I have had 3 or 4 meals here. This location used to be the old Spotswood Diner. I have had a few different items on the menu, and all have been great so far. by far my favorite is the chili relleno — one of the reasons I like it so much is you can see the handwork in the dish, the char on the pepper, it’s very fresh. They don’t always have poblanos so if it’s something you are craving, call before you go. They give you a basket of chips and three different kinds of freshly made salsas… the prices are so reasonable as well. My only complaint is that the guacamole is avocado mixed with pico de gallo — I am sure it is done this way because its quick and easy, the salsa is already made — but it doesn’t hit the right note somehow. I have had the huarches, excellent — they are large, 2 was too much for me… my son has had the flautas, loved them… my husband has had tacos, and enchiladas verdes… he really really enjoyed them… no complaints on the food whatsoever… they always have loud music playing and also on TV, videos and music… please try. you will really like it. Casual, affordable, and really the best Mexican in the area.

By far the best Mexican place in this area. actually the best I’ve ever had. I never knew about this place because of the location being sort of out of view and I randomly happened upon it when I went to Spotswood jewelers. I would never have known otherwise. I was surprised as it is a full sized restaurant while I thought it would be a hole in the wall– now, the hole in the wall places are of course the best and most authentic. This combines comfortable dining with amazing Mexican food. Once my wife and I tried it there was no turning back. I’m a vegetarian so I appreciate the veggie options for everything. I’m addicted to the vegetarian quesadilla, which comes with rice and beans and a salad served very nicely. My wife is not a vegetarian so she has explored more of the menu and has never been disappointed. There are chips and 3 salsas as soon as you sit down. Great deserts– you must try the churros! I don’t have any complaints at all. I hope the word spreads about this restaurant so it can continue serving me the best Mexican food ever!

Love this place! Awesome Pico De Gallo and everything I’ve ever gotten here(tacos, burrito, carnitas, deserts, etc.) has been excellent. I am from the West Coast and this reminds me of some of the hole-in-the-wall places I used to frequent(in a very, very good way).

I had an excellent dinner here with my family. First we were served chips with three kinds of salsa; an avocado based one, a typical red salsa and a delicious fresh salsa. Then I had chicken fajitas which came out on a sizzling platter loaded with onions, peppers and cheese. They served refried beans and rice on the side. My son had the soft tacos and he said they were delicious and my husband had the quesadilla and he enjoyed it too. The restaurant is decorated to look like a Mexican festival and the waitresses are pleasant. We will be back. I want to try the enchiladas next.

Food is fresh and cooked to order my beef fajitas came out sizzling beef is tendered and well seasoned. Veggies are cooked but not soggy. Tortilla chips are served with a trio of sauces and salsa, spicy but not to hot, the way it is supposed to be, definitely give it a try

Very slow with how they work in here. Me and my mom went to lunch and we were there for 1 hr and 30 minutes. We were the only ones in there and when my mom ordered the chicken, it was extremely dry as if it was microwaved. We will never return again…

Food for the most part was good BUT, the meat on the nacho platter tasted old. Waitress was nice and ver helpful. Portions were plenty.

Good Mexican food! I’ve been looking for a nice place with authentic Mexican food for a while, and I finally found it! The tacos were delicious! I had the carnitas, lengua and chorizo and they were all good! The kids loved the carne asada tacos and burrito. Their enchiladas were tasty, and the flautas were good too. The décor is kind of bland, but it’s nice and clean, looks like it was a diner in its former life, which is not a bad thing at all considering some of the more«divey» places in the area. Overall a very enjoyable meal, I will definitely be back.

First i did not think the price of the food was bad. It was like $ 9 for a burrito which is the going rate. I had the chorizio burrito which was good and authentic Mexican not like Chipoltle or other chain Mexican places. The free chips were above average and the salsa was chunky and very good. They also have free avacado/guacamole dip which is not chunky but had a nice flavor. It was pretty good and when my daughter fell down and cried, the waitress gave her a free candy which was really nice. She also gave a candy to another little boy at a different table so he would be happy too. It is a little bright in there that my only.

This was the second time my husband and I enjoyed this New Mexican restaurant and for the second time we were not disappointed. As soon as you are seated chips two kinds of salsa are brought to the table. One was a pico that had a nice kick to it. the other was a avocado and tomatillo that I loved so much I almost licked the bowl until our server brought more to our table, with more chips, at no extra cost. Since we filled up on chips and beer.(You can bring your own and they supplied frosted mugs) we skipped an appetizer but the Nachos at the next table looked great and from the sounds coming from that table I’m sure they were. My husband had mole poblano and declared it delicious. I was not feeling adventurous so went for the soft tacos. Our server. who I believe was the owners daughter. let me try 3 different ones. pork. chicken and beef with a side of black beans. All were very tasty. The only negative for me was that the TV volume was turned up competing with the music being played and the lights in the restaurant are always way to bright. making the atmosphere lacking. Putting that aside .this is our new go to place for authentic mexican food.

Prices need to be lowered. There are too many really good authentic Mexican food restaurants in central jersey to justify paying more for lower quality cuisine. Both me and my boyfriends entrees were supposed to come with rice and beans. Neither of us ended up receiving it. The salsa is soupy liquid with absolutely no chunks of tomato onion or cilantro in it, which is weird. My chimichanga was not deep fried, rather lightly pan fried on each side, which isn’t really a chimichanga at all. It had no crunch, I was disappointed. When I asked about desserts the waitress told me they were out of everything, which is hard to believe because there were only two other tables in the place so i can’t imagine they sold very many of them. I hope this place turns around and shapes up, I was really excited to see authentic Mexican coming into town.

Was excited this place opened down the street it took forever. Looked like a dismal restaurant inside, would have thought they would have spiced it up with all that time it took to open. Nothing authentic about the place. Where was the hokey religious stuff ?? Where was the salsa music? The silence was awkward. No hot sauce on table !! What ??? Salsa green and red both were liquid. Chips were ok. There was no pico de gallo. Ordered burrito al pastor. Was small given the price. Wasn’t served a side. It was eight o clock on a Friday night and they weren’t sure if they should seat people who we’re coming in. Might go back if they fix a lot of things but don’t see it lasting unfortunately. I felt let down and lied too because it just didn’t feel authentic. It’s a shame but I’ll continue to drive the extra ten minutes to englishtown to get Cholula or cinco in Brunswick

I went there yesterday after wanting to try it for a few weeks. My expectations were exceeded. The portions were bigger than those that I’ve had at comparable Mexican establishments. The food was fresh and tasty. The pricing was exceptionally reasonable. The service was jovial. I overheard other patrons in the restaurant praise the food(especially the pico de gallo and other salsa). If you want quality Mexican food, go to Mi Familia.

Best Mexican restaurant around. Food is fresh. Guacamole is really good. They will modify the menu to your needs. I highly recommend it. After living out west there are very few real Mexican restaurants in the east. This is an excellent one. Food takes a little longer than a fast food place but that’s because they make everything fresh. 10 months later I am even more convinced this is the best Mexican restaurant around. Salsa verde with avocado is fresh and outstanding. I love the pico de gallo here. Great place.
