Excellent. Service great… food great. The almond french toast awesome. Hubby’s Loco moco excellent. An awesome place. The only minor downer is the parking situation not a big thing but the lot is on the smaller side as parking lots go.

We just happen to live right around the corner from Tubby’s, so we eat there frequently. If you are looking for an old fashioned greasy spoon diner, Tubby’s is the place to go. While the current owner hasn’t been there as long as the diner has, the diner itself is a historic stop on the iconic Route 66. Tubby’s features fresh made foods, generous portions and really reasonable pricing. When you hear people say«natural cut fries» you can usually assume they were precut by the supplier, but at Tubby’s, they cut them on site and fry them to perfection. The food is good, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is quite nice. They’ve done some upgrades to the tables and booths, so all the rough edges have been taken care of. I highly recommend you try them out. I personally recommend the cod dinner, it’s what I usually get when I go in. It’s really, really good.

Awesome place! The service was great and the food was phenomenal! Burgers are hand packed. Fries are hand cut. And The grilled chicken salad was the best diner salad I’ve ever had!

I can’t believe the good reviews? I will say I only went there one time and the food was not very good. The staff was really nice but food was not good. The bacon wasn’t cooked it looked as it was boiled in water then served. The biscuit was not cooked very doughy. The hash browns are dried out of a box. I love home owne little dives and I was very disappointed that the food was bad, I was really hoping for better. I might try it again but I doubt it. I gave it two stars because of sever.

The food was good and reasonable priced. The waitress was friendly and attentive. They have homemade jalepeno ketchup. Only downside is that it’s messy meaning printer and paperwork sitting out on a table, hanging cords, paint needs touched up, and no place to store paper cups and take out containers. Very casual.

4 Stars because nothing is perfect! We ate breakfast at Tubby’s because of a review in 417 Magazine and it was spot on! We had the Pecan Crusted French toast & it was all the magazine article said it was. NOSYRUP needed here, it is that good. Tubby’s in located on old Rt. 66 or College St. west of downtown Springfield, not a place most would stop at but if you don’t you will miss some great food. The service was great, friendly and our coffee cups never ran dry. The food was served just as ordered and hot from the grill. We would recommend Tubby’s and plan on going back for lunch and/or dinner soon. BTW another table ordered bananna topped pancakes that looked delicious also. Maybe next time. Enjoyed Tubby’s.

Tubby’s Diner is a diner located on historic Route 66 a short distance west of Springfield, Missouri’s downtown square. They have been closed for seven months due to some problems with their kitchen, and we tried them shortly after they re-opened; with high expectations. The building is old. The décor is rustic. The bathroom is shared with employees and right next to the kitchen. They having a dining counter as well as booths and tables. If it were 1973, you’d feel right at home here. On the plus side, because Tubby’s is clearly not upscale, you can expect good value for money. If you are looking for hidden gems from them outside standard café fare, you’re not going to find it. They do have breakfast all day, and a couple of house breakfast specialties: almond-crusted French toast drizzled with a raspberry sauce, and Eggs-in-the-Hole, which are eggs cooked how you want them stuffed into the middle of French toast. We started by ordering the fried mushroom appetizer, and were told their mushrooms were«bad» because they had«not been stored properly.» A little apprehensive, we asked for the onion rings instead. When they came out, they were hot and freshly made, but dripping with oil. A couple minutes to let them drain would have made them much better, but the flavor was good and they were reasonably crispy despite the oil overload. We originally went in looking to try the Fish ‘n Fries, but were told they would not be getting their fish until the next day. Disappointed, we moved on. I ordered another breakfast specialty, the banana caramel pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs. My girlfriend ordered the aforementioned almond-crusted French toast, and we ordered the Philly cheese steak to share. She also got a $ 0.99 biscuit with gravy, which was huge, covered in gravy and well worth the $ 0.99 she paid for it. I consider myself something of a Philly cheese steak snob, and I found theirs average at best. For those who like the Phillies that are generally available in the Springfield area, they’ll find it better than average. The French fries that came with it were well fried, crispy, flavorful and on the whole much better than the sandwich. The pancakes were a pair, both the size of the entire dinner plate on which they were served, drizzled with caramel, stuffed with walnuts and covered in banana slices. I found them sweet, savory, nutty, and utterly delicious. The French toast was also quite good, though not as flavorful as it could have been for a signature meal. Overall, the food ranged from average to very good, with the pancakes being a big standout. I can recommend them with no reservations. The best part was the prices. Tubby’s is very inexpensive. We had three entrees, two extra sides and an appetizer for about $ 30, and you can eat there much more frugally than that. Their 1/3-pound hamburgers are $ 4.99 and you can find dinner portions and huge, hearty breakfast meals for about the same price or slightly more. Our server was new, moderately inept, and indifferent to our needs most of our stay. One of the owners was around to fill in where she fell short. He was friendly and engaging, but did not offer any discounts or real apologies for their«bad» mushrooms or food that was out of stock. We’ve come to expect the decline in service and the«you get what you get» attitude of restaurants, and in that we were not disappointed. Since the restaurant is newly opened again after a long hiatus, I’m willing to cut them some slack and try them another time to see if things improve. There are clearly some worthwhile food items, and the prices are hard to beat. It is a local diner, after all, and we didn’t get any more or any less than that designation implies.
