Kangchon is the place to go if you want Korean food but are too far away from Centreville or Annandale(story of my life). I’ve been a few times, and it hasn’t been too crowded which meant that we got to choose our seating and that our food came out pretty fast. Pluses: — Korean food in a Korean food desert(everything is relative y’all) — Food comes out quickly — Clearly a mom and pop shop Minuses: — It’s not gourmet Korean food, but it is good comfort food

I go to this place at least once a week. Love this place. It’s a small place but very cozy. The owner is very welcoming and their serving is always impeccable. Their Cod fish stew and jjamppong is heavenly and it’s coming from an avid Korean food fan who have been to a lot of Korean restaurants.

I’ve been here multiple times over the past few years, and I must say I’m a fan. The food is always delicious and hot when it comes out, and the portions are extremely generous — I don’t think I’ve ever finished my entrée any time I’ve come. The prices are reasonable, and while the selection isn’t very large, I find that it often whets my appetite when I’m craving Korean food and don’t feel like driving all the way to Annandale. It’s great to have such a good Korean restaurant in Springfield! The proximity is definitely convenient when it comes to driving. The service could be a bit more attentive and better in general, but I attribute it to the difficulty in communication(I believe the waitresses don’t speak much English, as they seem to converse more with the Korean customers). Despite this, though, I do love Kang Chon! Would recommend.

This is close to where I live, when I want jjajangmyun or jjamppong. Always good portion for the price. Not everything on the menu is great, but those two dishes are usually on point and cheap.

We ordered two samkyulsal, pork belly. This was our first visit here and we were very impressed by how welcoming the owner was. We got extra bean stew for free! The owner grilled the samkyulsal for our table. I would highly recommend this place to try pork belly.

What a find! Cozy, friendly place with delicious Korean food close to home. Tasty banchan, great kimchee pancake, the pork dupbap was wonderful and HOT. Reasonably priced, too.

This has been our family’s go-to Korean-Chinese restaurant for years. Their jjamppong and jjajangmyun are the best in the northern VA area — even better than options in Annandale! We also get their spicy tangsuyook which is bomb. Perfect amount of spicy and crispy! Service is attentive and helpful. If you can look past their location(outdated strip mall), it’s definitely worth a stop.

Hovering between 3 – 4 stars, Kang Chon is a hole-in-the-wall serving Korean classics and specializing in Korean-Chinese options including jajangmyeon, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk. Having made 4 visits(2 for takeout, 2 dining in), I feel like I have a firm grasp on their quality and consistency. Ambience: the interior is a bit dated and it’s tucked away in a strip mall with various other ethnic eateries/grocery stores so less of a place to go on a first date, but more of a 4th/5th date when you don’t feel like dressing up and you just want to share a warm meal on a rainy day or dining incognito in the penumbra of the limelight. Service: friendly and unobstrusive, very impressed with the care they take in preparing items for takeout service since wet and dry items were neatly partitioned to minimize transport spillage and they made sure to not omit any small accoutrements present during dining in from the ban chan to the danmuji(pickled radishes). Price: food court prices(a good thing) and credit card friendly, excellent portions and value to account for any shortcomings in quality(see below) Quality: As a takeout option in the Springfield area, I would rate it 4 – 4.5 stars since you could easily do a lot worse and would pay significantly higher prices for tastier options. With unique Korean-Chinese offerings, it is done at least on the level of what you would expect at an H-mart or Korea town food court, but by no means is it on the upper echelon of where these dishes strive to be. If I were rating with my tongue, I would say the jajangmyeon could have chewier noodles, the black bean sauce could have more tender bits of meat and depth of flavor, and the jjamppong could have a less MSG-laden broth with fresher seafood(sandy mussels and overcooked squid/shrimp), but if I were rating the dishes with my stomach, I would say the jajangmyeon hits the spot since the drive towards Annandale/Rockville would not offer a significantly better version( Unilocalers chime in if you have suggestions) and the jjamppong on it’s best day tastes like a deluxe Shin Ramen on steroids(a backhanded compliment I suppose). In terms of the traditional offerings, the bibimbap and nyangmyeon(available in summer only) are on the same level as their Korean-Chinese counterparts. In summary, if you appreciate Korean food court quality and price-point and enjoy supporting a long-standing local business who works hard and is attentive to customer service, you will not be disappointed, but if you are a Korean-Chinese cuisine aficionado or value ambience and quality of raw ingredients, Kang Chon may come up short.

