HORRIBLE service. Came here based on Unilocal reviews on a road trip. I ordered two simple subs and ended up walking out the door after nearly an hour with a sub that wasn’t even what I ordered. Staff member Meg resorted to sassing me, rolling eyes, and telling me I was wrong over just kindly fixing multiple things they messed up on two simple sandwiches. I was refunded by a kinder staff member, but Meg was absolutely awful. I must admit the sweet bread was good, but today’s ridiculous service wasn’t worth the extreme wait or awful staff. This establishment, and particularly Meg, completely ruined my afternoon. AWFUL.

Ridiculously incompetent service. Meg is the worst. Ordered a simple Italian, toasted on Wheat; no mayo or oil/vinegar. First try, they gave it to another customer. 2nd try, the sandwich never got made. 3rd try, sandwich had mayo & oil, even though we reminded them to hold them. Meg then tried to say there was no mayo… and then asked if there was a problem, like if we were allergic. REALLYBAD.

Love their sweet bread. Generous sizes and yummy selections. Staff courtesy can be hit or miss — sometimes friendly sometimes not.

Pretty good. pretty good. They have the Coke Machine that makes whatever you want. Not sure how that Subway is still in business. Huge portions at cheap prices.

Hands down the best sub for the price you pay! Huge, great quality and delicious! Everyone is super nice and very conviently located off the highway. We stop here every time on our trip from St. Louis to Chicago.

Driving through we needed a quick stop for lunch. We read the reviews and they were all spot on! The food was fast and delicious. The line was out the door and now we know why!

First time here, driving from STL to Chicago. Needed something filling for lunch, did not disappoint. Italian on sweet bread, with banana peppers. Excellent.

Wowsers those were some delicious sandwiches! Glad Unilocal steered us here as we drove thru town — easy to gas and go. Friendly folks and fast service, and most importantly, three memorable sandwiches

I have to say first off I agree with the comments on here about the employees being kind of off sometimes, especially when friends or regulars come in. Not every employee is like that but anyway. I’ve been many times and just now am writing a review. Here is the reason for 3 stars. Their service can be rude. So on their website and in the store their hours clearly state 10 – 10. I went in at 10:55 to get a sandwich. I waited at the counter for a few awkward minutes and I could hear people talking in the back room and one said«ugh we aren’t even open yet but ok»…uh? Well, their doors were open, lights were on, open sign was up, and it was 55 minutes past the time they were supposed to open. I get it if I showed up at 955. But I didn’t. So they seemed super pissed off to serve me. The sandwich’s are always good. I got the ham and cheddar toasted. This is a picky complaint but my sandwich took 10 minutes to toast… and I was the only one there. It’s a machine that does it but I don’t remember it taking that long before. I went in a few days earlier and got a chicken Parmesan and they said«just FYI it’ll be 20 minutes». If you’re a sub shop it shouldn’t take you 20 minutes unless there’s a long line in front of me. With subway being so close, step it up. Their desserts are very good. If they weren’t in springfield, they wouldn’t last with their service but here we have no other options.

I tried this for lunch while in town for a work training. Great homemade bread, fresh ingredients, good menu options. I’m happy to see a local place thriving so well next to a chain. They have some expected menu options as far as subs, and some good interesting stuff like hummus and Jones Sodas. Would recommend and return!

One of the best sub shops in Springfield by far. I have been to all of their locations and they all are up to par. That Hawaiian sweet bread is the best bread for a sub. If you have never been here, you definitely need to make a point to visit it!!!

Forget the Subway in the same strip mall. This place rocks. The subs are served on sweetbread which is soo good and they pile on the meat, much more than Subway offers. I had a turkey with provolone and tomato and it filled me up. Can’t imagine what it would be like to get a sandwich wit heir«Basics».

I love Head West but it’s usually an unpleasant experience to go there during the weekday lunch rush. Ordering online to pick up hasn’t worked for me yet because my order isn’t made when I arrive. Don’t order delivery because sometimes they forget to actually bring your order(happened to me, waited over an hour). Also, I get charged for extra pickles online(50 cents for one pickle) but if you ask for extra in store, they won’t charge you.

Definitely not your average sub shop. I like that they are consistent with their«deadhead» theme and support local music. Ordered 3 subs, all of which were great and they even customized one just for me. Great customer service!

Better than average subs available hot or cold. I’m a fan of the roast beef sandwich or the turkey sandwich. The bread is fresh and very tasty. Given the fast food choices in this vicinity, this would be the best choice!

Mediocre subs… clueless staff. I walked in and stood by the register for several minutes only to be cut in front of by someone who knew the one of the workers by name. Very insulting. The staff here just seems to ignore the ‘first come first serve’ rule. Very good pastrami here… However I’ll just go somewhere else where they acknowledge you when you come in and serve you before the people who walked in a couple minutes after you.

Great local stop on road trip between St. Louis and Chicago. The bread lived up to expectations. #1 and Italian were solid, turkey bacon ranch turned out to be so-so. Friendly service, as we were compensated for a short delay with a brownie. Definitely worth a quick stop.

I came here as I was staying at the local hotel and was in the mood for a sub so I figured I’d give it a try. I wasn’t disappointed, the sub I had was a turkey and ham and it wasn’t lacking the potions, you can also add all the fixings you like. It was served on sweet bread which was actually pretty good, had it toasted as well. I could have actually had the half Sub since the Subs are good size so keep that in mind. The place was clean and gave me a hippie vibe, the staff was courteous and helpful being my first time there. I will definitely go back again.

Ordered delivery to our RV when staying locally in a park for the night. Guy came to the park and gave me a call which made it easy. Ordered a ruben(they made it RIGHT with pastrami and not corned beef like back home!) and the turkey with everything they had for vegetables on it. Subs were awesome… bread was wicked good, packed with meat and cheese, and toasted just right. Wish I could replace all the Subways with this place!

While traveling southwest on Interstate 55, I was Unilocaling for a place to grab a quick bite to eat. I quickly noticed several Head West Sub shops pop up on the Unilocal app. Head West is a local Springfield chain that promotes their sweet bread subs. This location just off I-55 on Toronto Road(south of downtown Springfield) has an interior«décor» of brightly painted walls, punk art and rock ‘n roll music. This eatery seemed to attract a younger aged clientele of high school teenagers and 20-something’s. The menu offers soup(changing daily), salads and, you got it, submarine sandwiches. All sandwiches are served cold, unless requested otherwise. I like their«Pick 2» deal(choice of salad, sandwich and/or soup) for $ 6 – similar to Panera but without the side. I ate the Chicken Salad Provolone sandwich. I wasn’t super impressed, but the sweet bread was pretty tasty. The garden salad was basic with lettuce, tomato, green peppers and onion, but the chef salad with cheddar cheese and ham looked better. I’m not sure if I would stop here again, however, it is probably better than the Subway which shares the same parking lot.
