They horribly overcharged an elderly person for a water heater. Without a written estimate they charged $ 2800.00 to install a water heater that costs approximately $ 800.00. When asked to provide an explanation and itemized breakdown of why they would charge $ 2000 for a 2 hour installation, they would not. Their own paperwork has a preprinted area where that breakdown would be filled in, similar to any auto mechanic or contractor. It was blank. Repeatedly ask for the reason they would charge that amount when the national and local average for a similar unit is generally 1200 – 1400($ 800 heater, 300 – 400 for installation is the high end for a 40 gal natural gas heater). They would not. I have found 3 licensed contractors that have quoted 1200 – 1400 for this same unit and installation. I have not found a single instance of someone reporting a cost of $ 2800 for a 40 gal natural gas water heater. That include folks that feel they have been wrongly overcharged. The national average is listed in many places including Angies list as being 800‑1000. Assuming the high end of $ 1400 is very fair for this unit, then obviously charging $ 2800 and refusing to give a breakdown of that cost leads me to the only possibility being that Hurley&David decided to impose an elderly tax.

From the moment they answer the phone with«How can I help you smile» they had me hooked! I had no heat and knew exactly what I needed to smile– and they made that happen. Same day as I called 2 technicians were at my house to check the system. they were neat and clean(used those booty covers over shoes) and better yet they knew what they were doing. I needed a new furnace. Linda, a comfort specialist(not really sure if that’s the exact title but that’s how she functioned) came that very afternoon to explain all my options. She spent 2 ½ hours in my home measuring to make sure I got the right unit, and then carefully explaining choices. She then won me over completely by leaving me space heaters for my cold home until we could get the job done. 2 days later, I had a new system. the old system was removed neatly and the new system installed without problem. Since that time, I have received phone calls to ensure I am satisfied, a thank you card for my business, and a fruit basket! I am now a H & D customer for the future. And it was their commercials that grabbed my attention to call. They really are a family business that cares.
