Safeway Food & Drug

Typically I love Safeway, they have an amazing bakery and produce section. When I needed to special order they did their best to help me. However I had a bad experience yesterday and left upset, this morning the store manager Robert personally called me to fix the problem. I was so impressed and appreciative by his promptness, desire and guarantee that my experience would be corrected. Many stores see you only as a dollar sign, Safeway genuinely cares and treats it’s customers with respect. I won’t forget their devotion to maintaining a great store.

They must have horrible Management style for the employees to be like that
But, the price problem is rampant at every Safeway I have been to.

This Safeway is convenient for me and has everything. Inside they have a Starbucks, which is for this momma a necessity before shopping. The bakery always makes really delicious desserts. I brought home a Dutch Apple pie for thanksgiving and it was huge hit. I have yet to try and fresh baked breads, but I’m positive they won’t disappoint. What was surprising to me was that they were open on Thanksgiving day. I felt bad that the employees had to work on that day, but I was very thankful for I had forgotten to buy fresh green beans and bacon for our dinner. Like Raleys, Safeway has a pretty wide variety of wholistic, organic food which I really like because I’m trying to eat healthier and smarter. I think that the lay out can be a tad confusing at first, at least it was for me. They also have a pharmacy located in the back of the store.

First time turkey meal buyer. Absolutely disgusted. The turkey was raw when it was supposed to be fully cooked. Bloody n slimey and plain disgusting. Ruined Thanksgiving and can never get that day back.

I really like this Safeway. It is Safeway so the prices are a little higher than the Walmarts of the world. I don’t really mind to avoid the crowds and other things Walmart brings. I want to particularly address the florist in the store. They are always great. Every year when I wait to the last second to get a gift they personally help me put something together and make it perfect. And you might think a florist in a grocery store might be lacking but this is not the case. I have yet to be disappointed there. You won’t either I’d be willing to bet.

I try really hard not to shop at this store unless I absolutely have to even though it’s only a block away from where I live.
First off, the majority of their prices are pretty ridiculous. What a box of granola bars costs (full price) at Smiths or Target is going to be the sale price at Safeway. Some of their stuff I don’t really mind paying a little more for, such as their meat or produce. They tend to have slightly higher quality items in those areas than I find at other stores, but not always. They also do have a lot of things that I haven’t been able to find at other stores, so is one small glimmer of light in their favor.
Unfortunately they seem to be out of things a lot. It can be really annoying when they’re the only store I know that carries something I like and I have to wait a week or more for them to restock it.
But, the biggest problem I have with this store is their employees. I can count the number of friendly employees on one hand, and I wouldn’t even need all 5 fingers. Most of the cashiers are so incredibly rude, and the people who bag the groceries are so slow. At night, they put a wet floor cone in front of the lane they keep open and set some stupid little squeaky toy on top that you’re supposed to squeeze to get someone to check you out. Most of the time, I end up standing up there for 5 – 10 minutes before anyone hears it or notices that I’m there. I’ve had employees walk right by me and just leave me standing there waiting. The people in produce are always blocking the aisles and the food, and they act like it’s an inconvenience to them when you need to get to something that they’re blocking.
I wouldn’t mind paying a little extra for the convenience of shopping here, but the horrible customer service has made it so that 9 times out 10 I will gladly drive 3 – 4 times the distance and buy lesser quality items just so I don’t have to deal with the people who work here.

Safeway is an awesome store. Lots of choices and always clean and well stocked. The employees are friendly and the bathrooms are usually clean which is a bonus in my book.
They have an amazing wine section and I love that they have an olive bar in their deli area. YUM!
The only complaint I have is their prices are so ridiculous. I usually only stop here if I need something that is not available at Walmart grocery or Winco.
The parking lot here is pretty chaotic too. There are always a ton of cars zipping around so watch out when driving through there.

We are club card holders and my family does almost all of our shopping at Safeway. We usually fill our cart and while we are at checkout my wife pays and I take my daughter over to the floral dept for a complimentary balloon. (Kids love Balloons) Well the last time we were there the clerk at the floral deck decided to start an argument with me telling me they don’t give out free balloons, they have never given out free balloons and went as far as to ask me if I was from California because she heard that they do it there and if I wanted a free balloon that I should shop there. Way to go Safeway, way to go. Its alway awesome to break a 3 year old girls heart over a $.10 piece of inflatable rubber.
Don’t be so cheap.
