you’ll look like you’ve come from the butchers! And, the receptionist, Amy… seriously lacking in personality, and if she has to get up off her chair, she’s not going to do it, whatever it is!

So I know it looks like I just got my hair cut 3 days ago and now I’m back again. The truth is, my last visit to the Hair Saloon was more like a month ago. Please read the last bit of my previous review for the explanation. Anyway, this review will be covering the last time I visited the Hair Saloon in Webster. As I always do, I wait WAY too long between hair cuts so the stylist can hardly recognize me under my unruly mane of fluff. I went around 10am and the place was still deserted, which my stylist told me was unusual. I should point out that this was a different stylist from the last one I saw when I rated Hair Saloon a 5. I was transitioning from medium length to short length hair and all I really told my stylist was, «I want it short enough to gel up into a spike. Please leave the top longer than the sides.» That’s the general gist of my signature hair style and that’s about as much consistent detail that I can manage when always being bumped to different stylists. Despite how vague I was, despite the new stylist whom I had never met, despite the fact that Hair Saloon had not taken any notes from my last visit to use as a template, in spite of all of these factors the hair cut I got was EXACTLY what I wanted! Now, the reason this is a big deal for me, HUGE deal to be fair, is that this is the exact same thing I’ve done for months at Great Clips. I never bothered to go to the same stylist(although on several occasions I DID get the same one) and despite giving lots of feedback and constantly updating the notes on my preferred hair style, they always managed to deliver a hair cut that was always *not quite* what I wanted. I usually left thinking, «This will be a good hair cut… in about 2 weeks.» And the only similarity I can draw from the last Hair Saloon experience to this one is the degree of meticulousness in how the stylist cut my hair, a centimeter at a time. A great quality cut, pretty much exactly how I’d envisioned it, PLUS free shoe shine(not that I’ve taken advantage of it yet), free drink, free scalp massage and shampoo, free styling and a free hot towel– all for slightly more than what you’d pay at Great Clips? Well played, Hair Saloon. Very well played. As a PS, I also learned that you can drop off shoes for your free shine. Just take a pair with you when you go and leave them with the attendants. They’ll call you when they’ve had a chance to shine them. NOADDITIONALCHARGE!
