Best steak ever! The steak was very tender and it was cooked perfectly. I had the medium-well filet and it was fantastic. We ordered a few bottles for the table(cabernet) and it was a nice selection. For sides I recommend the mashed potatoes or the spinach.

Came here for dinner on my birthday and was not disappointed! Definitely the best filet I’ve had in St. Louis. The mashed potatoes and house salad dressing are both exquisite! The atmosphere is classy, and it’s so much fun that the restaurant was a residence in it’s past life. The food is reasonably priced considering the steaks come with sides. If you’re looking for a good steak and excellent service in St. Louis, you can go wrong with Citizen Kane’s.

I have been coming to citizen Kane’s for a while, but I hadn’t been until yesterday. It was worth the visit. I ordered the filet mignon and the salad with vinaigrette dressing. I enjoyed the dressing on the side, and found it delectably sweet. The filet was perfectly cooked. From first bite to the last it was absolutely delicious. As it was my birthday, I also got a slice of homemade cake. I quite enjoyed my evening at citizen Kane’s, and I will be back next year for my birthday dinner again.

Went to Citizen Kane’s because I wanted a big, juicy steak and in that aspect Citizen Kane’s does not disappoint. Ordered the ribeye, medium rare and when the waitress put my steak down, I thought — well I’m getting two meals, as there is no way I can eat this amount of meat in one sitting. And I consider myself capable of some pretty impressive overeating! Baked potato and the soup of the day were good, but the one comment I will say is that the sauces/soups, etc, everything is so heavy. By that, lots of cream, lots of calories! Wife ordered the salmon and it too had a very heavy cream sauce. Well prepared, but since it’s fish, perhaps a lighter sauce as this could be viewed as a healthy choice??? Make no mistake this is a steak restaurant and they are good at what they do, but I wanted to run home due to the amount of calories I ate, but maybe that’s the point, right?

The best steak in Saint Louis by far!!! My husband and I have pretty much been to every steak place in Saint Louis and this is the BEST. Everything here is amazing and the service is top notch.

The only complaint is the price. It is a tad high. You get what you pay for, however, and the food is exceptionally good. The service is also impeccable. We came here for the first time over 20 years ago and the food and service have never wavered. We would eat here more often if we could afford to. The steaks are absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection.

Overrated!!! The atmosphere is so weird, everything is crammed together it’s like eating dinner in someone’s attack. It’s old and outdated. You’re eating your $ 100 dinner on a tiny table with a plastic table cloth. It’s not pleasant. I dined with my fiancé and our siblings in our church clothes before an Easter vigil service so we looked nice but we were treated like children. Instead of being welcoming and inquiring about our visit as we heard a neighboring server asking her table, our server was short with us. My fiancé is 29, almost 30 and he ordered a glass of wine. After several minutes the manager came to the table and rudely announced«Mm yeah I’m not buying that anyone at this table is 30». It was incredibly tacky and so rude! All of the tables around us stared — what should have been a nice evening was quickly an embarrassing event. She studied his ID and asked for multiple other forms of ID. While I fully understand you have to do your job and ensure you’re not serving a minor — we work in the industry and that could have been handled differently. I am 25 and his brother is 24 — regardless if we look young, three of us are well above the drinking age. It was ridiculous and she didn’t apologize for the inconvenience. Things didn’t improve. Our server was forgetful, left things at our table, brought things no one at the table needed and had told her so ahead of time. Then there’s the food. The steaks are huge because they’re full of fat. None of us were impressed with our meals. All of the sides were cold and unimpressive. She actually forgot to bring my fiancé and his brothers baked potatos and when she did they weren’t cut open. What is this, a do it yourself? Honestly the food would have been less noticeable if the customer service had been better. But as it was we nitpicked the rest of the meal. We couldn’t get through dinner fast enough and a lot of our food was not eaten. Like another review we took our steak home. I was surprised when my fiancé asked for it to be boxed up and he smiled and said«I really love our dog». We won’t be back. You can pay less for better.

Citizen Kane’s Steakhouse is located off of N. Kirkwood Red on Clinton, next to the Taco bell in what use to be a home. They offer complementary valet parking. It is a small, charming restaurant, clean and well kept. There is a coat rack as soon as you step through the 1st set of doors, which a sign states the restaurant is not responsible for any items. Our waitress was Kit. She was very helpful, polite and knowledgeable. She knew the menu like the back of her hand and provided very useful suggestions. There was only one bus boy for the entire night whom was amazing. He was very attentive and polite. I began with a Brandy Alexander… absolutely delicious and filling, tasted like an eggnog. We ordered the New York Strip and Tenderloin Medallions with mushroom Burgundy sauce both medium. The steaks were cooked to perfection. They were flavorful and juicy. The NYS was massive, I think it was 18oz, enough for two. Our sides were the garlic mashed potatoes and boarding house potatoes. The garlic mashed was my favorite. Each entrée came with their signature Rosebud salad with either Mayfair dressing(like a ceasar) or house vinaigrette(sweet). The salads are nice sized. Both dressings are tasty, mixing them is out of this world. As soon as you’re seated, your glasses are filled and warm bread and smooth room temperature butter are placed on the table. The meal is a great value. The menu is very limited but well executed. We were too stuffed for dessert. Will definitely return!!!

