I travel a lot and usually end up at a local Mexican restaurant — sometimes I get lucky and find a good spot to come back to — other times, not so much. I Unilocaled Mexican food and found this gem of a place. The taco sauce– both green and red — are very unique and excellent. The first thing I ordered was a steak taco made with homemade corn tortilla. I devoured it and enjoyed every bite. Next came my Chorizo Burrito and will say it’s the best that I have tasted. I must say, the entire experience was very authentic to the all Spanish speaking TV, to my waitress who didn’t speak much English but that was all good. She was very pleasant. Overall food is great, nice portions, priced right and good, friendly service!

Wonderful little joint. Booths are a bit run down, but everything else was so much fun. The tacos were amazing, our waitress spoke very little english but we were able to communicate(and she made it so much fun!), and the TV with spanish shows was great. One thing I did not realize was that you pay the check at the window when finished, and you seat yourself despite the lack of signage.

Good choice for real Mexican food. The salsa is hot but fresh. Had the pastors torta and was very good.

I read the reviews and it sounded awesome. So we visited tonight and it was far from what we expected. I understand that it’s a dive, I understand that it’s semi self serv; but the food is just barely ‘ok’. The waitress spoke some English and was very nice; although she forgot ½ our food. The burrito was almost cold and looked to be a mix of pureed cheese, chicken, and rice. The tacos were filled with an abundance of dry and fairly bland steak bits and sprinkled with raw onions and cilantro. My wife got steak and shrimp fajitas. The shrimp still had the tails attached and were overcooked. The sour cream looked old and yellowed(my wife tried it and stopped immediately for fear of food poisoning). Finally, the chips and salsa that came first. These chips were the standard ‘homemade’ chips from this type of establishment but the salsa was brown, really salty and tasted old. The green dip was like a mix of guacamole and salsa Verde but was neither the right color or consistentcy of either. It was milk thin and very spicy. Both dips were overly salty. I really hope this review helps. There are a few good Mexican joints in saint Charles and this isn’t one of them. Try El Agave on 3rd Street or La Caretta down on harvester.

Probably the best al pastor taco I have ever had. Great horchata and my friends raved about the chicken. I’m from out of town and I will definitely make it back to El Pueblito next time I’m around… which might be sooner than later after eating here!!! –1 star for unorganized staff and kitchen.

This place was a Gem from the first moment we walked through the door and smelled the beautiful Mexican food. The refried bean were absolutely perfect and made me feel good deep in my soul. The chicken enchiladas were very good slight spicy with a tangy green salsa. And was garnished nicely with lettuce avocado and Mexican cheese. The carne asada tostada was fantastic. the steak was Caramelized beautiful with lots of crunchy little bites, and was also garnished beautifully. The el pastor taco had a nice ratio of meat to fat and was cooked well. However the seasoning or marinade had a slight sweet taste to it that I didn’t love. The guacamole was fresh and the chips were nice and salty. Waitress was very friendly but was on the slow side. The restaurant itself had a authentic charm to it. However, was slightly on the unclean side.

walked into this place with my friend for the first time to try for lunch! The lady behind the order window didn’t acknowledge us for 5 minuets while we stood there. Did not say hello, or take a seat, nothing! There was a loud Mexican soap opera on that she was watching and didn’t care to notice us. We finally decided to seat ourselves and sat there another 5 minuets. I finally walked up and grabbed 2 menus and went and sat back down. 5 minuets later the girl finally comes over,(didn’t smile once) and asked really annoyed what we want to drink. I just got a water and there wasn’t even ice in it! Food came, it was ok tasting except my shrimp had the tails still on and nothing came with my fajitas! No beans, sour cream, or anything to garnish the fajitas with. After we were done eating we waited about 15 minuets to get a to-go box. She walked by about 4 times and never looked at us or asked how we were. I finally had to flag her down and ask for a box. We were the only people in the restaurant! So mad! Plus for the amount of food I got it was not worth 15 $. Have never been so upset leaving a restaurant.

The first time I was here, it took a long time to get a table even though there was only one other party in the restaurant, granted it was a large party of about 8 or so with only one server on the floor so it was understandable. Table was dirty, condiment bottles were dirty, crusty and empty, and we didn’t get waters for 5 minutes and menus for probably another 5 minutes. Wasn’t super impressed by the food, I had a chicken burrito with the absolute minimal amount of chicken in it for it to be able to pass as a chicken burrito. My boyfriend and I decided to come back a few weeks later. When I went to the bathroom, it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in at least 4 – 5 days, maybe longer depending on how business is. Piss and pubes all over the toilet seat, piss all over the floor, the trash can was completely full and had toilet paper with poop on it filling over the top. Hot water was nonexistent and there weren’t any paper towels, so I can only hope they have a different sink in this building. Two stars because it’s edible food with an authentic feel to it, even though there’s only a handful of food options to choose from. It was nice to venture out from the typical Mexican menu that’s offered everywhere, but I’ll be going to El Maguey next time.

