Dirt Cheap Cigarettes Beer & Liquor

I love this St. Louis chain of liquor stores. The local TV adds had a spokesman that looked like he had lived an adventurous and fun life. Perhaps not as long as he appeared. But you had to love the tag line, was «the more she drinks the better you look». It always made me chuckle.
I had been in a few of these that were not very clean, not so at this location. It was spotless at this location. Although I did notice that they had this big poles in from of the store. Perhaps to assist with the parking of the drunken Casanovas?
The people working here were very nice they showed me the specials. They also pointed out that they do not up charge for the holiday specials. The price is the same for the booze, regardless of the trinket. So maybe they are guilty of enabling?

Dirt Cheap offers slightly-​reduced prices on alcohol. I can’t comment on the cigarettes since I don’t smoke, but when I did several years ago, their cartons were well priced and they give you a free lighter with your purchase of a carton. They have a fairly decent selection of cheap wines– not well stocked on the higher end wines, but they do have a good selection from local wineries. Basically a great place to grab some sweet wines or your fave box of Franzia. They have a fair amount of cold six packs of domestic and microbrew beers. They also have hard liquor and carry about anything you could want. All of the employees chain smoke while working, so it smells terrible. There is often a police officer hanging out near the cash registers– I’m guessing to scare away the underaged? I’m curious to check out Fred’s Cheapo Depot (located across the street) after the former owner was apparently bought out and started a hilarious rivalry (Fred gets a neon sign, so does Dirt Cheap. Fred puts out an inflatable, so does Dirt Cheap). Who knows, maybe they’ll drive each other’s prices down.

Seriously, anyplace that has the slogan, «the more of our liquor she drinks the better you look» should never get any props. That said, if you are looking for cheap cigarettes, liquor, or cigars, and at some locations, gas, they aren’t really lying. They really are dirt cheap.
There really is no place trashier though. All the employees smoke while they work, so the place positively reeks, but I mean, it IS a cigarette outlet, so what do you expect? And can we talk about the Dirt Cheap brand beer. Wow. It’s seriously the worst beer I have ever tasted. It’s like poison. I would rather drink a week old keg of the beast. It makes me long for my college days of Keystone Light.
The place has locations all over the city, so it’s convenient too. However, from what I can tell, the prices really aren’t that much cheaper than any Quick Trip I have been too, and Quick Trip has that awesome soda fountain.
In short, it’s not a horrible place and you really can get cheap booze and smokes if you are looking for them. And besides… their offensive commercials have at least brought us some laughs. I mean, that chicken is right up there with Becky Queen of Carpets when it comes to St. Louis Commercial Icons.
