With the opening of Pure Barre and several other studios in St. Louis, this studio leaves much to be desired. The flow of the studio is a bit awkward, unless you walk in from the back entrance. Otherwise, you end up either interrupting a class in-session, or walking into a dimly lit kids’ area, which felt out of place. I took a class here, where the instructor’s transitions were a bit awkward as well as the gaps in the class. I was sore the next day, but I’ve unfortunately had much better workouts in this city. Watch out: the lock on their bathroom door is extremely sticky so don’t go in unless someone can get you out on the other side.

This is a great studio! I had never tried Barre before, but they were very welcoming and helpful with explaining different terms and paying attention to my form. I also love their cardio conditioning class… Jess is challenging and motivating and I’m always sore the next day. She uses a mix of body weight and dumbbell exercises with modifications for all fitness levels. The studio itself is very clean and there is parking in the back.

So I went to check in one evening while at the studio, and was shocked to find this place wasn’t on Unilocal yet! I heard some good things about barre classes, and stumbled upon this studio(the only barre studio in the city!) so I decided to try it out! I’m about a month in, and I’m loving every workout. It’s always a challenge, and the instructors are fabulous. Never quite the same routine, mixing in different positions and challenges every class. Most of the classes are pretty small(less than 10 people) so you get some great one-on-one feedback, which is so important with this kind of workout. Never heard of barre classes? There’s a few different varieties, but I’d describe it as yoga meets p90x meets calisthenics. I’d imagine if you had a dance background, the flexibility would come far easier and you wouldn’t feel like your body is about to collapse into a pile of goo as often as I do — but no matter your background it’s definitely doable :) The classes are a bit pricey, but they run pretty good specials and packages, particularly for new clients. They offer a few other classes besides barre if that peaks your interest. Oh, and I almost forgot — you can sign up for classes online/app, which is worth 5 stars on its own in my book :) f you’re intrigued, I’m totally recommend giving it a shot!
