While visiting friends in Southport, they recommended that we stop by Check Six Brewery for some«cold ones» and entertainment on Saturday evening. I was not disappointed. Very friendly staff. «Wendy’s Blonde Ale» was my favorite brew. The music provided by a local band was awesome! The only thing that’s missing is food. In due time, according to staff I spoke to, they plan to have a kitchen. This is a new brew house and still going through their growing pains. Check Six has a great staff. Bartenders service was great. Place is very clean! «Keep doing, what you are doing! Check Six will be successful. I highly recommend to visit Check Six! :)

Amazing service and a great selection of beer! The bartender was able to engage in conversation with both regulars and tourists, and really went above and beyond as far as service goes!

A great Brewery about 3 miles from the heart of Southport. The beers were excellent and we tried two flights so we could pick our favorites. The prices are standard and were entertained watching the new crowler machine at work. Nice place and easy to talk to staff. We will be back.

If you’re in the Wilmington/Southport/Oak Island area and you like craft beer, you owe it to yourself to stop in here! We were returning from a mini-vacation in the area and stumbled across Check Six after realizing how hungry and THIRSTY we were! Unfortunately they don’t have food, but they allow outside food, which we brought from Southport Smoke House 4 miles south of there!(See my review on that wonderful piece of smoky heaven!) The ambiance is nice with an aviator theme, flat screen TVs, a big wood bar, and several seating areas. We promptly saddled up, ordered a wide spectrum of pints, then returned to our table and devoured everything! The beer was so good, we went up for seconds(or was that thirds… or fourths!) In any case, solid craft beer and a nice vibe with friendly suds-loving folks made for a great experience!

Excellent. I really enjoyed the selection and the friendly staff. I also love a place that sells crowlers. The red baron was my favorite followed by the Irish stout.

Have been here a number of times and enjoyed every experience. All of the beers I have tried were tasty but my favorite is the Double IPA. Only wish they had some food on premises(thus the 4 stars rather than 5) but there is a Quiznos next door and other area eateries will deliver so it works out okay.

Came in to use a Groupon we bought after trying a few of these beers in some local restaurants. The atmosphere is great, the staff are really knowledgeable and friendly, and most importantly, the beers are delicious! They don’t serve food, but they do have a list of local restaurants that will deliver to the brewery. There are also lots of snacks for purchase from another local shop should you prefer those to delivery of a meal. All in all, this place is fantastic and we can’t wait to come back!

Could not hope for a better local brewhouse than Check 6. The selection is diverse typically 12 beers on tap. My favorite is the Harley Pope Imperial Stout. Delicious with vanilla flavor. On the other side of the spectrum the Coconut Hefeweizen is yummy. Pints are $ 4 – 6. Flights 4, 6oz glasses is $ 7. They even offer Growler fills. Bring in your own food or they have snacks like jerky and kangaroo sticks.

Visited the taproom while in the Southport area. The beer was excellent. The atmosphere was great and the bartender was knowledgeable also spoke with some of the brew staff possibly the owner. I wish that the beer was available in the Durham area because it would be a go to brew. Great job guys keep up the good work.

Beer was pretty good. Atmosphere was cool but didn’t have a lot of food. They did let you bring your own food though if you’re hungry. I’ll probably go back when I come back in town again. Check it out!

Great brewery. Who knew that Wilmington had places like this? Several different kinds of beer available; I very much enjoyed the IPA, but not so much with the Hefeweizen or Stouts. They sell snacks to keep you from getting too schnockered and the service was great! You can play darts, take a tour of the place, or just sit around and drink. We sat next to their chemist at the bar, who imparted all kinds of wisdom, which I immediately forgot. Friendly people. I may never get back there, but I’m glad I went.

4.5 stars. We love to visit local breweries on vacation, and this one did not disappoint. The staff was super friendly, even offering the other half a sample of a beer not yet released to the public.(Due out in a couple days — hope it’s available on Saturday before we leave!) They also kept an eye on my water glass, which as the DD is always appreciated. We felt very welcome and appreciated. The bar space is small to average, but comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. I’d have no problem making this my local bar if I didn’t live 3 hours away. The Fox 2 Irish red was intriguing without the over-the-top burn of many chipotle beers. The imperial porter was a wonderful dessert beer, but not for the faint of tolerance. While those were particularly unique, The Wendy’s blonde(steeped over fruit), the IPA, and the stout(tried the non-chocolate version) were all tasty, as well.