The bibimbap in the hot stone bowl was delicious and the bowl made the rice wonderfully crisp on the bottom. I recommend not to be in a hurry however, I had an appointment and when I asked for a box and the check so I could get to my appointment the gentleman(owner?) was wonderful and made sure I got a takeout box and my check quickly.

I’m sad to drop my rating, but for 3 visits now my family has noticed a decrease in quality. The Bibimbap has so little meat in it as to be laughable, and the dish is dry and just screams for some sort of sauce or other moisture. All dishes lack flavor, and although they have hot sauce on the table, that can only do so much.

So i ordered a take-out and i got the jjangmun and it was DELICIOUS it also came with side dishes(kimchi & pickled radish) in separate containers and they give you a pretty decent amount of noodles and sauce for $ 5.99 including side dishes. Also when you first come in they greet you in Korean which was nice too. Surely gonna come back!

I’m sitting here for lunch at 2pm waiting for my check. I’m the ONLY customer in the restaurant!!! The waitress is busing a table next to me, smiles, and goes on her way. Now she’s sitting at the bar while a customer over here… Hello… Would probably need some attention since I’ve been sitting here 20 minutes. Am I sitting here to watch TV. No. Terrible customer service… And prices are too high. I will not return. No tip. I’ve NEVER done that. Hunan Deli forever.

I spoke too soon! My husband and I went here again but this time sat down for dinner. We were the only other customers there at 5:30 on a Friday night. We ordered the seafood jjam bong and the galbi. Once all the food came out the waitress asked us if we wanted rice and we said yes. We enjoyed our dinner however my husband said the jjam bong tasted like the ramen we make at home from a package and the galbi was too sweet. The worse part came when we asked for our bill which came out be $ 41! The jjam bong was about $ 10 but the galbi was a whole $ 25! In addition, there were two mysterious charges on the bill, two charges for $ 1.50 and another $ 3. When we asked about the charges we were told it was for rice. I can’t believe they charges us for two bowls of rice considering I needed it to eat with my galbi! After we left I looked at the menu on Unilocal and noticed the galbi was only $ 11.99. I went back to ask about the charges and was told there were two different types of galbi and I apparently had the more expensive one that comes with rice. Well our waitress never explain or clarified which galbi. I won’t be going back.

The Bulgogi with beef and vegetables was alright but I wouldn’t pay $ 20 for it ever again. My husband got beef and broccoli, he didn’t like it. It was very soupy and tasted very different from Chinese restaurants. I came here because I knew Honey Pig would be packed on a Friday. I wouldn’t go back but that’s just my opinion.

I have eaten at this Korean Restaurant more than once and the food is always good. I really Like the Dwen Jang Jji Gae(Bean Paste stew with veggies in a hot pot), Beef Dupbap, and Yuk Gye Jang(Spicy broth with shredded beef). I have tried these dishes more than once. The Sam Sun Ja Jang was good, the noodles had a nice chewy texture. A nice place to eat and enjoy your meal. July 29, 2015– just enjoyed a nice meal of spicy cod fish stew. The dish came out piping hot with side dishes. The stew was spicy and flavorful. I would definitely order the cod fish stew again! Stew has a lot of fish and veggies, just the right amount of spice!

