My wife and I went here the day after valentines day to celebrate our valentines day. The food was very good. I had the lasagna and my wife had the chicken parm, we both enjoyed our dishes immensely. It took quite a bit of time to receive our food however that is too be expected with nicer restaurants. The bread they brought out before our food was delicious. The price was reasonable. We will be back here again for sure in the future.

If I have some extra cash and want to eat one of the best meals in SGF-​land, I will always choose Avanzare! The quality of the food has always surpassed my expectations and I know it is going to be incredible. It is a small restaurant which can make it very romantic. A lot of care is given to every detail of the their service. If you have family or just want to impress a friend, this is the spot.

The standards in Avanzare’s kitchen are comparable to most 80s era Burger Kings. Sure, you might occasionally eat something safe for human consumption, but chances are it’s going to go down unpleasantly and out explosively.
I’ve been to Avanzare before, and I was largely impressed. I looked forward to returning. Now, a few years later, I worry that the quality has deteriorated substantially.
They have two specialty dishes named for Tony. Both are loaded with cream and are bland. Worse still the chicken had a noticeable odor.
I ordered the salmon. The fish was cooked decently but my mashed potatoes were cold and the fat had congealed.
The most miserable entrée was the chicken Alfredo. My poor grandmother unknowingly ate three bites of what was essentially Elmer’s glue and noodles before throwing in the towel.
We had salads, bruschetta, and fried calamari for our appetizers. The caprese salad and the bruschetta were good, but the calamari was rubbery and soggy.
In its defense, my brother ordered a filet and liked it a lot, and the service was excellent.

Once or twice a year, my team holds a large meeting in Springfield, and catering has been a challenge. As we are working very long days, we’d like a nice lunch, and something different than national chain sandwiches.
This summer, Tony and team catered for us one lunch. I was a bit hesitant on Italian food for lunch during an all-​day meeting, but Tony wowed us. We all knew it was going to be great just seeing Tony’s face — you could tell he cared and was proud of his work. Everything was so delicious, and he made sure to cover all of our food needs (vegetarians, no dairy, etc). Everyone loved the food — so much that we asked him to cater again the next day! And that was fantastic too!
I wish Tony could travel with us and make us food every day! We will definitely be using Tony again for catering and I can’t wait!

Excellent. Everything that my wife and I have had here was wonderful and the atmosphere is very relaxed and pleasant. My wife had professed an aversion to tiramisu, but was converted here. If you are going to order appetizers and desserts as a couple, I would advise splitting the entrée.
The only negative that made me consider 4 stars instead of 5 is that when the restaurant is very busy (such as on Valentine’s day) service has lagged. And my wife notes that the décor is slightly dated, but as a guy, I didn’t really notice. However, the excellent food and ambiance outweighed these critiques.

This one was a surprise to me. It was our anniversary and we had not been to Avanzare before so I setup a reservation. We both love pasta dishes so we were excited after looking over the menu. To start we had insalata di arugula. The salad was very good and ended up being the highlight of the meal. The mix of apple and Gorgonzola was great flavor combination. I followed that with the Linguini Alla Avanzare. Basically a seafood liguini with shrimp, scallops, and white wine garlic sauce. I’m sad to say it was bland. I’m not a big on adding salt to dishes but this one needed it. Not something I was expecting at all. My lady had a similar issue with her Pollo Caprese.
We finished the night with a crème brûlée. Hoping to end the night on a high note was no going to happen. Instead of a nice nut brown sugar we had burned already cracked tar. At that point we were just done. We don’t like to raise a fuss so we paid and went on our way. But seriously I didn’t have to taste that brulee to know it was wrong and neither should have the waiter.
Always give a place a second chance and hope this was a one off miss.

Pros: Decent Italian food
Cons: Cramped & smoky location. Egregiously over-​priced.
Keeping this review short. Good — but not great — italian food. Fresh quality ingredients and well prepared. Service was good and décor was fair. I’d be happy to eat here again, but… the prices were ridiculous. Completely out-​of-​line for the ambiance and food quality.
My point isn’t to diss Springfield, but I could have had the exact same meal, décor and service in Kansas City or Denver for about 2⁄3 the price. Is the dining selection in Springfield so limited that a restaurant like this can get away with these prices? Obviously it stuck in my craw.
If someone else is picking-​up the tab, eat here. The food is good and you’ll be happy. Just don’t pay for it yourself.

This is a wonderful Springfield gem that took me a few years to discover. I have tried much of the menu an have not had anything that I would not order again. I recommend the rigatoni a la Tony, which is probably the best pasta I have ever had.
The venue is very classy, you would never guess it is located in the strip mall from the inside. There is a party room that is available for events that seats about 15 or so comfortably.
I highly recommend Avanzare for special events or a nice night out.
We love the place. Great food and great service. It is where we do our date night most of the time
