The Hair District

This review is specifically for the hair stylist TERRY LIEN. I had to cancel an appointment with him with short notice because of an unexpected medical appointment and he responded, very unprofessionally by ‘yelling’ at me. I am a responsible person but I was unable to make his appointment because I went in for a routine medical check-​up that turned into something more serious. While I was at the hospital I gave the Hair District a call to let them know that I will be unable to make it for my appointment. Shortly after I spoke with the receptionist, I got a call from Terry and his exact words were «I am just calling to let you know that I do not tolerate last minute cancellations. You will have to find another stylist because you do not have an appointment with me anymore»
Terry or the Management at The Hair District, I hope you realize that this was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I do not recommend Terry as a stylist for anyone.

I had a horrible experience with Stephanie Fitch. I showed her a picture, discussed it and got nothing like it. I ended up with skunk like highlights that looked like a really bad early 2000’s Kelly Clarkson. Absolutely awful. This does not reflect on other stylists there, as each stylist rents their space.

I went here to have my hair blown out for my engagement pictures-​I wanted it to look a little smoother and nicer than I can do myself, but to still look like me. Admittedly it was a little last minute and not my usual stylist, but I figured it was a hair salon I’d heard good things about so what could go wrong – I definitely should’ve done my own hair. It was a humid day, and I have naturally curly hair but it does straighten well, so I asked to have it straight and if she could put something in to help with the frizz because of the humidity. Stephanie blew out my hair and put probably a can of hairspray in, so it hardly moved, not very natural. Initially it was very straight with a weird outward flip on the bottom (think 70’s). I had previously told her that when I straighten it I use hot rollers to smooth it and give it a little body, so at this point I asked her to just curl the ends under a little, instead she put ringlets in! Needless to say, this is nothing like I wear my hair when it’s straight. I attempted to fix it at home but there wasn’t enough time to shower and completely redo my hair and makeup before pictures, so I just had to suck it up, but I will not be going back to Stephanie again and wouldn’t recommend her to anyone else, I feel like she practically ruined my pictures (also, I was told she starts at $ 35 for a blowout, I have shoulder length hair that’s not very thick and it was $ 45, so not only was I unhappy with my hair, and now my pictures, but it was also more than I expected).

Leah Dirkes is the best! Men or women. Been going to her for over 3 years now, following her from that «other» place… R Altobelli. Found her by accident, have been going to her ever since. Busy salon, lots of good stylists. They’ll take walk-​ins.

Basically got booted out by Curtis because I was ten minutes late for my appointment. Of course I felt bad about being late, but I don’t think it was a bad enough offense to receive the treatment I got from him. Unprofessional and quite upsetting.

Love this place! Clean and bright inside, great staff and location.
If you’re a blonde looking for color, I recommend seeing Emily Olson. She gave me exactly what I was looking for. Natural highlights, not far off from my natural hair color which can be tough. She did a great job and I will 100% be going back.

I get my hair done here by Brigid Karelitz and she is fantastic! I moved to the state last fall and one of my biggest concerns was finding a new hair stylist for my curly/​wavy, thick, coarse hair. Most stylists have trouble with it. Brigid does my hair so well that most days I can spend less than 20 minutes on it. She is punctual, takes your concerns and requests seriously, and a great conversationalist! Great experience overall.

Made a last minute appointment with Nicole. I have fine textured hair and she knew how to work with it. She did high/​low lights and a haircut. I love it! I am new to the area and had been putting off getting my hair done. I just couldn’t wait any longer. So glad I found Nicole! Great salon too!

I finally got in for a brow wax with Kelly Carlson. WOW. WOW. She did brow mapping (yep, just like you’ve seen on Oprah), did an excellent job waxing, tweezing and trimming, and THEN followed up with some education (and a demonstration) on how to fill in my brows myself. They look fantastic!
I also saw long-​time nail extraordinaire, Laura Evans. She’s still the best for mani/pedi’s in Minneapolis. My nails and cuticles always look perfect.

Fantastic haircut and a great atmosphere. I was traveling so didn’t know anything about it except what I read on Unilocal.They went out of their way to schedule me at the last minute and take care of me when I got there. Totally recommend it !!!

I followed my stylist, Nicolette, from another location. She has cut my hair for almost 9 years and I love her. She’s not just a great stylist (and one I trust to let her do what she likes) but she is friendly and treats me like a friend rather than a client.
The salon itself is nice tho I haven’t tried any of the spa services.

Love The Hair District! Ask for Sarah– she is amazing. I really liked how she took the time to talk me through my color choice. I even got a complimentary make up touch up– fun! Everyone was very friendly, and they offer a wide variety of services.

Ask for Emily — she does a great job. Whenever I leave after seeing her, I look AND feel like the «belle of the ball.»

I love The Hair District in St. Louis Park! I have very thick, wavy hair and Stylist Krissa has been keeping my locks looking great for over four years! She pays attention to detail, is very personable, and will never sell you products or services you don’t need. I’ve tried three other high end salons in the four years I’ve lived in Minnesota and I always come back to Krissa because of her fantastic skills and personality. I also enjoy the fact that the Hair District has very convenient hours and is easily accessible.

Just came back from a really great experience here. First of all I called only two hours before my appointment and they got me in right away. I got a foil and my brows done and it came to about $ 100. I LOVE my hair and brows, Leah totally made my day. Such friendly, personable people work here. From reception to stylists and the stylists around you, so nice. Another bonus about going to The Hair District was the PARKING! It’s free friends. Free, free, free. How can you not enjoy an easy parking? After a rude experience at certain local, well known hair school post grad salon in Uptown, I found The Hair District to be worth both my time and money. I will be back!

The Hair District is filled with talented and friendly staff. I was in recently and Susanne gave me a cut and Rodney introduced my head to lowlights. Excellent layering both from the cut and color, my hair is easy to style and looks much thicker. Great place for they guys too!

I was in serious need of a haircut last week and I had been putting it off as long as I could, but finally the time had come. I stopped by The Hair District in the hopes that they could squeeze me in that afternoon — the woman at the front was very friendly and I only had to wait maybe 5 minutes at the most before Nikki showed me to her station. She was easy to talk to, gave me some great tips, and cut just enough length off to even things out, which was exactly what I was looking for. Even after a week or so it still looks great and she cut it in a way that looks like it will grow out nicely. I’m not sure yet if I’ll make this my regular salon, but I would definitely go back, especially if I need a trim in a hurry.