The first time I dined in, the food and service was meh-okay. I got the soondubu(tofu seafood stew) and it was alright, nothing amazing. I saw some other tables had jampong(spicy seafood noodles), I was hoping to get that next time but sadly it looks like I will no longer patron Kang Chon(more on that below). On Friday I decided to order delivery. I called and was greeted in Korean, which is okay… but I don’t speak Korean. Anyways, I gave the details of my order. Then the lady stated I needed a minimum of $ 40 for delivery(I live less than 2 miles away), and my order was only $ 26. It was for two people, and we really couldn’t think of anything else we wanted so I told her I will call back for pick-up if needed. She grunts and hangs up. There was no bye, no thanks, or okay… she just hung up! How freaking rude. It is really sad and telling when businesses employ rude staff, it implies they do not care about customers and only care about money. I am not sorry for writing this review, and I sure hope the business sees this and does something about it. If you require a minimum of $ 40 charge — fine, state it on your website or on a sign, or advise customers when they call before putting in an order. Do not just hang up on a customer — that is ill-mannered and disrespectful.

This is one of those spots that is tucked away in the back of the shopping center. You wouldn’t know it from the outside but the food is actually delicious. They finally have pictures with the menu. I ordered the Chicken Bokeum Bap. This dish is spicy, sweet, and visually stunning. It is my goto dish to open up the sinus if you are not in the mood for soup. The service is friendly and welcoming.

On every subsequent visit, I’m even more surprised by the quality of food and service at this establishment. It’s definitely one of my favorite Korean joints in the DMV area. As noted, jjamppong is on point and so are the other dishes. Last night, I finally had the chance to try their jjajangmyun(black bean and ground pork noodles)! It only took half a dozen visits(I always get their jjamppong because it’s mighty delicious, especially in cold months). I’ve had the Chinese version at China Wok and prefer Kang Chon’s Korean version. There are great similarities, just differences in black bean flavor and quantity of ground pork. My friend had their kimchijigae and liked it a lot. I wonder if management has changed since the banchan variety is different, but good. I really appreciated the crispy string beans, spicy broccoli, and pickled radishes. Barley tea is complimentary and very soul-satisfying on blistering cold days. Prices are also very reasonable as mentioned in my previous review. Service is fantastic. I dropped my chopsticks and when I lifted my head after picking it up, a server was coming towards me with a new pair. That’s good service! I will be back!

2nd visit here and loved the place! Go check this out and you won’t be disappointed. Prices on par with other Korean restaurants in Koreandale. Staff is friendly, food is very good, and a clean, tidy establishment. You also get complimentary hot barley tea. Wasn’t too busy for a Thursday night. There were only two sets of customers not including us. Kpop music was quietly playing not blaring in the background. The menu is written in both English and Korean. We ordered the son du bu(soup with tofu and pork) and the marinated rib eye served over white rice. That with the banchan really hit the spot. They have wi-fi too! It’s a must when considering a really great Korean dining option.

I came across this place on my friend’s instagram and I thought I should check this place out. I never heard this place before but it is located in springfield, across from chick fil a shopping center. I believe this shopping center is under renovation so finding the restaurant could be hard, but parking is definitely no problem. The restaurant is located on the left side when you turn right at the light from backlick road. My friend and I came here on a Monday night and it was okay. The place wasn’t crowded but it got busy around dinner time. We both ordered Seafood Jjam Bbong(i believe number 34). It was only 8.99 for that big bowl of noodles. We both underestimated the portion of that noodles. It was pretty huge that we both couldn’t even finish it. The noodles itself was very chewy(which I love it) and it came with a lot of seafoods. The soup was a little spicy but not that bad(I am not a spicy person so if I can handle it, you can too). I definitely think the price is reasonable and for that huge portion, I think its worth it to give this place a try. The service was great. The servers constantly came back to check on us and refilled our water. I was very pleased with their services(especially korean’s restaurants, since I had so many bad experiences with others around annandale area). Overall, this place is great and worth the try. I would definitely come back to try other items on the menu and maybe on the weekends to compares their quality and service at this place.
