I used to hang around the airport in the mid 80’s when it was just one hanger. Someone was putting together the last remaining airplane from Alaska with a wooden ski. The best memory is about the people. Great. I remember one pilot who was gracious enough to let me go along for the rides. If anyone knows where Bud Fuchs is, please tell him I was Sgt Cousar who was stationed at the Army Records Center. 417−763−0182 Thanks for great memories.

My dad has housed his prized possession(an antique WWII Stearman Bi-Plane) here for as long as I can remember. The place used to be nothing but a grass airstrip, but thankfully has gone through some major improvements over the last 10 years. The museum is seriously impressive with tons of different types of antique aircraft. People come in from all over the country to see the collection that resides here. In addition, the people that have their personal planes here are always on hand to explain a bit about the history of the airport as well as give you some flying pointers if you’re so inclined. I’ve been coming here since I was in diapers and it really is one of the finest little airports I’ve seen. My dad just can’t stay away and you’ll often find him trolling around, cleaning his plane and taking people for rides. I’ve got a lot of great memories of this place!

Those interested in antique aircraft, or flying in general, should not give this little airport a miss. It boasts a museum with the largest collection of flying antique aircraft in the country(the Smithsonian is bigger, but their planes are on static display), and aside from the museum, there are dozens of other planes that you can watch fly around on a nice day — and Stephanie’s dad isn’t the only one who will gladly give you a ride in one of the antiques. Stop by on a Sunday and you might be able to catch some of the lunch that the members of the airport have weekly, hosted by my own grandfather, who is one of the owners there.
