Sycamore Ridge Golf Course

Best public course in the state of Kansas. Bent grass fairways and greens with white sand bunkers (currently renovating). Greens are well taken care of and fairly speedy (11 – 12 on stimp) during the peak golf season. The course is well worth the drive from the city.

This course is definitely in my top 3 courses I have played in the KC Metro. Located in Spring Hill, KS, don’t let the location or the unassuming club house fool you.
Starting off on the front 9, you are presented with beautifully manicured fairways that are soft and wide. The design is fairly wide open and encompasses the rolling hills it’s laid out upon. Cleverly placed bunkers are also a plenty. Don’t let the wide openness fool you though as it will still challenge golfers of any skill level.
Then you step out on the #10 tee box and swear you were just transported to a completely different golf course. Gone is the wide open scenery. It is replaced by broadleaf forest and lots of it. The fairways are insanely narrow, the dog legs are anything but gradual, and features like tiered fairways exist.
This is where you put up or shut up on this golf course. Seriously the back nine is a think of beauty and fear at the same time. Very few holes back here allow you to grip and rip, but rather require you to place precise shots (this is why I recently shot my worst round of the year here).
The clubhouse help is superb and very willing to help. The price to play here can be more expensive during peak hours than many other courses in the metro, however after 3 in the summer $ 28 tee times including cart are to be had 7 days a week.
If you haven’t played Sycamore Ridge Golf Course I can’t tell you enough what you are missing. Get out there and play it and I can guarantee it will become one of your favorite courses in the metro to play as it has mine.
