Taco Maker is/was an underrated taco joint that put a halal twist on Mexican food. Wildly popular in Puerto Rico, this chain restaurant opened its first Houston area store in 2013 and struggled to find its audience amidst the less than favorable reviews. The food was good, the sauces and meats were prepared fresh daily. If you are used to Taco Bell, prepare to be disappointed, this is not your average Taco place. It’s better! Now gone, La Cerichevia has taken the space and the landlord indicated that the same company that ran Taco Maker is also running this new restaurant.

Attn: Mari C. You must be a relative of the owner or something like that. The quality of the food was very low budget, it tasted like canned chicken and the baby nachos were nothing but graded cheese on some chips and thrown in a microwave. I’d have to say Jeremy E hit this nail right on the head!!! Horrible!

A telling sign of how good or bad a place might be is what the employees are eating when you get there — in my case when I walked into Taco Maker the employees were eating Arby’s and Pizza Hut. Against the alarms and bells going off in my head, me and my family ordered anyways. About one third of their counter top menu had duct tape covering things up on it. I used the wonderful multi-LCD display menu they had on the wall to place my order instead of the duct taped menus — When I asked the guy for some of their authentic fresh style tacos I saw on their LCDs, he pointed to the tape covered menus and explained they were discontinued — this was a bit of a disappointment especially in a place called The Taco Maker. You’d think maybe you’d be like making tacos or something. Driving forward with reckless abandon, I ordered the NON fresh or authentic 2 taco plate special with chicken. Wifey ordered a chicken burrito plate, kids got chicken nuggets and fries. While we sat at the table waiting for the food, my older son was watching the«cooks» and leaned over and whispered«Dad, they are not cooking the food, they are microwaving it, look.» and then he pointed to a sign they have hanging in the store that promises satisfaction and how fresh all their food is. Yikes. It was, as others have said, kind of like a bad Taco Bell. And I don’t like Taco Bell, so that’s pretty bad. Nothing tasted fresh, nothing about our visit would make me want to go back, and nothing about this place warrants the use of the business name The Taco Maker. Now I know why the employees chose to eat food from elsewhere. I will take their unspoken advice from now on.

Awwwwwful. The only plus was the sweet girl working the register. They use the chewiest crappiest meat(if you can even call it that– I am actually not sure it was meat) and put the most processed things around it. The guacamole is from a package. It’s nacho cheese like you get at the movies. I think was Taco Bell on crack. My husband and I wanted good Mexican food and tacos– this offered the worst dining experience I have ever had. Never going back.

Great place! You got to understand the concept because is different. This is based out of a puertorrican mexican chain. It is the exact flavor and cooking. All fresh non spicy ingredients. Awsome!!!

This is the worst taco stand of all time, in my opinion. I’m serious, they had to try to make food this horrible. There may be a worse taco out there, but I’ve never had it.

You have to try this place. I believe that this is the first Taco Maker in Texas. They have Taco Maker in other states and I always loved it. The food is fresh and the place is so clean. You can tell that the owners take really good care of this place. The quality of the food is very good. Don’t forget to try the crustos(sweet cinnamon chips), oh, and the baby nachos!

I thought prices were a touch high for what you get. I was only one ordering and both employees were right there listening for a to go order and they got it wrong. Chicken tacos tasted pretty good, beef tacos need help.

Buzzing down 2920 and in need of a taco fix I swerved into this place. The pork taco on corn tortillas was decent. Pico was decent. Seemed priced out of line. There are better tacos at many of these road side taquerias. Nothing really memorable here at Taco Maker except that I felt like I was at a Long John Silvers that was out of character. I thought perhaps there would be something interesting and authentic here, but discovered this to be in essence a fast food place. Look, you can shovel almost anything into a corn tortilla and top with a good pico de gallo and I’m in, but I’m not much on dining at fast food factories. Taco Maker sounded like perhaps the Zen of Tacos awaits you, but you’ll find the Zen of mediocrity instead.

Absolutely no value whatsoever. Roughly double the price of taco bell, for food that in my opinion is significantly worse. The whole thing is confusing. It is almost as if they want to fail. The hours are weird — they are often closed during peak times. There is almost never anyone there.
