This is a small museum. But its interesting and engaging enough for kids and adults alike. Its also one of 4 in the square, so buy the group ticket and visit them all, taking breaks in the park in the middle, where you will see Dr Seuss’ cartoons life size in sculpture. The guard suggested I start at the bottom and work my way up, so I did. The second floor was to me the most interesting, its interactive. I love that. I would not come here as a destination, but I would come to all four on the square as a destination without hesitation. Well worth the time and money.

Attention non-springfield residences. The local add that shows a $ 3.00 admission to the planetarium is NOT true and will NOT be honoured. One must purchase a $ 15.00 admission first and then can pay $ 3.00 to get into the planetarium. Please be aware of this inconvenience as it certainly ruined my afternoon plans.

This science museum is small but packed with lots of stuffs. If this is your first time visiting, I suggest you get the whole package so you can visit other adjacent museums including two art museums and a Springfield historical museum. Once you are inside science museum, it’s highly recommended to start touring from the basement and moving upward to first and second floors. In the basement, there are fishes and display of New England stuffed small animals. First floor has Native Indian exhibit, dinosaurs, and larger size animals. Second floor has science related showcase and interactive exhibits. Then at the end stop by science museum store on first floor. If you have kids, stop by Museum of Springfield History because it has a section where kids can interact and hangout. I find this kid section a bit out of place. It makes more sense if it’s inside science museum instead. But because space is limited inside science museum, I can see why it’s inside historical museum instead. Another somewhat kids friendly area is George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. There’s a small section there where kids can do stuffs. While you are moving between museums, Dr Seuss sculpture garden will not be missed. This science museum is even though small, it has a lot to offer. They did a nice job in including as much stuffs as can they fit in and yet nicely arranged. It’s worth stopping by if you haven’t seen it yet.
