This place is a solid dive bar. It’s dimly lit, it’s got good music, they have good bands play, and they have their fair share of crusty characters. This is a place where you can find interesting people and possibly interesting conversation. It can get a little busy on live music nights. There’s also spelling bee contests on Monday, I haven’t been but they sound fun. No frills, no airs, just a solid bar that offers great rotating drafts and liquor. You get what you see.

i was a little faded when i showed up, so it’s all a little blurry — my amtrak from kings station in seattle(en route to glacier two states away) had left the station just two minutes behind schedule but with onboard crew bestowed with a competitive stream we’d arrived about an hour before expected. good fortune at first glance, but the second half of the eastbound empire builder originates in pdx & with a coupled delay of mechanical problems and ice over the southern tracks, we were looking at a four-hour delay, i think everybody on the train kept saying«i can’t believe this», even if they were sitting by themselves to me, it didn’t seem that long, but you know how time zones and jetlag & seasonal progression can screw with your sense of things, and this loudmouth drunk in the seat next to me had given me a bit of grey goose & a pop of cool glass, cold outside wound up here with a coupla norms from the train, late twentysomething to old — maybe i should’ve asked for their own Unilocal, surely they had them? all they could talk about were the best enchilada joints in tacoma & the seattle bistros to avoid … i think this establishment was our second? third? stop after leaving the station, the talk was boring me & i couldn’t stretch it’s all about the moment! my expectations tempered when the bartender at the sukiyaki inn down the street didn’t know what a dark & stormy was & then only had schweppes on the ginger front! so i just ordered a cheap rum drunk at the resident maestra’s discretion(she was really friendly, too!); it tasted about like you’d expect but was strong for the price, which was two bucks less than sukiyaki(which only seems to have a listing on here for the restaurant portion of the conglomerate, which seems okay, so it seems like i shouldn’t taint it with my jittery negativity for real, i’m fine with simple shit in my cup so long as it gnaws at my physical balance, not that of my bank account the jukebox was pretty good, i can’t remember anything remotely modern save for a radiohead & a modest mouse cd, if you can really call that kind of music modern with a straight face anymore, Ha ha Ha, but these machines being up-to-date is a true rarity, and it’s always a mood thing, and i’m usually in the mood for 80’s new wave or at least receptive to it … they had some good funk, disco, odds&ends, i remember there was one cd that surprised me in its presence enough to prompt exclamation now i don’t remember what it was at this point i wouldn’t say that everyone there was gold, or even silver, but there were a few interesting looking subgroups i ended up chatting with, our small talk & travelogues were at least six million times more enjoyable than anything my fellow train folk were saying smoked a nat with my last brief conversational sphere, i think they had a pack too walked back to the train, slept well, well enough

There were more beards and beanies in one room than I thought possible, and out of 50 or so customers, it didn’t look as if anyone had taken a shower in the past 72 hours. If you’re feeling too fancy for an authentic«derelicte» atmosphere, you should probably skip it, but I had a lot of fun. There was good live music, which always improves the atmosphere, and the drinks were strong and cheap. Truly Dive Done Right.

Went in a few weeks ago and only had my tribal Id on me and the bartender was rude and tried to tell me she couldn’t accept it because all tribes were affiliated? I showed her my bartending license witch clearly had my name from the tribal Id and birthday she still wouldn’t accept and i explained to her I bartend down the street… she still wouldn’t accept I then told her she wasnt a very good bartender because tribal id’s are federally reconized peices of identification(I mean I can get into Canada if I wanted with it.) She then continued to tell me she had been bartending for 10 years so she should know.

Awesome place, good beer, great music, and as a bonus, the bartender looks like Milton from office space.

Wait staff can’t handle orders more than a pbr or well mixed drink. Clarify your charges before you get committed to over paying.

Little dive bar w/a few good Brewskies on tap… unique upstairs too. I didn’t eat here but it looks like they have a brief menu at least. It’s quite economical, not expensive at all

Good dive bar — great prices but pretty much the same as some other places in the area. $ 1 PBRs is a great touch — again they do the same at some other local places. This place has lots of locals attracted by cheap drinks.

$ 1PBR’s Sundays and Wednesdays clinches the 5-star rating and of course there are other wonderful selections of beers and other drinks. A nice cross-section of people as well as very cool and eclectic décor. Also has live music. One of Spokane’s cooler dives!

Mootsy’s is a filthy Spokane dive bar, but it’s OUR filthy Spokane dive bar. And we love it. This is a dive bar, no doubt about it. No food, no bartenders dancing on the bar. Get over it, drink beer, and make fun of the douchers that are afraid of people with tattoos.

The bartenders are great, the drinks are stiff, the prices are low, Mootsy’s is my favorite dive in town. My friends and I have had lots of good times here and there are always cool people to talk to. Plus it’s right across from the Satellite for a perfect transition from late night to morning ;)

Loved it! It was a hole in the wall place and loved it. Live band Thursday night. It was loud as hell but still had a blast. Had a great selection of beer. Loved the crowd, and as another poster rated it is full of locals. And that is the shit! The locals make a place not some college kids that have no idea. If you get a chance drink a Koa Stout

I’ve seen Mootsy’s all my life and it seemed like a bit of a trashy place until I first stumbled in. It was a Wednesday and they had $ 1 PBRs, an open pool table next to a very decent jukebox. The gin and tonics are stiff, along with the other drinks. They’ve got 8 – 10 beers on tap, for decent prices. Mootsy’s looks like a quintessential downtown bar, a little dirty(just enough to be fun), dark and with interesting but not intelligent décor. There is only one pool table so it can get boring after a while, but it’s the perfect place to stop by on a night of bar hopping. Plus there is a delicious taco truck right across the street that is open late Thursday-Saturday.

It’s dirty, it’s loud, it attracts the locals, should I go on? We came here because a guy we just met, who just moved into town, met a neighbor doing laundry. Said neighbor is in a band and was playing tonight. Also, this random guy and I had mutual friends, so it was a good group of us. We got to meet the group playing, sit up on a couch on top of a pool table. Considering how tall everyone in this city seems to be, that was perfect for me. This isn’t the place to go when you want to talk to people. It seemed like they have a good selection of booze, beer and hard liquor(I feel like I need to specify this in Washington). Parallel park in the street. It’s Downtown so it’s kind of hard to find parking… and it was a Wednesday night. Lastly, don’t leave any valuables in your car, one of our friends’ car got broken into and had some things stolen :(

Stiff cheap drinks and decent live music. A bit on the cramped side depending on the night, but well worth the visit. The owner is a pretty chill guy and gave me a ride one drunken night(and hey, I’m a dude) so this place is getting a 5.

Mootsy’s is a wonderful hole in the wall. Strong drinks at a cheap price. Great crowd for a Spokane dive bar. Great music on weekends, which sometimes includes the up and coming touring act. At one point in time they did poetry readings, but not sure if that is still happening. Become enlightenend at Mootsy’s!

5 stars solely on the price — $ 4 for a jack and diet AND a pbr Deep in the heart of downtown, Mootsy’s is a must! Brush up on the Bach if you want to entertain the crowd, there’s a piano right by the bar
