As a new transgender female I am greatly thankful that the State of Illinois has made it illegal to discriminate or harrass anyone on the basis of gender identity or expression. The police here in Chicago have made it clear that the law in this regard will be enforced. This issue is not seen this way in all states and in fact the states which have joined Illinois in this are in the minority and some states even make it illegal to express gender differently than one’s birth gender. I called the police here in Chicago to ask which public restroom I should use when I am crossdressing, which will be all the time, and they said it depends on how I look, certainly a pragmatic and workable condition that supports good taste in dress and makeup. Update: I had to cancel my transition to female because I have clotting problems and estrogen increases that risk.
