Hands down THEBEST Dive in Springfield, MO! They just changed owners and I haven’t been since that– so the next time I’m in MO, I will visit again. My hope is that the new owner will be able to maintain the great atmosphere, community togetherness and overall great experience. Fingers crossed!!!

Textbook example of a dive bar. Great handmade burgers and fries and you could also order fresh made pork rinds. Only place I know of that does that. Fun homey atmosphere where the staff and customers often trade jabs which definitely passes the time and makes for some good laughs while your order is being prepared. Service was good and the food was very reasonably priced. If I’m in Springfield and in the mood for some good ol’ greasy comfort food I will definitely hit The Drunken Monkey again!

Dive dive dive… A regular spot for Northsiders. Don’t come in with your cardigan, and boat shoe’s unless you want trouble. The inside is a bit small with a few tables, and booths. A jukebox sits by the small restrooms. On an average night you’ll find the regulars, bar flies, and meth heads who scrounged enough to buy a beer. Staff is usually alway friendly, and the drinks are CHEAP! Weekends are about the same, but usually more packed. They do have a great outdoors area with plenty of room, bar, and stage. It’s like a white trash Kokomo. lol«I can say that because I grew up on the Northside.» Bike nights on Tuesday’s are stupid packed! Literally one of the best, and biggest in Springfield. If you come in wanting trouble you’ll find more that you want. If you look like you are trying to impress people you’ll get heckled. If you’re a Southsider just throw on a pair of blue jeans, and a old shirt before you come in. Mind your business, and enjoy your cheap drinks. Most everyone here knows each other.

Well, driving by this place, I see a great big sign outside that advertises Deep Fried Cheeseburgers! Naturally, being a male carnivorous type, I just had to turn around and check this out. The Drunken Monkey is a small friendly bar, that also serves as a Restaurant during the daytime. The people were immediately polite and friendly to me and I felt welcome just coming in. I ordered their Deep Fried Cheeseburger, which comes with the normal fixings(Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickle) and fresh cut frenchfries, and I gotta tell ya, it was a real treat to eat. The price wasn’t bad either, at 6.99 so I can’t complain all around. While there, I heard they also had Karaōke on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 8pm, so I made a point to go back later last night(Friday, the 21st) and help celebrate the upcoming Mayan End of the world with a new crowd. The Crowd was pumped, the Music was good and the sound system was set up with the acoustics of the place in mind, so nobody was blasted out and you could hear the singers clearly. AND let me tell you, some great singers came through that place! I ordered their special, for dinner, an 8oz steak with Salad and Fries, sadly, the steak was overcooked(I blame the waitress not fully hearing me say Med Rare, so communication, not their fault) and it was later so it was the last steak they had, but I re-ordered a pulled pork BBQ sandwich and that came with coleslaw and fries(although I told them not to make new fries, I’d eat the ones that came with the steak) They were very apologetic, and helpful about the miscommunication, which we all know happens, so I cant’ fault their service at all. The pulled pork was very tasty, and as before, their fries were good. If I had any negative feedback on the food at all, it would be the coleslaw was a little watery with dressing. Just want to give an accurate account, hope you come out and enjoy… I plan to try and make it there again maybe next Friday, who’s gonna join Me!!! If you do, I’m the Singer called up as «Doc» for karaōke!

Dan’s Place gets a new owner and a face lift. I guess this place used to be named Dan’s place and was run by Dan. I tis now owned by the owners of Moonshiners. The service is really friendly and they are just getting up and running after a major overhaul of the interior. The menu is traditional bar food with chicken tenders and some good soups available. The special on Friday and Saturday nights is Prime Rib of course. it is a fairly good cut and the cook does season it well. I ordered mine medium rare and it was perfect. He also goes out of his way to make the meals pleasing to the eye as well as the pallet. They put a lot of effort into this place and the only complaint I have is they need more dark beer, Guinness, Murphy’s or something along those lines. i am tired of bars only going as far as Amber Bock then calling it good. Some of us like to chew our beer. All in all it was a pleasant experience and I will be back.
