Meal was good but service slow even though we arrived during a non rush period. The meal is half the deal, service matters also.

Excellent Buffalo chicken dip and zucchini fries. And they are not shy with the whiskey. Our server, Alyssa, was a delight!

This review is for our visit last night, 1−18−16. We have been to this location several times over the years, however it has been a few years since our last visit. The location is nice, and well located in downtown Springfield with free parking less than a block away. We arrived just after 5 pm. It was my daughter’s 21st birthday and she wanted to spend it with family eating dinner at BW. All went pretty well sitting our party of 9 promptly. We had called ahead and they had tables pushed together and where ready for us. We ordered our first round of drinks and they came a bit slower than expected considering we where only one of four groups in the location. Our server did a great job and was very patient with us as we ordered apps but then took a bit to order dinner. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, one of the nightly specials. The pretzel bun and pork tasted good, however there was barely a quarter of an inch of meat on the sandwich. Another member of the group had the same sandwich, with a similar amount of meat. My father order the fish and chips and said it was very good. The two stars comes for four reasons: First the menu says that drinks are half price during happy hour from 4 – 6. They charged us $ 3 per Mich Ultra as a happy hour price. Guinness drafts were $ 2.70 during happy hour. Secondly, two guys from the kitchen staff kept coming out to talk to the bartender and one of the severs. On their second trip out, in the middle of the restaurant, they pulled their shirts up to give each other a bare chested bump. Thirdly, on our drink reorder during dinner, I had to go find our server as the drinks never arrived. She apologized and said she entered them, but the bartender had gone outside for a while. I’m not sure why the only bartender working at that time, would go on smoke break during happy hour at 5:40 pm. Lastly, the poor execution on the bbq sandwich. Additionally, my son order a Mother’s wheat beer, it was listed correctly on the ticket, however he was served a different Mother’s beer. He noticed half way through the beer, that it had expired on 12−23−15. Maybe it was just because it was a Monday, in January. Let’s hope anyway. I’m afraid after reading other reviews, that they have a management issue at this location. If you want BW, I would try a different location in the city.

Wow, sorry to say but the food was good if I could find it. I got the BBQ special and I think they ran out of meat. It was all bread and hardly any meat. The drinks were expensive and the food was ok but wheres the beef. The server tried to sneak a extra side upgrade on my bill and then when I asked her about it she blamed the guy in the kitchen was messing with her order? What bs. I hate when they try to seal for you and act like it was a mistake. the guy in the kitchen must of been in management or a employee trying to get a free meal on my dime. My daughter wanted to go there because her friends wanted to eat the special. Which was a north Carolina sauce chicken leftovers thrown into a bowl with a few chips. Tasted good but not restaurant quality and priced high. I am sure Springfield has better burger and bars then this place. Oh, I forgot my girlfriend indicated that the lock to close the stall in the bathrooms was none, non-existent.

It’s okay for a downtown bar. You probably want to go on a Sunday or during the day. It’s a bar, for heaven’s sake.

I live downtown and was excited that i had a meeting to attend here, since I’d never tried it and the place looked nice. This place is horrible. Out of the four people in our(aprox) 12 person group that i was sitting with, only two orders even came out as described. The customer service was beyond lacking, rude, really. We were rushed out of here despite business being slow. I ordered what was described as a chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo and buffalo sauce. The sandwhich tasted fine and had chipotle mayo, but the chicken breast was juicy with a bbq like sauce, no buffalo sauce to be found. The person in front of me ordered what appeared to be a simpler version of this, but fried, and also had no spice or buffalo sauce. It was a meeting, so I didn’t bother making a deal out of it. Our waiter was very okay at his job until about 35 minutes after receiving our food, when, at 8pm on a Thursday, they decided we were all done and gave everyone checks(regardless of whether their food was finished or not) and quit coming to check on us except to ask for the check.(There was a mass of empty tables around us. Not busy at all.) No drink refills. One person in our party actually wanted to order something else and had to wait two seperate trips from the waiter becuase the minute he said he wasn’t ready to pay, the waiter just walked away. He finally was able to order and this food came out just as described on the menu. Except in a to go box. He even mentioned to the waiter, as it was being served, he planned to eat it right there. The waiter did not apologize, he simply walked away. We were there until 9, at which point everyone had thoroughly dry and empty cups. Even the person whom was still eating his second order out of a to go box.(I left before others in the party) To top all of this off, my boyfriend had tried to use the jukebox on the wall and it began blaring during(apparently) ‘the game’, and she promptly and unapologetically came over and said she was turning it off because there’s a game on. She came by our table with a rolled up dollar bill and without a word handed it to him and walked away. I would not buy another $ 10+ meal here.

