I was out and about and decided to stop into S. S. Beryl. I was greeted immediately with friendly staff member. I had not frequented this spot since 1996. There were some real changes. I could say some real improvements at that. Although my server’s name was Haley, each time another staff member walked by me, they asked how I was, or how my food tasted… did I need anything… It was a nice thing to see. The menu is not extensive, so they have cut the menu down… which is not disappointing. I feel in this establishment, they have all that is needed… great steaks and great seafood choices, and on Friday and Saturday night they have prime rib. I sat near a pass through for the servers, and each dish that passed me… well I was jealous of each plate that went out. I thought… man, I wish I had ordered that… and the jealousy did not come from the fact I was not enjoying my own food, as it was done perfectly. The staff… well, Haley was amazing! I also was able to get the name of Steve who was able to chat with me while he was getting drinks for his table from the lounge where I was sitting. I also was able to speak to the manager, Stacy, in which I witnessed making rounds to all of the tables to check the satisfaction of all of the guest that were dining. There were two other staff that were also very friendly and kind, yet I did not get their names. Décor was cool retro nautical. The lighting was dim, yet not too dim… and light music was playing in the background. It was classic rock, soft classic rock… songs everyone knows! There were four televisions in the lounge, and yes, I counted. The volume was low and on sports channels. Food… each thing I ordered was AMAZING! That is what I thought of as I ate… not an over abundant menu which makes it harder to choose from. What they have on the menu seems as if they had mastered. I would rather have 25 choices knowing whichever one I choose is going to be good, that have 100 choices knowing all 100 will be standard and not perfected. So my choice… Prime Rib… now let me tell you, they have three sizes of prime rib. I opted for the medium size… If that was the medium size, I can’t imagine what the larger portion would have been as mine was HUGE! I told my server I wanted it as rare as they had it. She brought me my salad, and I heard her back in the kitchen telling the cooks I wanted the rarest piece that they had… it was nice to see that not only did she take my order correctly, but she was following through, not just putting my order in the computer, but also running and reminding the cooks… That is above and beyond when it comes to service… she had already let them know on my ticket, but made sure they saw and understood what I had wanted. I appreciate those extra steps in wowing the guest, and that is what they did. I know that I had a choice of several things with my entrée… I think baked potato, au gratin potatoes, and I am drawing a blank on the rest. To find a restaurant that serves au gratin potatoes… now we’re talking and that is so rare in finding in any establishment. It was very refreshing. Out of habit, I ordered a baked potato. I always eat baked potato with steaks and prime rib, yet, next time I will walk on the wild side and order the potatoes au gratin. I finished my meal with a slice of mud pie… aka… oh my goodness does it get any better! They also feature burnt cream aka crème brûlée… which is what I am going to order next time, however not as a dessert but I am going to go wild and order it as an appetizer and as dessert as well… I was looking through their wine and drink list. They have a great selection of wine. They also have $ 4 crown royal, no matter how you order it… What I also noticed is people were relaxed and the atmosphere was very laid back and comfortable. You didn’t see a bunch of guests on their phones texting or chatting like you do in so many establishments, but rather a lot of guests loving each others company in a relaxing place. I think that the lights being turned down, and the light music in the background lends to that atmosphere. If you get a chance to go in and see the renovations they have made, or the new menu, I think you would be wise. The hard work they put forth in making it enjoyable to all. I will be back. Seafood… the other seafood chain in town would not hold a light to theirs. Glad I went and am going to have to go back and taste each of their dishes, one by one… but the entrée will have to wait until I eat my appetizer of crème brûlée. Just about a block north of Francis and Wall…

Wow we have been coming here for 30 years. The change in ownership has brought changes to the décor and the menu. The changes have been significant. Growing pains, yes, but the results are amazing. I had cast iron fried chicken and my husband had the rib eye. Both were amazing. The sides from the beautiful fresh greens salad to the crisp French fries were awesome.

