Visited late February 2016: My grandparents have lived in the area for years and I’ve been told often by them and other locals that this was the place to go for good food in Sparta — they were all correct. I’d had a craving for oysters for several days and was delighted that Brown’s had them on the menu(albeit sceptical as I live at the beach, and this place is in the mountains). I ordered a combination plate with oysters, scallops, and shrimp. A mountain of food appeared in front of me in expedient fashion. I’m a big eater, but even my bottomless pit had trouble taking it all in. The service was great too! My only complaint was that I waited so long to come — that and you do have to drive through the main part of town to find the place. But hey, it was worth it in the end! Go here, eat well, leave happy!

I have family that live in Sparta, NC, and whenever I come to visit, I HAVE to stop by Brown’s! This establishment is top notch when it comes to GOODFOOD, SERVICE, and CLEANLINESS. This past Thanksgiving, I was in Sparta and decided to take my Auntie and Cousin to breakfast. I was the greedy one and ordered the Hungry Man’s breakfast. The picture was worth a thousand words! Grits, scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes!!! All, were to die for! The service was also impeccable! Everyone is so friendly, courteous, and attentive that you feel like you’re dining at your family’s house! Love this place!!!

«Country» cooking with and excellent selection of meats and vegetables. Probably best to join them for lunch as our dinner seemed to be left over from lunch. Food is tasty enough and an ample serving. Wait staff was very courteous and friendly. Had a piece of butterscotch pie that was very disappointing.

We were passing though Sparta and the superintendent of the Parkway recommended this place. He wasn’t wrong. We ate dinner there, nothing grand, but real good home cooking. I had fried whiting with stewed apples and mashed potatoes. My lady friend had stuffed peppers. Both were really good. We went back for breakfast. Again, nothing fancy, but good grits, eggs, sausage and gravy that didn’t need ‘doctoring’ with pepper. Top all that off with great service and you’ve got a winner. Seems all the locals know about it, so this is just for the passing through crowd.