Authentic Mexican Restaurant/Dive for your dining pleasure. This is the only true Mexican food I have found in the St. Louis area so far. Others try, but they come up just a little bit short. This place does not. They’ve hit the mark. Don’t be afraid to order«off-menu» either. If you have a favorite Mexican dish, this place probably can and will make it for you. The Chorizo con Huevos with onions and cheese is awesome for breakfast. I do wish they would make Posóle… The request is in. :) On the down side… They lose 2 stars for filthy, dirty washrooms. Dirty toilet and sink, no soap to wash with, and no towels to dry with.

Great tacos and salsa. Authentic is an understatement. I tried four tacos, and the chicken was my favorite. However, they were all great. I love the fact that it is in St. Charles.

Food was ok. Bad service and sneaking pricing. I was told that the burrito had rice and beans in it. I asked for the rice and beans to be placed outside the burrito on the plate. When the burrito was brought to the table there were no rice and beans. I asked for the rice and beans and the waitress said that she would bring some out– they never arrived until the end of I was done eating. Got the bill and they charged me for rice and beans.

Now this is what I’ve been looking for in STL. A complete dive authentic heart and soul Mexican joint, I asked for water with no ice and by God it came straight out of the tap I love it. I haven’t even had my meal yet at time of writing and I know it’s good, it’s going to put El Maguey to shame. Not one non-Mexican person is in here right now and that’s an awesome sign. Low key, unassuming awesomeness fills this place with me and the 9 others gracing its presence. The table salsa is spicy as hell and the floor fan propped up on the booth is exciting. Univision on the TV speaks volumes and the wires protruding from the suspended ceiling cements the authenticity. God bless America.

Been blessed to travel all over and this is by far the best Mexican food in Missouri!!! Real AUTHENTICFOOD!!! Real street tacos Real burritos Real tortas Real salsa All homemade Grandma in the kitchen cooking up a storm, family owned and everything made to order. Been here countless times and nothing ever disappoints here. It was so nice that I got my coworkers hooked to this place. They even got me hooked on Horchata and I use to hate it. Their carne asada tacos are my favorite. Their chicken ones are really good as well BUT, it’s shredded chicken, I prefer small cut up pieces of chicken. The service can be a little slow but be patient, it’s definitely worth the wait. Their quesadilla is the best I’ve ever had anywhere!!! Ivey lost when I got here because literally everything here is AMAZING!!! Sorry I know all caps can get annoying but this place is by far one of the best places in all of St. Louis County period!

I got 2 Pork Tacos and 1 Beef Taco. They were OK, but I thought the meat was a little overcooked and chewy. The chips were really good the Salsa was a little too hot for my taste. I don’t generally like authentic mexican food, I mostly like«street tacos» so that may determine whether my opinion counts for anything. I don’t think I will be back here.

Damn fine! I will most certainly be back and I’ll be bringing friends. I am a sucker for a torta. I have been ever since teaching at Benito Juarez HS on Chicago’s near south side back in the early 90s. In those days, I used to look for the little hole-in-the-wall places that didn’t even have a sign on them for the best tortas. This place isn’t quite that«quaint» but it is close enough. Walk in and all you hear is Spanish: from the staff, the customers and even the TV. Order from a bilingual menu and you’re off and running. I went for a chicken torta and asked them to add a little chorizo. I wanted a diet soda but they were out so I had a Jarrito’s orange instead. The first sip brought back a memory of being a little kid traveling around Mexico with my parents — great sensory memory that I wasn’t expecting on an average work day. Sandwich arrived and it was just about perfect. Large, thick slices of perfectly ripe avocado plus shredded lettuce, slivered onions and juicy tomatoes were the vegetable component. A moist and juicy shredded chicken was underneath along with a couple of tablespoons of chorizo since a little bit of that stuff goes a long way. Small amount of mayo on the slightly charred bread and the sandwich was EXACTLY what I wanted for lunch. Total bill was about $ 7 so no complaints there either.

If you find yourself in St. Charles, MO which I did and You want some really cheap decent very Authentic Mexican Food this is a great spot! They made me a Vegan Bean Burrito which was quite good, and they bring out 3 different salsa’s for your chips! Now they will charge you more for extra chips, but with 3 bowls of salsa and the price being .50 cents a basket keeping bringing them please! They do close kinda early, they were trying to kinda push us out by 8pmish. But it was great!