December 17, 2015 Four friends went here last night and spent $ 400, including tip. The place is really swell. The server, Brittany was on her game the whole evening, excellent, which is why this is 4 stars and not 3. Two of us ordered the pork and beef special. Mine, the pork part was dry and tough. The beef part was a bit too dry considering it had a bernaise sauce on top. My friend has never had a bad meal so it’s hard to get an opinion for a review such as this. The other 2 guys said theirs was fine. We also ordered the appetizer sampler which I recommend. The wine list was excellent even if a wine I can get at the local store for $ 12 and sold in this place for $ 44. Kinda grinds my gears a bit. Pre dinner drinks, a Seagrams and 7-up was $ 9.75. Average pour at best. I’d go back as the atmosphere is comfortable and easy. Not a large place but a revamped 2 story old house. If you’re not good at steps ask for main floor seating when you make your reservation.

We went to Citizen Kanes for our anniversary. It is a very special place to us. This place is amazing and the steaks are the BEST! We have the Filet with a baked potato. Service is outstanding. Our entire family and extended family give gift cards to each other for birthdays and Christmas. We like it that much.

We have been going to CK for 10+ years. Their steaks are amazing and I have never had a bad steak. I usually get the strip which is huge and I can never finish it. This is one of the only places in STL that understands what it means to cook a steak Pittsburgh rare. The Mayfair dressing is great and something I crave. Oh and the chocolate chip cheesecake is TODIEFOR!!! I don’t care how stuffed I am, I will make room for it! If you happen to go on a Saturday(which you need reservations) ask for Abbie-she is seriously great!

I was looking forward to Citizen Kane because of the building as much as the food and as such I was very disappointed. The victorian house has not been keep to period and in fact is quite shabby. I am from the Detroit area and was recently at The Whitney House. If you look that up you will understand my disappointment. The service was very good. Our server Amy was very attentive, informative and friendly. My husband ordered the filet, garlic mashed and salad with vinaigrette. I ordered the new york strip, baked potato and salad with Mayfair dressing. The salads were average but they were fresh. Unfortunately, I forgot to order the dressing on the side and they were way overdressed. The lettuce was swimming in the dressing on both salads. The steaks are a large portion and came out cooked perfectly and were very tasty. The potatoes were also good(hard to mess up a potato). We opted for dessert so we got to go boxes for the leftovers. My husband ordered flan and I got the chocolate cake. The flan was good but the chocolate cake not so much. It was a microwaved chocolate sheet cake with chocolate frosting. I was surprised by the sheet(why not layer) cake and the fact that the bottom was hot enough to scorch my tongue. The frosting really turned me off though. It had a gritty crystallized sugar texture. I told my displeasure to Amy when she asked and she had it taken off our bill. One drink each, dinner and dessert came to $ 120. For the amount of food it is reasonably priced. The steaks were good but I won’t be back because there are so many other places to get a good steak. This place was nothing special.

Once again, one of THE best steak houses around. All 3 of us enjoyed our RibEye, Strip Steak, Filet and Pork Medallion combo, cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of seasoning seared onto it with that slightly crusty outside that I love! This was a Wed evening, the place was about 50% full and we received full attention of the waiter and bus staff. The carrot cake was not near as good as the one I make and had too much cinnamon in it, but no biggie. 10+ from us!

Since we are steak livers, lol, the BF has been told by several people he knows that thus was the best place for a steak. So we visited on Friday when we pulled up, they offered valet parking, which was nice. We did not have a long wait at all, but we got there just in the nick of time. We had drinks, which were good. Vince had a New York strip and I had a rib bye. We both had salads. They used their own spices too. It was good, nothing really stood out about the steak, but I liked the flavoring. The BF said he would get the rib bye if we came back; the strip was smaller than what he was used to getting, but he said it was okay. The staff was very nice, the bartender was very nice and even the customers were nice. I ended up talking about my doctoral research to a guy who was earning his MD and his gf just graduated with hers, so we had plenty to talk about. Lol. So after we paid, we were given a bottle of their steak seasoning! Now that was cool. We picked up our car, which came very quickly and off we went. I like this place because of the ambiance. I would be back buy only if in Kirkwood again.

I haven’t been to Citizen Kane’s in years, but it hasn’t changed one bit. With all the other fancy-schmany steak houses in the area, this one seems to get overshadowed by them all and I never think to come here. The restaurant is located inside a charming Victorian home right in the heart of Kirkwood. The complimentary valet attendants that happily greet you are always a nice welcome. Stepping inside, it could use some updating though. There are two levels of dining with a bar on the lower level as well. Being that the layout is that of an old home, there are plenty of little rooms full of tables that lends a certain coziness to the dining experience. I think a few simple updates such as removing the worn green carpet, replacing the vinyl tablecloths with linen, and switching out some of the dated décor on the walls could do wonders. However, what it lacks in prettiness, it more than makes up with in the food. I like that all entrees are a set price and include a choice of soup or salad and one side. That is something you definitely don’t find at those fancy-schmancy places I referred to above. I was dining with my husband and in-laws, and to start, three of the four of us got salads while my father-in-law chose the beef and barley soup of the day. The salads have plenty of goodies in them and the dressings are made in house. We ordered a variety of steaks… filets, filet medallions topped with mushroom burgundy sauce, and ribeye. All were cooked perfectly and were so juicy and flavorful. We also chose a variety of different sides including baked potato, garlic mashed potato, and sautéed potatoes with onions and peppers. Again, all were delicious. I’ll have to try and keep this place in mind the next time I’m craving a good steak. I don’t want to go another several years without a meal that good again!
