I put this under Arts & Entertainment because there does not seem to be a museum category on Unilocal. This is not exactly a museum anyway. Inside of St. Johns Hospital there is an astoundingly gorgeous, large chapel with amazing artwork done by European painters and stone masons and carpenters many years ago. I’m not Catholic but this place is special to me because it is quietly magnificent. There was an article in the News-Leader one time that explained how long the artists stayed in Springfield to make the magnificent chapel or church. That happened many years ago. The stones and materials were, in some cases, brought in from other countries. The ceiling is spectacular. The Stations of the Cross on the walls are captivating. When our kids were small, we once walk them around the room and explained which Bible story each panel depicted. It is a quiet and reflective place. It’s a welcome respite from traditional architecture.
