We went here for a competition(Battle of the Boxes). I really dug the layout. Had a large upstairs where all the athletes and spectators could watch/relax. It appears to have been a health club that has been outfitted into a CrossFit gym. I mean there is a sauna, an old aerobics room and a little kitchen. The event was run very well, nice and smooth and fast! Not much standing around and waiting.

OK, I admit — I was a skeptic. I am glad I didn’t make a bet with anyone about«never ever joining CrossFit.» I lived in LA for 12 years and CrossFit was a cult and if you didn’t belong, you were noth’n. Cut to me moving back to Michigan and not being able to find a boot camp group training class or a personal trainer I liked to save my life. So, I swallowed my pride and called up Motor City CrossFit. When you join — they have you go through an introduction and assessment. Then you do 3 one-on-ones with a certified trainer to learn form, technique, and what the heck WOD, Snatch, Clean, etc. are. It’s so confusing! I just did my first group class and love it. No pressure to keep up with the person next to you — it’s all about beating yourself and improving your time or increasing your weights.