Granted it was insanely busy, but the worst experience I have had in a restaurant. We waited an hour and half for our food. The management allowed one person to drink until he was puking as he exited, took staff 20 minutes before they started to clean it up. The fries where delicious, however my philly steak and cheese was served without cheese. When I was finally able to get the servers attention, he offered to take a dollar off my bill, at this point I was so hungry I agreed, and had to remind the waiter after he brought my bill. I’ll stick with the Big Whiskeys in Ozark from now on.

The famous chicken sandwich was delicious for bar food the wife had the philly cheese, would not recommend. It was a little dry, a whole lotta bread but where’s da beef! Table was sticky and we were told it was because the night before was the NCAA finals, guess no one wiped them down before they left. Bud light tasted light cream soda, was told by waitress that it was because the beers were a long distance from the tap and the beer traveled down the same tube, that’s awesome. But I would go back, she was sweet and next time I am sitting at the bar.

Having an automatic gratuity on parties is unacceptable. If the waitress is not performing adequately then they should not be tipped as if they had. Several of my party where dissatisfied with the service and the waitress was blindsided when we spoke to the manager about this. One member of my party tried taking the polite route until we saw the automatic gratuity. It shouldn’t be there because we as the paying customer are the ones who determine the tip. Their burger was almost raw and the member was not interested in having anything else from them, however the member of their management team kept pushing the issue. If the business had called it a party size service charge, it would have been a totally different story. We as patrons should not be required to make sure the waitress earns at least minimum wage in tips. That is the business responsibility alone to make sure that she is properly trained to provide that level of service.

I don’t have a lot to say about this place. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. The fries were the best thing about my meal. The fries were freakin’ delicious! Everyone should go there once, to eat the fries. Everyone in my group got something different, and everyone said, «It was fine,» about the entrée portion of their meal.

Caution: Review from one who doesn’t eat red meat often. I have been to Big Whiskey’s several times to indulge my husband and get a red meat fix. I’m not going to lie, I like it. First off, Big Whiskey’s offers one of the best happy hours in downtown Springfield. Though, watch out! That sentence was only pertaining to drinks. I can get a bottle of Mother’s Three Blind Mice for $ 2 and some small change after taxes. Yay! However, once upon a golden era, Big Whiskey’s offered half-priced appetizers during happy hour as well. I could get my beer and an order of fried pickles for under $ 7. One happy hormonal girl. Until, I learned that Big Whiskey’s only offers«select» appetizers for happy hour now. This is only the appetizers that are categorized as «dips.» No more fried pickles, which was alright, I guess. I still can’t get a $ 2 Mother’s beer even at the tap room after work. Even though, I like to share the love of Mother’s tasting room often. So, we split our time in between the two establishments for our beloved craft brews. Second, I have had several things on the menu here for dinner. I’d have to say one of the best parts about this establishment is the accommodation of patrons. I stopped eating red meat several months ago, but loved Big Whiskey’s Jalapeño Burger. This establishment accommodates my request to get a Jalapeño Burger made with turkey instead of beef. What gets even better is when my vegan friends come with us, the wait staff and cooks accommodate to their requests as well. I love good service when I experience it. However, don’t try to come here on any given college soroity sister’s shot night, because they will reserve the whole amount of seating and the staff doesn’t always clearly mark which tables are indeed reserved. In a nutshell, don’t expect to write home about this chain restaurant, but they are happy to honor your requests. This is a nugget of awesomeness in a corporate-driven era for restaurants, such as Big Whiskey’s.

