So disappointed tonight. I was running errand, called two times — no answer. So. Called their east side restaurant and they said they were crazy busy, and to keep trying. I did. They told me one hour 20 min for a take out order. I was really wanting their sushi, so I said. Ok. I showed up 15 min early, to my surprise it was ready. Got home — all of a two min. Drive to open COLD food, and the sushi wasn’t good either. I show up 15 min early and that’s what I got. After all that wait. Truly disappointed– guess. Shame on me I should have passed. 23 $ for a really bad take out meal… Sad, … And still hungry. Ugh

It has been 3 years since my last review. We still LOVE Shimas !!! There is no better sushi anywhere. I met another fan of Shimas who had lived in Japan for three years. Other than his time there, he said this was the second best sushi he had ever had !!! To those who complain that wait time is long … Please take time to appreciate the care that goes in to each roll. There are 3 – 4 chefs making rolls without looking up to take a breath … You will always be treated with kindness !!!

Very good, everything very fresh and definitely house made. The Crab Rangoon had-wait for it-CRAB and were like little egg rolls. The best! Liked the mushroom soup better than the miso and our service in the three times has been a bit unpredictable. But it is by far the best sushi in the area…

The people at Shima’s are great! The food is great! Like the food is awesome!!! I love to eat there, but you must make sure you are not in a rush. Everyone here is laid back, there is not much sense of urgency, which is fine when you are not in a hurry. Careful with take out, if they say 20 minutes, they mean it. Food hints: the ginger salad is good(I’ve had better, but I like the cucumber touch), the spicy sauce for the rolls is excellent(order any maki roll spicy) and get soy paper, especially if you have kids. Soy paper is so much easier to chew than seaweed, I’m convinced this is why my son loves rolls. Regardless, the food is worth it and the Shima family is wonderful. I hope they are there for a long, long time.

Great food but terrible service. Owner asked if I wanted any soup. I said no but asked to get a refill on iced tea and she responded that she asked if I wanted soup and never brought refill. I caught the girl who was bussing tables who brought the almost empty pitcher and filled my iced tea glass up to about 1⁄3 level. She did bring me a glass of water finally. It took the 3 of us about 90 minutes to have dinner. Food was excellent but management staff could use attitude adjustment. Kind of expensive to be poorly treated.

My favorite sushi place without a doubt. I tend to arrive during lunch hours which is my favorite time to go. The servers and chefs are very open to talking about their menu(since my sushi knowledge is not the best) and always make sure that what I ordered is alto my liking. Presentation and flavors are top notch, always with the freshest ingredients. Besides rolls my favorite dish is «Shimas Salad», fresh avocados, fried calamari and shrimp, how is that not amazing?! They don’t compromise quality by rushing dishes to the tables either, each dish is carefully prepared, more so than other dine in restaurants. So visit for a fun, relaxing experience and actually enjoy your food.

Best local sushi anyone can ask for. Hospitality is amazing, Shima and his team are fantastic. Not much to say but if you want a good meal and good company, this is the place.(Gets busy, quality food is worth the wait!)

1st visit there tonight. The sushi was good… when we finally got it. We waited over an hour from when we ordered for our sushi to come. Once it did, it came out one roll at a time. AND the rolls were small! 1st time I have ever left a sushi restaurant still hungry. One server was very nice and helpful(and agreed the wait was ridiculous) and another server was very abrupt but good. They were not that busy that they were so behind, lots of empty tables.

