Mount Miguel High School

Everyone seems to keep bashing this school. Its not at all true to what people say it is. The first post made no sense. She rambled on about driving her kids here for sports and the school was HOT as Vegas? The next post was written horribly, talking about the attendance lady? Who cares if she smiled at you or not. Maybe she had a stomach ache or she was yelled at by another parent or for any other reason. Get over it. Was I the only one who noticed but first of all her grammar was all wrong? #SPELL CHECK In my opionion not a good enough reason for the one star.
We were nervous about this school as well when my son first started in 2010. We bought a house here is Spring Valley and all I knew was supposedly Mt. Miguel was ghetto and filled with drugs and gangs. I did not want him to go to this school. My husband convinced me that if a kid is driven he will excel in a good school or a bad school. So okay I listened and enrolled him. Great choice. Let me tell you about him he is very ADHD and is your usual bratty kid who is trouble with the staff at times. He is a senior now and wow he survived! Most of the time when he needed to be disciplined it was handled in a fair way. I enrolled my daughter this year who was almost a straight A student in middle school. She went to a predominantly white neighborhood school in La Mesa and yes I was a little nervous. I was worried that she wouldn’t know how to adjust or handle the change of a different demographic area. So far so good she loves it.
I do recommend this school to anyone. It’s a good school. I also have to say it’s not the school to blame, sometimes it is your own child weather we want to believe it or not. In my opinion I think the helicopter type parents who gripe about things and complain that something didn’t go their way then they want to bash the school and say how bad it is. The schedule is great they have two schedules one that starts at 7:00 or 8:00am. Love it! Like I say not all kids are the same and that is okay. It’s not a one size fits all. Some are early birds and some are not. They offer great classes and clubs and have lots of different sports. Also, like ANY other school in ANY other neighborhood you have your good apples and your bad apples which includes the teachers. My son has had his fair share of horrible teachers here and there but the office staff I can say really helps to try to resolve and help the issue. But No the kids are NOT running around loose who are hard core gang members wearing bandanas and running around doing drugs and fighting everyone. Take this advice from me the parent who has expeience with this school. Don’t blame the school if your child gets involved with anything illegal or mischievious. YOUR child is the one who is weak minded regardless if they attend Mt. Miguel or attend a private school in La Jolla. Us the parents have to set the ground rules as to what is not acceptable behavior in high school.

So this is my kids first year here and I come to the administration office the receptionist is helpful but not friendly no smile. So I go to the ATTENDANCE lady asked to get my kids she again no greeting no smile NOTHING! I ask for my kids she said she got the note to have them out at 2pm I came 30 mins earlier and she wanted me to want 30 min till 2pm! Lol I said no. call them now please. she didn’t let me know anything if I stay there? Do they meet out side? So after a 5 min I asked do I meet them here? ATTENDANCE LADY SARA SAYING maybe? They could come here or out by your car? I found that rude because again New to the school? Anyways I left to the front to see if I could see them my self. ATTENDANCE LADY SARA YOU CAN STAY BEHIND YOUR LITTLE DOOR YOUR AND HIND YOUR FACE BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER! I will see you again and hope you have a better attitude next time we meet. I got 2 years left here sorts make it better for everyone new and returning parents and kids

WORST SCHOOL EVER! DONT EVER SEND YOUR KIDS HERE honestly there are a lot of students who are involved in drugs and gangs I would not ever recommend this school to any parent. …send your kids to a safer school if I could I would’ve gave them 0 stars.

Best school ever! I graduated here 2012 my sisters and nephew graduated from here as well. it’s not the school it’s your child. I loved everything about this school took so much in and so many opportunities to be involved thank you mount Miguel I wish I could go back.

Every time I gotta drive any of my kids here for a sports event or game that they’re a part of… it’s always been HOT over here… like Texas or Las Vegas summertime heat hot. Parking sucks and so does walking down a thousand stairs to get to the football or track field.
