This place is a excellent small spot, I’ve ordered the three meats with 2 sides and needless to say everything was beyond my expectations especially the pull pork. Keep up the great work

If you’re looking for good BBQ while in Southport, this is the place. I had the jumbo BBQ sandwich & my husband had the brisket plate. Mine was good and he said his was good. I got mac & cheese for a side and it was also very good. Definitely will be coming back here.

Best Barbecue south of the Greenville area. The meat speaks for itself. They have a selection of sauces for you to try. Lexington style, Eastern style or even a sweet ketchup based sauce. Southport Smoke House has become a place I go to at least once a week and I live in North Myrtle Beach! It’s well worth the trip.

Very surprised to have this good BBQ in southport. Can’t wait to try other items other that a sandwhich. I wasn’t going all in til I checked it out. Coming back soon for sure. The prices are very reasonable. Seems like owners ate very nice and helpful. We like the music too. Hard to beat.

Brisket bar-b-q was exceptional. Lots of different home made sauces. Small casual place run by what appeared to be a very friendly family. I would highly recommend if looking for a good bar-b-q meal.

Called this place up on a lark as we were headed to some thirst-quenching suds at Check Six Brewing(see my very positive review on this wonderful brewery!) Had no idea what to order, but the friendly gal on the phone gave us some recommendations. By the time we arrived, everything was coming out fresh and getting packaged to go. The extremely owner was directing the show and gave us a few items to try that we hadn’t ordered– nice! It seems to be a family run business because all the employees were very knowledgable and committed to our happiness. We grabbed the smoky goodness and went merrily on our way, literally salivating while driving the l-o-n-g 4 miles to Check Six! Once there, we realized we had struck the smokey BBQ motherland! This food was fantastic from the chicken to the sausage then the brisket and the beans on to fries then back around again! The four of us pretty much gorged ourselves for about $ 80. This might seem a bit pricey, but we had a massive volume of delicious food which was required due to the hours of driving ahead of us without the necessity of stopping. With the marvelous suds we enjoyed at Check Six, it was time well spent!

I’m just as sorry as I can be but I have to give the Smokehouse 2 stars. My wife and I both ordered the 2 meat plate with ¼ chicken and Pork. The chicken was mushy and without that smoked char one would expect. Sad to say the pork was a dark brown so much I thought they gave us brisket. Without the sauce it was extremely bland. The sides were good but you can’t really mess up tater salad and beans. I dare say it all tasted«old» to us. This was our third trip to the Smokehouse, and I’ve cooked ate and studied North Carolina bar-b-Que for 39 years now. I’m sorry but the Bar-b– que house on Oak Island is The one for us. And yes we have tried Big Al’s slam dunk as well. Too pricy for me.

I like brisket and it is truly smoked with real wood. Not like other places which claim to have bbq and it’s cooked with gas and smothered in vinegar. The choices of sauce is great. The staff is friendly. Smells wonderful inside and out. The only drawback is the price. It is a little high. Other than that it’s worth the money.

I got the BBQ and thought my wife’s brisket tasted better. Then I added some of their tangy sauce and BOOM — some of the best BBQ this guy from the north has had. The sides were really good, too. The mac n cheese was homemade and tasted really cheesy. The hush puppies were done perfectly with a nice dipping sauce on the side. Great place to stop before heading over to Bald Head Island.

This place has been owned and changed cuisines by at least 3 different owners since we bought a place in OKI6 years ago, so I hadn’t paid much attention to the most recent changeover. However my oldest son requested we stop there after a trip into Southport and I was pleasantly surprised. I was not expecting the quick, fix your plate as you order set up… that was a little unusual. But I would agree with several previous reviewers that the food is very tasty. The BBQ has a rich smoky flavor and the sides we tried, Mac and cheese, buffalo chips, slaw, and green beans were excellent. My husbands brisket was probably the best entrée… the rest of us ordered BBQ plates. In comparison to the BBQ house nearby on OKI, the food is just as good but I did find the Smokehouse to be more pricey.

Great BBQ, nice staff and good prices. We stopped in hoping to find something quick instead of the long wait down by the riverside restaurants and I’m glad we did.

Our family of 15 came in here and had a great meal — not one complaint from anyone. The ribs were a huge hit. ½ rack is plenty and for some good to share as well. The beans were excellent, banana pudding was delicious and hush puppies were incredible. Highly recommended!

This restaurant makes some really good barbecue. They offer a little bit of everything here, from pulled pork to brisket(both fatty and leaner cuts). I have been here on multiple occasions for work and have tried most of the meats. My favorite one has been the fattier brisket. Very tender and flavorful. The side dishes are pretty good also. I am not particularly fond of the banana pudding though. It tasted like they added some sea salt to the top to cut the sweetness of the pudding. Maybe a little too much sea salt added. The coleslaw, mac and cheese and the beans were well done.

By far the absolutely BESTBBQ we have ever had, and we’ve had it all over the state. The Mac n cheese is to die for. The restaurant is clean, service is friendly… we will be back next time were in town. Don’t forget the banana pudding!!!

We left Wilmington and drove south before heading north to Atlantic Beach. We took the Fort Fisher ferry and timed it so that we could have lunch at Southport Smokehouse. This held a couple of surprises for us. First, it was not NC barbecue. Maybe that is welcome here when pretty much all you can find is NC style. Second, they featured Kreuz Market sausage, so Texas is more the influence. Of all places I would not expect to find that sausage clear over here in this little town on the coast. We both had pulled pork sandwiches. I probably should have sampled the brisket, but was afraid to and did not fly down east to eat Texas brisket. It is normally not remarkable in St Louis and I could not imagine it being better even farther from Texas. I’m sure that was my loss. Anyway, the pulled pork was fairly smoky, medium pull with good flavor. It is a lot like what is common around St Louis and better than most I get at home. It was not close to what we had at Pody’s in Pecos a few weeks earlier. The sandwich could have used a little more meat but tasted good. I ordered one of the spicy sausages. It had the flavor and texture that it should have. It was smoky and juicy. As a downside, I think it was headed towards being spoiled. It was not bad enough to not eat it, but it had that yeasty flavor that sausage and ground meat can get when they start to go. We tried both styles of slaw; red and white. I was not a fan of either. The red is pretty sweet and kind of reminds me of catsup mixed into vinegar. I like vinegar in slaw, but not this sweet, red version. It reminded me of very dilute French dressing. The white was pretty much undressed. It seemed like shredded cabbage with sugar. This time it was Ms T’s turn to like the mac ‘n’ cheese. This is the Velveeta sauce style. Southport Smokehouse seems pretty new, kind of sterile. I think it is run by transplanted Texans, but it did not wow me like most of the places in Texas. I really should have tried brisket. For me the pork flavor saved the meal.
