The cinemark theatre used to be the only sheriff in town. Now there is the Galaxy. Cinemark needs to step there game up to compete with Galaxy. You can see a movie at both places and the projection and sound are good at cinemark. The popcorn and soda are good to. What is lacking is customer service. That is part of the experience of going to the movies. There competitor greets you with a smile, asks how you are doing, walks you to your seat and treats you like family. Here, you are herded in like sheep, you get the feeling that you are lucky that they are showing the film you want at the time you want. When we bought popcorn and soda we were hassled over a senior discount. When we were leaving, the employee ticket taker watched us struggle to open the door. The place is a ghost town. Like I said before, it is all about the experience.

Growing up, I can remember going to the movies with Grandma. Spending the afternoon at the theater was just about the best outing I could imagine. It always involved going out to lunch or dinner, we always got a trip to the concession counter to score some sweet snacks, and it was always an all day affair, mainly because Grandma had mastered the art of theater hopping! That’s right. We’d buy a ticket for one movie, and she knew which other movies were playing just after and would sneak us right in for a double feature! But movie theaters seem to be a dying breed these days. It had been sometime since Id been in a «regular» movie theater. With the opening of the luxury theater nearby, it’s the only place I’ve gone to see a movie since. The reclining seats, upgraded concession, serious sound and overall comfort make for an excellent experience that doesn’t compare with the traditional theater. So walking in here I wasn’t sure what to expect. We were there to see Inside Out with some friends, and the movie sounded cute so I was excited. I’m a sucker for the animated flicks. The box office folks were nice and got us our tickets quickly. We’d just eaten at Great Basin, so I skipped the concession and went to the theater. It was large and only had two other people in it. :(We had our pick of the seats, so we got some prime viewing. The picture quality was great, and so was the sound, but the seat itself felt tired and springy. All in all it was a good experience, but it’s hard to compete with a recliner. With the rising prices of tickets these days, theaters have to do more to earn the business, and improving the quality of the overall theater experience is a great investment upfront that pays off in the long run. I can’t really imagine seeing a movie any other way anymore.