Great new brewery in Southport. Discovered it when we saw their truck in the 4th of July parade. Tasting room really well done and the beers are out of this world. Met the owner who is from NJ and a trained chef. Hopes to have food truck soon. Her husband is afighter pilot and thus the WW1 theme to the décor and beer names. Really worth the stop. Will be back soon.

A pleasant surprise between Oak Island and Southport. Check Six is relatively new and already doing a great job. the atmosphere is great with an aviation theme. Four of use split three flights and sampled everything on tap. There wasn’t a bad beer in the lot. The group favorites were the brown ale and especially the Copper Ring American Ale. The chocolate stout was well-done as well. Overall, I was impressed by the obvious care taken to make a wide range of accessible beers. They are also very concerned with taste, The definitely don’t go for the«hops for hops sake» attitude you find with some brewers. Even their hoppy beers were well balanced with other flavors. My hop-hating wife even enjoyed a 40.9IBU beer because the taste was so balanced. We are only here on vacation but definitely wish Check Six luck. We want them to be here when we come back next year.

In town on vacation and visited with my Bother-n-law. I decided to do «Flights» of beers as apposed to only drinking a pint of one or two. I tried 6 of the 10 beers available on tap and like everyone one of them! I’ve never gone to a craft beer bar and had that happen. I can always find one I don’t like. Not here. Inside is very nice and the staff was friendly and informative. One small critique. Try to make an outdoor area of possible. Maybe under a few of those huge trees outside? Well done. Will return and recommend.

So you’re on vacation and you see a new brewery has popped up nearby! When no one’s looking, you high five yourself and punch in the address in your GPS. Check Six is located in a strip mall on the edge of Southport. The taproom is average to small in size, with the brewing section utilizing most of the space. Everything is shiny and new. I tried a flight of four: Brass Ring American Ale, Hat in the Ring IPA, Curtis Jenny Brown Ale and Fox 2 Red Ale. The only one I really cared for or finished was the Brass Ring and I’m an IPA guy currently. The IPA must have been low on IBUs. The Red Ale was super dark, too dark. I also had some sips of the Coconut Hefeweizen and the Cream Ale. Again, nothing really stood out for me. I think these guys have been home brewers since 2006 but are now on the big stage. I wish them luck, it’s a tough business. A new brewery opens about every 16 hours in the US. If they tweak some of their products/recipes they might just have something.

Super cozy and friendly atmosphere. Nice place to have a beer or two. Got the flight that included a blonde, a pale, an ipa, and a Hefeweizen. All were excellent. Really nice selection of freshly brewed stuff. If you like beer, you have to check this place out!

Stopped by Check Six after a day in Southport to play trivia and it was awesome! My boyfriend and I got 2 flights to split, the Porter is the BEST! The trivia host was hilarious and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. The Porter was so good that we decided to stop one last time before leaving. I will definitely be returning, with my growler, the next time we are in Southport! Editing review — the staff & porter are still awesome! The Dugan’s Chocolate Stout has improved, I can taste the chocolate and it is delicious. And, this time I brought my growler for the Porter. #gobeersnobs

Wow, what an experience. Honestly, they’re the real deal. And we had no idea what to expect, as a group of four craft beer lovers from the Midwest. Friendliest brewing staff I’ve run into in a long time. Gave us a tour on Memorial Day and made us feel so very welcome. Tasty brews(they had 10 on draft at the time) and great vibes overall. Their porter was, by far, the best beer they featured. Rich, creamy and full-bodied. We just couldn’t have had a better experience. Truthfully. We drove from Holden Beach to check it out and were thoroughly impressed with everything Check Six featured. Took home a souvenir glass, too. 5 stars without a doubt. An absolutely must-do if you’re remotely near the Southport area. We’ll be back again soon.

Just what Southport needed. We waited patiently for them to finally open the doors and were not disappointed. Great setting, fun bartenders and great selections of brews. I love that the DD gets free soda
