Went there yesterday for two strand twists with extensions. I usually get Jody(who is AMAZING) but no longer works there. I instead got Constance, who thinks that just because she is the stylist, I should trust her 100% and my input while she was braiding my hair meant nothing. For instance, I tried to tell her the braids were too big and she said«IM the stylist and I know what you want». I texted my mom to tell her my disappointment with the service and the stylist and after my hair was done, she said«texting your mom is inappropriate and we’re not going to get along if this keeps happening». 1) It is well within my purview ASTHECUSTOMER to text anyone I want about how to go about telling a headstrong stylist my opinions about my own hair and 2) why are you looking at my phone in the first place. Then she pulled another stylist in the back, presumably to bad mouth me. Constance pulls me aside(mind you, with a bunch of clients there) and says«I can just take your hair down and you can walk out of the store or you can stop complaining and keep getting your hair twisted». this girl has a terrible attitude. After sitting back in the chair, I constantly held up a mirror to make sure the braids were the size I wanted, because she had messed that up before(I showed her a picture of the style another stylist at Cultivate did for me). She kept complaining about how thats inappropriate because I should trust her as the stylist. However, I had a style in mind and if that style doesn’t look how I want it to look, she needs to be open to criticism. Bad attitude and would never go to Constance or Cultivate again.

I waited 48 minutes past my appointment time. Just as I was getting up to leave I was called to the chair. On my weave take town Anjanette tried to detangle my hair, dry with nothing in, tearing and breaking my hair. She kept me turned away from the mirror almost the whole time. I had to tell her not to detangle my hair when it was dry. I would expect someone with experience with natural hair to know better. Not the best quality sew-in I have experienced. The styling on my leave out, was minimal. The stylist wanted to go home and just rushed my hair at the end. I expected better. I won’t be back. Also, from what I saw in the salon, they are not good with wash and goes, if that is how you wear your hair. They seem to do okay with braided and twist styles. If you have been to natural salons in Chicago or NYC, you are not going to get that kind of experience here.

I found Cultivate and was hesitant to give it a try because I was newly natural. That was a year ago and I haven’t looked back. I can’t believe how healthy and strong my hair is now. I wanted dreadlocks and I’ve had them for the past year. I wouldn’t trust ANYONE else with the health of my hair. My stylist Anjanette makes me feel comfortable she asks what I want and need for my hair. She always makes time even if it’s for a last minute appointment. Coming to Cultivate Salon feels like a breath of fresh air. Friendly and PROFESSIONAL staff. Hands down the best experience I’ve had to date. I ALWAYS get compliments on my locs and style! The appointment was going really well in the beginning however that soon changed. I told the stylist before I arrived that this was my second time seeing a stylist for my newly natural hair. I have 4a and 4b coils that I love but I needed help maintaining. I originally came for a trim because it was desperately needed. She convinced me to get the diva curl and I was excited about it. During the middle of the appointment she told me that she would have to charge me extra because my hair was such in bad shape. Yes let me repeat. Charge me extra because my hair was such in bad shape and it was making her late for her other appointment. My hair is healthy, curly to my shoulders, but had some shaggy ends that needed to be cut. Yeah… She charged me an extra $ 10 and of course I left no tip. Throughout the experience the stylist was rude and demeaning. When I asked a question about my hair maintenance she gave snarky remarks. Not a great experience at all.
