As Metro Center became desirable during the past few years, 122 Chestnut — built in 1915 as a YMCA — became a very attractive rental option. Located in the Apremont Triangle Historic District, 122 Chestnut is a vintage building with a fitness club, pool, and roofdeck that has great views of Metro Center, Springfield.(Whenever there are fireworks, people will race up to the roofdeck!) Until recently, one of my family members lived at 122 Chestnut.(He bought a condo in Metro Center.) I always found this property to be well-kept, and the tenants I met seemed like good people. In the past five to ten years the character of the tenants changed from young ‘future business’ types to artists, bohemians, and musicians. This reflects what’s happening in the Apremont neighborhood, in general.
