Captain Jay’s Fish & Chicken

First time at this location and initially I was impressed. It’s a lot cleaner than the other locations and the selection of groceries Is awesome. I order some jumbo shrimp and fries and my boyfriend ordered tilapia and fried mushroom. We placed our order, paid, (when she handed me my receipt, she circled my order number and told me to listen for it) and sat for a bit. Taking longer than expected, I decided to pick my daughter up from school (less than a mile) and swing back by. When I returned to pick up the food, my boyfriend ran in and came back out empty handed. He tells me that our food has been given to someone else and now we have to wait again. At this point I’m pissed (he was going to be running late for work) and not really understanding HOW our order could have possibly been given away when we all have order numbers! At this point, we wait about 5 minutes and I go inside to see how much longer do we have to wait this time. The cashier was so nonchalant about the mix up, while I’m standing there furious. I told her for compensation we’ll need something to drink. I waited another 3 – 5 minutes and she then tells me that my order is up. I then tell her I would like two fruit punches, with an attitude she says «just wait a minute you’ll get your drinks». I said I know, I’m just letting you know which flavor we want! Now I have our food and free drinks, yay! (Not really) The kool aid they sale is like diabetes in a cup! OH AND MY ORDER WAS WRONG! Dare I complain again and have to wait AGAIN because of this ladys’ fuck up for the second time?! This shrimp was fried entirely too hard, we didn’t received the fried mushrooms, instead fried okra that no one eats and the fries were too hard. I understand that they were just trying to fix there initial mistake quickly but don’t mess up the quality of the food in the process! Needless to say, I’ll NEVER return to this location again! Go to one of the older locations! AT LEAST THE OTHER LOCATIONS ACTUALLY USE THE RECEIPT NUMBER AND KNOWS WHO ORDERED WHAT! This location needs to get with the program!

My first review, totally impressed with the quality of food as well as service. The ladies were very helpful and displayed awesome customer service. Very refreshing.

This is my second time here. During our first visit, my husband and I ordered the 2 piece catfish dinner and the 2 piece perch dinner. For one of the dinners we substituted fries for okra, which was a dollar extra. However, it was well worth the extra buck. The fish was fresh well seasoned, and the okra was too! Another plus for Captain Jay’s is the service was good and prompt.

I decided to try this new location on the West Side of Detroit off 8 Mile the other day. After getting past the lemon pepper breading (there was way too much on there) the chicken was surprisingly tender. I was also happy they placed the hot chicken on wax paper instead of on the bottom of the Styrofoam box. One of of their other locations didn’t do that and the chicken melted the Styrofoam. The customer service was actually decent as well. Hopefully it will stay that way.
