Cardinal Lawn & Garden Center

I have been coming to this nursery for 45 years. I come in for small items– onion sets or large projects such as landscaping, taking away old plants and putting in a new planter area. They are knowledgeable and trustworthy– they did some of the landscaping while we were on vacation. I always can rely on their expertise and if I have a question they are always ready to answer it.

This place should be listed as a New Jersey treasure. If you are looking for a garden center that is a garden center, this is it. Beautiful. Swing by early in the morning and it is stunning in every way. Each area is arranged with perfect examples of plants in flower. The owners are pleasant and very knowlegeable.

I’ve been a regular customer of Cardinal for over 25 years, and they are always my first stop on the springtime Saturdays dedicated to resurrecting our gardens. Service is always extremely knowledgeable and has steered me to less expensive and better options frequently. Their stock for the season arrives gradually, but is always top quality at reasonable prices. Sure, the local supermarkets and big box retailers may cost a bit less, but the end result (after the work is done) usually favors Cardinal.
Once fully stocked, the selection at Cardinal is very good. Things like peat moss and fertilizers are reasonably priced, and aren’t loaded with weed seeds and debris.
Very nice people running a well-​established local business. Be careful of which driveway you use and where you park. There are a lot of cats, and an occasional small child– slow down!

These folks know their stuff and have a great selection of plants and shrubs you won’t always find at the big box stores.
For example my landscaper was being quoted $ 500 for a 6′ Weeping Spruce. These guys had it for $ 175. Also took away three Ligularia and one Encore Azalea!

[I posted the same thing at Google Maps] Calling around I found they were the only place that had Milk Spores (organic insecticide). They are nestled in a very residential area of Springfield. When I got there I was surprised to see such a great inventory of stuff you would find in a country garden store. For example, they had at a minimum 5 different ways to label your plants! They were very at tentative and insightful. If you did not find what you needed at Lowes or Home Depot or just unsatisfied, they probably have it here and probably other things you never knew about but wish you did! By the way, their prices were actually very competitive to both the big box stores and Amazon.
