Coming here is like taking a step back in time! There is a wonderful atmosphere and it is kept very clean. The food is very good, and the Tastee Freez ice cream was very good as well. The staff was helpful and courteous. I will definitely make this a regular stop from now on.

It’s so so. Gotta really nasty smell when I walked in. Might come from dirty water used on the floor. Tables outside are not wiped down. Even though today was a beautiful day. Very good flavored Rootbeer float. Not enough ice cream. I originally wanted a shake. Looked for the flavors and couldn’t see them. So I asked. The cash register person just pointed to the board(ten feet away and the one I had scanned) and said the flavors are on the board. Not much help. The reason I went with the float.

Awful! I was over charged, which was corrected. They forgot my fry order, which they rushed out to my car. My dogs were cold. The fries were mushy and cold too. Service and food quality were sub-par. Never again.

I’ve heard many a baby boomer talk about good times at places called Tastee Freeze. Tastee Freeze’s aren’t as common as they used to be and I never knew exactly what a tastee freeze was when I was younger as I hadn’t ever been to one. As time has gone on and I’ve become more familiar with the area I’ve spotted quite a few Tastee Freeze’s in the area and I felt it was time to stop at one. This Tastee Freeze is a combination Tastee Freez/Scooby’s Hot Dogs located off of Main Street in Saint Charles. In stopping by I decided to try the hot dog. The hot dog I received came on a soft poppy seed bun. The red hot itself was skinless and had a nice flavor. The pickle included on this dog was a bit thicker than it should be to get a good flavor balance, the application of mustard and relish was fine. The tomato chunks were a bit thick and wetter than I would prefer, there was noticeable celery salt on the dog. The sport peppers weren’t too hot and the onion was well cut and applied nicely. Overall this was an average Chicago style hot dog. I’m not sure if all Tastee Freeze’s operate with their own menu, this place was probably more like Scooby’s in West Chicago than any other restaurant. It’s worth checking out for certain if you happen to be in the area, but it’s not worth going out of your way to visit.

We used to love this place. So for Christmas 2011, I wanted to give my husband a $ 10 gift certificate for the treats he enjoys so much. The woman who sold them to me said she couldn’t give me an individual certificate for $ 10, but that I could buy ten $ 1 certificates. And that was fine. Today, my husband stopped in to buy a shake for $ 3.06, and he presented three of the $ 1 certificates. The gal behind the counter had no idea what they were, so she called out another employee(Carlos) who looked at them and refused to honor their use toward the shake, saying«Oh, no, you can only use one certificate at a time.» What? We’ve already paid ten dollars to Tastee Freez(my husband even had the $ 10 receipt with him); why can we only get back one dollar’s worth at a time? This is ridiculous. We’ve found the phone number for the corporate office and will be contacting them.

Super cute little place! Couldn’t find it on Unilocal at first, because the sign says Scooby’s, but inside you see it’s also a Tastee Freeze. Great fast food — burgers, hot dogs, tamales, pizza puffs ~ all at good low prices(hard to find low prices in downtown St. Charles). Grilled cheese isn’t on the menu, but they make it for me on a burger bun, yum! They also have outdoor seating and clean bathrooms.

Step in and it’s like you’re in the set of Happy Days! Great little place to grab a quick bite and have a frozen treat! You get the best of two worlds: Half Scooby’s and Half Tastee Freeze! Plus, it’s cheap! Once, their daily deal was a 40+ oz milk shake for $ 2. WHAAA? Insane. Actually, insanely awesome! I had great childhood memories here and I’m happy it’s back up and running with new owners! :)
