If driving along I70 and want to stop for a non-chain restaurant meal, this is a good choice. Barbecue is done well, homey feel to the place. You order at a counter and pick your food up yourself when called. Toddler loved the mac n cheese and green beans. Gluten free isn’t something they were overly familiar with, but I had the pulled chicken and both the spicy and sweet sauces and it was fine.

Very good pulled pork. The brisket was ok seemed more like a roast. Green beans were very good

We stopped here while traveling and I would have to say it was barely ok. The meat was dry and didn’t have much flavor. The sauces were good but you had to smother your meat to make it decent. Great fries and green beans. We wouldn’t eat here again.

OK food. Service subpar: the servers were having a loud conversation behind the counter where you order and pick up your food. I ordered the catfish and expected better taste, hush puppies were bland, baked beans had green peppers which gave them an odd flavor, and the mac and cheese was by far the best part of the meal.

I stopped in for the first time for carryout. The cashier was very pleasant and helpful. I ordered half slab ribs with mac & cheese and scalloped potatoes. Two beef brisket sandwiches. Two sweet teas. The BBQ sauce is to die for! The brisket was tender. The ribs fell off the bone. The sides were cheesy and filling. The sweet tea is the best in town, especially with lemon. I will be a repeat customer! Best BBQ in Springfield

Our smoked turkey sandwich and brisket sandwich was dry and cold. They only included one thing of BBQ sauce. They took 20 minutes to put together a simple side salad. After all that, they forgot the salad dressing. Customer service was poor. Viewed clerk saying«we will bring it out» then customer had to do it herself. Save your money and time by going somewhere else.

Seriously? Half these reviewers wouldn’t know good bbq if they tripped over it. «Bad service»? It’s friggin self serve — blame yourself dude! This is good stuff. Anybody can do pulled pork, so I don’t even consider those comments. The brisket is really good. And they actually have it! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven to city bbq only to be greeted with the«sorry, no brisket» sign. «Have some nice pulled pork.» No thanks. I’ll take this place any time. And the side dishes are man sized! And good too! Keep city bbq. This place rocks!

This is really excellent bbq especially for Ohio. We make a point of stopping here every time we drive back to Dayton from Columbus. Pulled pork is very flavorful scalloped corn is delicious– the style I really like. Green beans are excellent, fresh fries also excellent. Mac and cheese isn’t my style but my dad loved it. He also loved his bone out rib sandwich it looked really tasty but he ate it all before I could taste it! Only thing I can complain about is that I wish they had a mustard style bbq sauce but that’s it!

We stopped in right at closing, and the people there were absolutely great. We were going to get our food to go, but they insisted that we stay, take our time and eat. The food was great and the sauce selection was interesting. My wife and I had a double beef brisket with cole slaw and baked beans. The brisket was tender and juice, great dark bark and beautiful pink smoke ring. I tried with each one of their sauces, I liked the hot the best. The cole slaw was crisp and tasty, considering the hour I was overly impressed. I got a hint of mustard in the dressing, very cool. The beans has a hint of the BBQ sauce, nice touch. My daughter got the ribs and brisket combo and destroyed it. The ribs were a bit TOO tender for my taste, but that is just me. They are classic smoke house fall off the bone tender. If you are in the area, give them a shot. Worth the stop.

Sandwiches were good. Wings were excellent. Most of what we wanted to order was not available with no substitutes offered. Delivery came fairly quickly in the snow although the driver was a little rude.

Good in a «driving on I-70 from Columbus to Indianapolis — I’m hungry — where should we eat?» sort of way. Fine. Decent. Pretty good. But not better. If I measure Rudy’s against all the GREAT barbecue joints we frequent, then this is 3 stars, maybe 3 ½ stars if I arrived really really hungry after a too long drive. Meat was ok. Sides were ok. Prices are fine. But I have no earthly idea how some other Elites rated this 5 stars, because it’s not even close…

Edible. But if you wanted just edible, you should really just grab McDonald’s up the street and save yourself a lot of money. I get frustrated when I get my food, it’s completely below average, and they still have my money. There is this emotional need to balance the situation out and that’s where these reviews come in. The owners are probably really nice. This is not personal, but I feel the need to warn others not to go here. It is pricey for BBQ, and the food is very forgettable(except for the ROCK hard hush puppies, I’ll never forget the sound they made when you tap them on the coffee table. Seriously the dog barked because he thought someone was at the door.) The sandwhich was bland and small. It didn’t really taste smoked. The sides were not good, but the Mac and cheese was kinda good. It was average, creamy, and nothing really wrong with it. While I was waiting on the food, they were getting frozen breaded wings from a food company out of the freezer to fill an order. You are a smokehouse! Smoked wings are amazing! They even reheat well. BBQ is suppose to be personal. American Holds her BBQ places in high regard, with a little sanctity. Rudy’s at this price point and quality gives American BBQ a bad name. Absent some back-to-the-heart-and-soul makeover of this place, I don’t need to go back. And if you’re reading this, you’ve been warned. To the owners: why do you want to own a barbecue place? People own restaurants to make money, and that’s fine. But people own BBQ places because they love what they do and they are good at it.

My goodness! What a great find! Excellent food. Perfect portions. We had brisket and bone-out ribs. Divine! Scalloped corn and pintos were to die for! Highly recommended. A great value for the money. Not sure how people can go to the McDonalds next door when this gem is so awesome.

I would come back but it wasn’t memorable enough to crave anything in particular. My husband liked the green beans but I thought they were salty and the texture was too soft for me. My favorite was the wings. I liked the sauce. But like I said, nothing incredibly memorable. Service was good and the food was ready quickly.

Was guided to this establishment by my husband’s coworker. On our way to Columbus we decided to check it out. Not only was it easy to find but had good parking. Not sure what to get I got the boneless rib sandwich, corn casserole and green beans. Ok, so the meal was fantastic, I was pleasantly surprised. My husband said his meal had no flaws. And there tea was the best ive had in a long while. Now this may sound silly but from a ladies point of view the tables accommodated ones ability to cross her legs under the table! All in all a stellar meal at a modest price.

This is a nice place to stop for dinner on the road. I enjoyed my pulled pork bbq sandwich and my husband liked his catfish sandwich. If you’re checking in on your phone through Unilocal, you get a free cookie — woo hoo! This was a delicious surprise. The mac and cheese is nothing to write home about — tasted very processed to me. The cornbread was decent. I loved the bbq sauce which is the most important item to review, right? So, skip the McDonald’s and head to Rudy’s!

I’ve been here twice. Both times… good! A typical BBQ joint. Kind’ve pricey for average BBQ. Both times I had the two meat combo. Comes with two sides. They give you store bough buns to make a sandwich. Would be much better with Texas toast or something! The sauce bottles at the tables were kind’ve sticky though and not very full of sauce. City BBQ is just as good… if not better. I’d come back here… but wouldn’t make a special trip to do so. I’d like to try the wings or the fish! May have either of those next time.

Stopped here traveling on I-70 for lunch. I had ½ slab ribs and the others in my group had beef brisket. Both were excellent. I didn’t care for the baked beans, but the others in my group liked it. Restaurant service was quick and friendly. The restaurant also was decorated appropriately for BBQ. Nice stop and goof break from the chain restaurants.
