Thank you for the cockroach literally smashed on top of my sausages in my delivery order. How bad of a roach problem must there be for one to crawl into a take out container unnoticed, and then be sealed in and sent to a customer? Picture posted of cockroach. My Unilocal account dates back to 2009(just checked), and this is the first review I’ve ever taken the time to write. Worst delivery ever. In response to the helpful owner: «I’m sorry that you have a cockroach problem, but I ordered from nowhere else that evening except for your restaurant. You never asked for a picture when I spoke to you on the phone(and I spoke to a woman), and rather to the contrary, I offered for you to come pick up the disgusting food that you delivered. You never bothered. The picture shows the top of one of your aluminum delivery containers, where you were kind enough to smash a roach. Your customers can feel free to cross check the picture to their order if you’d like to maintain that this isn’t from your restaurant, rather than addressing the issue. To add insult to injury, I was never credited the $ 51.32 refund that I was promised on the phone. Nice business practices.»

Jake’s is one of my favorite spots to visit in BK. Where else can you get all-original sausages made in-house in a fun bar atmosphere. My favorites include the Cubano(Cuban sandwich) sausage, pork banh mi sausage, beef brisket sausage, and duck andouille sausage. Great homemade sides like kimchee and knodel too. Even the original bratwurst is hard to beat, when you have homemade sriracha or sweet banana mustard. In the spring and summer, you can spread out and enjoy the backyard courtyard with picnic tables and outdoor movies. Always a great beer lineup of you just want to meet up with friends and drink. Get to know Amber the bartender, she’s super cute and fun!

This place is the best. I really support the transition that Jake has brought to this cool bar. I began coming here while it was Austrian focused, but am so happy to see the menu expand. Great back yard(w movies and sports… weather permitting), great selection of local alcohol, and the meat is freaking amazing. Jake, Amber, Benny, and Jenny-Jo are the stars of this place. Come in for some amazing craft sausage, watch a TV show with the crowd, get to know the crew… I can’t recommend this place enough. Make sure to ask about any daily specials… and the $ 4 Founders IPA cans can’t be beat! Heads up… The earliest they open mon-thurs is 3pm… Time your day-drinking well.

Great sausage. Excellent service. This Monday just got a lot better. I tried the falafel and Cubano sausage. Slow night, but great music and knowledgeable bartender. Cheers!

A really good dinner and a beer option in the neighborhood. I like the 4 sausage and sides platter to share with a friend. Always a range of creative sausages and lots of variety. Weird little tiny spot with good quality food and lots of beer!

Tasty homemade sausages, nice chill atmosphere and great selection of beverages! As someone who practically lives of chicken sausage, trying Jake’s inventive, house made offerings(chicken and otherwise) was a treat. He creates some winning, unusual favors, even those that don’t knock it out of that park are damn tasty. The non-pickled salads could used a touch more salt, and generally, if there were a few more sides to choose from we would probably be in more regularly. But still amped to try the menu in its entirety…

We had a fantastic experience here. The service is very knowlegable and genuinely helpful, not the fake-for-tips service that is all so common. For starters, they knew the difference between champagne, cava and sparkling wine: a rarity in any bar that is not a wine bar. Nice elaborate beer menu and expert guidance as well. My party of 2 ordered the 5 sausage sampler, which came with plenty of side dishes. We asked the server to pick for us and he did so, and what delicious choices he picked. He told us that he would not tell us which was which until we had tasted them all and had decided blindly what our favorites were. To be honest they were all unique and spectacular. A truly enjoyable night which we will repeat and tell our friends about.

Good beer, wine and whiskey. Great food. Incredibly nice staff. In an area with a lot of bars this is my favorite.

I liked Der Kommissar a lot, but when Jake the chef/owner took over and renamed it Jale’s Handcrafted it was all brought to another level. ALL of the sausages are now made in-house with some creative and unexpected specials always being featured. Some memorable favorites from that specials list are a Cassoulet sausage, Oysters Rockefeller sausage(!), and a Thai sausage. All were fantastic and unexpected. In addition they have an assortment of mustards and sauces to compliment the various styles. All the apps and small plates are great too. I know I’m gushing about this place but it deserves the praise! Did I mention that each person that works there is friendly and full of hospitality too? It’s all true. Also — big shout out to the most overlooked backyard in Brooklyn. On a summer night you can take a stein of refreshing German beer outside to a picnic table amidst the strings of lights and wait for the PA to announce the completion of your meal. Thanks Jake’s!

Came here tonight with my husband. We live a few blocks from the location and love it! We have been here a few times before when it was named Der Kommissar and it is still just as amazing as it was before! The sausages are handmade and so delicious! The Porchetta Sausage is a must have! We will definitely be back soon!

Formerly known as Der Kommissar, the space now known as Jake’s Handcrafted remains one of my favorite spots in South Slope. At least a year before the official name change, Der Komm had been under new management, and, under the auspices of Jake, some changes were instituted. So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodbye to the garden gnomes; the Zweigelt; the Landjäger(inside the Der Bloody or otherwise); Scottie, the bartender; lame game Wednesdays; and the tree that no longer grows in this Brooklyn patio. The carefully curated wines available by the glass remain reasonably priced and are no longer limited to German/Austrian but still hail from the Old World; I enjoyed a lovely glass of La Belle Fleur Viognier for $ 7. The ample beer offerings have remained more or less constant, the original, quirky interior design is intact, and the largely unchanged brunch deal is as hearty as the new staff is gracious.

The people are very nice and all, but the portions are way too small for the price. Literally, the $ 9 brisket sausage looked like half a sausage in half a bun. Probably not going back again unless the prices drop or the portions improve.

Best sausage/German beer bar anywhere! Very friendly and very very great food. We go there every time we are near the area and always leave more than satisfied with everything on the menu. They are always creating new foods and trying new brews. Go check it out!

Formerly Der Kommissar, this is my local, neighborhood go to. The bartender, Amber, makes awesome cocktails(all her own ideas and concoctions) and all the sausages are gluten free and made on site. I’ve tried everything on the menu and you can’t go wrong, though the best by far is the Rueben. It’s sporadically available, but always get it when you can. For drinks the lavender lemonade, cilantro margarita, and fresh cosmo are my favorites, but they have a bunch of beers on tap as well as bottles. Jake’s now has a really good vegan falafel sausage so they cater to everyone. Also, my fiancé has celiac and the whole crew is always super attentive making sure she’s not exposed to gluten, which is huge to me. Really I think this bar is one of the best in the Slope.
