Adoption Center that has a huge inventory of cats and some dogs. Every now and then they also have birds and rodents as well. They do not accept relinquished pets but can refer you to other animal sheltering resources in the area. Staff is very friendly and helpful and prices are very reasonable
Adoption fees: Adult Cats over 5 months are $ 90 and Kittens under 5 months are $ 150. Pitbull type Dogs are $ 175, Adult non-​pitbull type are $ 250, and Puppies under 5 months are $ 300. All dogs and cats have received all vaccinations appropriate to their age, are spayed/​neutered and have a microchip implant.

I really, really don’t know why I still try coming here. I’ve tried to adopt an animal literally 3 or 4 times. I just stood at the counter (after signing my name) for almost 20 minutes — waiting for someone to acknowledge me, ask if I needed help. There were 3 people behind the kiosk. None of which looked at me, let alone acknowledged me.
This happens constantly. Trying to ask the staff if you can speak to them is like venturing into Mordor with the Ring.
I won’t be coming back. You’ve lost my business.

Disclosure, I work at TJO. I have 3 animals that I adopted from TJO and they are awesome. Is the shelter short staffed — yes. Do the employees work super hard — yes. Are the animals treated fabulously — yes. TJO is funded by the city (ie. serious budgetary restraints). However, even with major limitations animals receive amazing care. I am constantly astonished by the amazing work we are able to do to help the homeless animals in our community!

I have gotten two of my rescues there. They have been amazing. They put you in a room to see how the animal responds to you. Just to make sure you are the right fit. After all we don’t chose them. They chose us. My first rescue is my baby he’s perfect. I decided to add and give him a companion. Again he was perfect. Definitely recommend tjo.

Apparent no one answers the phone over there. I called over a dozen times today about a specific dog on their website that looked like it could be our dog’s litter mate. No one answered the phone. No one checked the messages (inbox was full after half an hour and remained full the rest of the afternoon). And no one returned my call. The dog I was interested in is now off their site. If my BF wasn’t out of town for work today, I would have gone in, but they want to see all family members before they will even talk to you. Very disappointed.

I love the TJO shelter! The staff and volunteers are always very busy on days when the shelter is open to the public so you may have to wait a bit for your turn but there is not much anyone can do about that. All of the animals are rigorously evaluated before being put up for adoption and are very well cared for while at the shelter. You should definitely look into TJO for adoption!

Sadly, the cats and dogs here are stuck dealing with rude and pushy staff.
When I went to visit, I wanted to see specific animals, but they kept bringing me pets that they «thought» I would like. The area supervisor told me she would NOT show me a cat I wanted to see, because that cat would not work with my cats (even though the cat was
I asked for a specific sex… they brought me another. Asked for a specific animal… they brought me a different one with the explanation that the other ones would not be «what I wanted» or «what would work for me.»
This was after trying to catch someone to help me for about 20 minutes.
I generally don’t complain about things like this (I am in a customer service industry, so I get occasional issues)… but, it was disquieting.
If it wasn’t about the animals, I would say go elsewhere. Just be prepared to deal with this kind of problem when you go.