I’m willing to fend off a pitchfork-and-flame-wielding crowd to say this, but I just don’t really understand the appeal behind Big Whiskey’s. I’ve been to each location at least once and I’ve never had the reaction other fine folks seem to have. At long last, BF and I have pegged any impending Big Whiskey’s experience as a descent into the mediocre and subsequently avoid it, as do many of our friends at this point. I’ve ordered a variety of food items here, including nachos and an appetizer for fried zucchini sticks. Both items were pretty bland and had something off-putting about them. The nachos got too soggy to hold up before I could get halfway through them. The zucchini sticks were underfried and were battered in something akin to funnel cake batter. As a former theme park minion, I really love funnel cake batter at the right time, but on this occasion I was searching for something tasty and light(yo, where’s the mass movement in favor of tempura batter?! I’m waiting, society!). I ended up picking the fried part off, which only resulted in a few wimpy, slimy, tasteless slabs of zucchini. Womp-womp. Maybe I should have picked a different item. Then again, I think the merits of a restaurant can still be fairly analyzed based on the quality of its probably less-ordered options. I’ve had good, enthuasiastic servers once or twice at Big Whiskey’s, but I’ve also had some that seemed to be going through the motions to the degree that they were inattentive and apathetic. I have trouble deciding if this is just par the course for every chain sports bar on the planet(probably, actually) but the main takeaway is that the service isn’t anything to rave about. Neither is the décor: it’s like it came from a DIY restaurant kit called«Sports Bar in a Box!» I’ve never ordered a drink here unless a milkshake counts(«Milkshake in a Box!»), so if you’re just looking to throw back a few while watching the game, you’ll probably have a decent time. Other than that, I’d equate Big Whiskey’s to a slightly lower caliber T.G.I. Friday’s, minus the mild food poisoning I once got from the latter.

I was in Springfield in Nov 2012 and a group of us came here. I had a really good burger and the wait staff was pleasant with our big group. Didn’t have any whiskey though, I’m a craft beer woman.

We were wandering the streets of downtown Springfield trying to find something to eat before a concert at the Shrine Mosque… I spotted Big Whiskeys & it looked like the best option around. Plus, we were going to see 311, and the address for Big Whiskeys just happens to be 311… fate much? The place was definitely hopping, there was a good crowd and everyone’s food looked delicious. I accidentally ordered the Turkey Reuben(my brain was saying Turkey Melt, but my mouth said Turkey Reuben)… and even though I loathe sauerkraut, I ate it, and it was delicious! The only downside is that this place is hella loud, and pretty smoky. Not a fan of having a side of tar with my sandwich.

Other than being a bar Bg Whiskeys has continually been praised for its«bar food». This place is really a restaurant disguised as a bar. The food is great and beats many local restaurants. The downtown location usually makes this the first stop for drinks + dinner before a night out on the town.

I went to Big Whiskey’s a couple times for drinks and I didn’t realize they served food. During my latest visit to SGF every member of my Springfieldian fam raved about the grub at Big Whiskey’s, so I decided to see what the fuss was about. I am my family’s token vegetarian, and they told me to order the salad with strawberries. I wanted to rock the boat, so I ordered the salad with pears, apples and maple vinaigrette. The salad was huge and the apples, pears and cheese were delish, but the dressing was way too sweet. I would order it again, but I would not get the maple dressing. My dad and I split the apple pie, and it was so-so. My carnivorous fam devoured their burgers, which are half-price on Mondays. I wish they offered veggie burgers… Overall the place is the epitome of satisfactory; it has nice atmosphere, wonderful service, lots of seating and Blue Moon on tap. I only really have one complaint about the place, but it is a big one: SMOKINESS! I’m pretty sure I didn’t order a side of lung cancer with my salad. It’s been a while since I went home smelling like an ashtray, and it made me feel even more love for California’s ban on smoking in public places.

Now, I’m a whiskey fan, particularly bourbons, so how could I pass up a place called Big Whiskey’s? Their whiskey list is extensive, stretching from Johnny Walker Blue Label to Basil Hayden’s. The other thing unique about Big Whiskey’s is that they have their own custom-blended Jack Daniels created by Jim Bedford himself. I didn’t want to throw down $ 300 for the special, but if you feel up to it, it comes with any 3 burgers you want and a bottle of this blend. This is, a sense, a low-key sports bar. There is plenty of seating as there are two stories, and a little bit of seating outside. They also have a pool table, darts, and a couple arcade games. I ended up going here on a Monday, and although there was a crowd, I wasn’t feeling the vibe. Everyone seemed distant, and overall uninteresting. Which is why I found myself at Trolley’s after a single drink. I think I would go back if I’m looking for a particular whiskey, but the scene was a little off. Besides, how can you have whiskey without ginger ale?!