Second visit to Shima’s last night, with friends and their kids. It was an okay night, although the food for our table of 6 arrived one dish at a time and it took forever to get through everything. I figured since we were eating on a gift card I received, we’d get a couple of starters, so we got the edamame(cooked PERFECT!), the beef and asparagus(cut into little sushi-sized pieces?), and Christine’s Tower(GREATSAUCE! Not too sure why they couldn’t take the time to dice up the fish a bit more to make it easy to share on the table)… Our friend got Combo #1 with chicken. It looked pretty bland, and way too saucy. Lots of boxes, lots of it looking the same. Friend’s spouse for a couple rolls — he loves ‘em. So do the kids. One kid got some kind of kid’s sushi with a bunch of egg custard they didn’t like and small tuna rolls. Not overly impressive(to me, at least — kid went for the crab stix on everyone else’s plate). Wife and I got the Sashimi Combination. Lots of fish, mostly good. The miso soup is okay, but the mushroom soup is EXCELLENT! Not really interested in the white rice — I think it was sushi(sticky) rice, or the egg rools(little), but at least it was there to nibble on while we waited for the sashimi. And wait we did. At least 45 minutes, if not an hour to get our entrée. Even then, it came out one dish at a time. Overall, preparation was good, presentation was just okay, and delivery to the table was poor. Prices are a little high, but I don’t see how you stay in business in a small place like this without putting a premium on your prices. I just think there are comparable places with better overall experiences in the area. So I’d recommend this place, and we know many neighbors who absolutely LOVE this place — and most of them have kids. We spent two hours here at dinner, and the two wiggleworm kids actually made it all the way through dinner without a meltdown. Nice!

Nowhere else I’ve ever been for Sushi is even a quarter as good as Shima’s sushi, not to mention the owner Shima is one of the most wonderful people I every met. I have been going to his restaurants for years, first was Jurin best Japanese Steak house ever and now this. I cannot get enough. The prices are right and the sushi is outstanding. LOVE…

Very poor service at new restaurant at Main St location! There were not a lot of people at lunch time and yet forgot about our order! When food finally arrives(Shrimp Tempura and an unidentified«crab rangoon»), they were very greasy! Yes, I’m a Foodie and know how food should look and taste. I asked for plain green hot tea but served Genmaicha(green tea with roasted burnt rice). I know Genmaicha is better for you but don’t care for the burnt rice taste and its not what I ordered! The waitress has the audacity to call me out and insisted that its a plain green tea and later acknowledged that it is Genmaicha. According to her, they use Genmaicha because it’s cheaper! Beware of the quality of their fishes! I will not recommend to all my families and friends.

They have a second location on Main St. In St Charles. The service was great and the food fantastic. They have a white sauce to put on the fried rice, wow, added more flavor then I expected. Their sushi is outstanding. I’ve only had sushi once before, but this place knocked it out of the park. Will definitely go back again. Our server was energetic and very friendly, food came out at a great pace where our table was not overflowing with food. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Perhaps if you lived in this quaint area this maybe a local gem. But with other options the non existent service, servers who were unfamiliar with the cuisine and could only speak Spanish would be a huge deterrent to me. Prices were reasonable, huge menu with Japanese, Chinese, and other Asian selections. Had to ask for wasabi(really!) for the sushi. It and the pickled ginger were brought out in containers. My salmon hand roll was good, soba and tempura fair. Never seen green, red pepper tempura before… Ate the accompanying 1 shrimp tempura and left the rest. Colleague ordered fried rice and 1 of the many fried roll options. Lots of high school kids eating in groups, guess it is that type of affluent neighborhood. Too many sushi roll options with cream cheese and fake crab to be on my return to list.

Shima’s is a great sushi restaurant. Fresh, beautiful and flavorful food. Truly outstanding sushi and Shima is a friendly owner that keeps the quality of the food to exceed expectations. It’s great having a sushi place that has this kind of quality. I love eating here or taking food home. If you haven’t been to this place, you’re missing out.

I love Shima’s; the quality of their sushi is unrivaled and Shima always takes care of his customers. The service here can be REALLY slow though, I’ve spent a couple of hours at a time waiting for food on weekends and other occasions when they have more than five tables filled.

Great place to eat. I have dined there more than many time for lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. Mr. Shima is always cheerful and welcoming. The Sushi is, …‘delicate’ is the best word I would use to describe the texture, flavor. I would highly recommend Shima’s Restaurant.

I like to tell myself that I have high standards when it comes to sushi and this place delivered. Sushi has to be made with the finest ingredients and at just the right time and Mr. Shima does both. The sushi is fantastic. I highly recommend skipping every sushi place that may be on your list and go straight here. You will not be disappointed. Food is amazing; they have an extensive menu. Service is very good(reviews that had slow or bad service — when they get very busy that may happen, but 95% of the time service will be good). You will not be disappointed when you dine here.