Five stars for five star flavor. We went to the Beryl last night for the first time and it was also Inlander Restaurant week. The items on the 3 course menu for 29.00 were all really tasty. The Calamari steak strips and steak bites were both tender and very well seasoned. They gave us some really good house made chowder and bread to start, and I tried their local Huckleberry Lemon Drop martini and thought it was very good. My guys had the Top Sirloin and I got the seasonal fish which was Mahi-Mahi and cooked and seasoned perfectly. All the sides were very good and deserts were too. The portions were very generous and there was nothing to fault. The restaurant is your old charming throwback lounge and steakhouse, done in a nautical theme. We will be going back soon.

I reviewed this prior to the new buyers and now wanted to see what changes had been made. The restaurant seems a little brighter inside — and that was needed. Went there for lunch and the menu has changed some but in my opinion $ 20 for lunch, drink and tip is to much. I had the steak sandwich — the steak was prepared to my liking and I took half of it home. I have to say that I have been at another restaurant that the owners have — Morty’s on the south hill and I was hoping the lunch menu would have some of the same type items — not so. Others in the party had seafood and liked it, also the salads were huge and looked really good. At the prices of $ 12 – 14 for most offerings this seems too much for lunch, and because of that I will probably not go back for lunch. Our table was the only people there at 1:00 pm. I wish them well but still feel there will need to be some other changes too. The service was very good — she checked on us frequently and was not intrusive.

This place is under new ownership! I ordered fish and chips they came out greasy and loaded with batter! Gone are the home made fries replaced by less than average pre made frozen. Prices are also higher than previously. I told the waitress they should go back to old way. She seemed very sorry and agreed

Started off in the lounge. Great ambience. Quiet, adult, can hear your friends talk kinda place. Best martini I’ve ever had that I didn’t make myself. Moved into the dining room. It’s pretty dark in there. For starters, my friend and I shared raw oysters on the shell and our wives shared potato skins. The oysters were the freshest I’ve had in a very long time. The potato skins were ok, according to my wife. Because she knew they were sharing, the server brought out separate sour creams. The service was perfect. Our server was only around when we needed her. Never rushed. I ordered the Captain’s Plate with a baked potato and my wife had the Filet Mignon with red potatoes. The baked potato was really good and the sea food was fresh and delicious. My wife reports that the filet was cooked exactly how she liked it and that the red potatoes were great. We’ll definitely be going back.

Have been driving by this place since I moved here, about two years ago. Dining room has a 1970’s Nautical theme, the wait staff was very friendly. The food was OK, french fries were very good. I think I was more into the décor of the place then anything. They do offer breakfast on the weekends, I will prob check it out.

This restaurant has been a family favorite for years, and the«go-to» place for special dinners. In fact, I proposed to my wife here. The décor is very comfortable, the food is wonderful, and the service is always great! My only hesitation in writing this review is that the secret will get out, and it will be more difficult to make a reservation!

I found a gem in my neighborhood. The irony is that it has been there for decades and I have not heard about it. S S Beryl is a place that, unbeknownst to me, has been serving FRESH seafood for decades. As a born and bred New Englander, I have been often disappointed by the claims of other local seafood restaurants. However, I had my first really good New England clam chowder at S S Beryl last week. It was creamy and buttery and the clams were wonderfully tender. Then I ordered sauteed scallops which to my delight were perfectly cooked. In short, the seafood was fresh, delicious, perfectly handled and delivered by efficient and friendly waitstaff. I will be back — often. Caveat: stay away from the NY cheesecake.

This is one of my favorite places in Spokane! The atmosphere is quiet and calming. The food is great! The service is always just right. It is a bit out of the way for me so I often forget about it but so do others and thus… it is never so packed with people that you can’t get in or it becomes noisy. One of the best SECRETS inthe Spokane dining experiance!

I’ve been to this restaurant so many times. Food: Always good, their Seafood fresh. I have tried most of their dishes. Some are excellent and some are good. I ordered different dish every time we go there, and I have always been satisfied. Drink: Good — it’s worth it. Service: Always good to excellent. Atmosphere: Nice, quiet and they have outdoor patio in the summer.
