When my cousin first brought me there, I have to be honest, I was a bit hesitant to go in. We walked in and business was a bit slow but there was a friendly server there to tell us to pick any seat we would like. I don’t like how there’s a gigantic wall blocking you when you sit at the bar… The caterpillar maki was delicious, though! A pretty good amount for a reasonable price. The sushi tasted fresh(loved the sauce that came with it) and I will definitely be back for another roll!

Sorry to say I have to update my review of Teryaki Exchange. Went for lunch with my girl, was great the first time many months ago(May), apparently things have changed… for the worse… the place was dirty and dingy, loud mariachi music blaring, and please do not take this the wrong way but having Mexican guys cooking Asian food, with that music blaring was just too much, and the food was no where near as good as the first time. Won’t be back.

I finished work in Knightville at 2:30, hungry. I got as far as the front door of McDonald’s before I thought ‘I can do better’. So off to Teriyaki Exchange just before 3. I get the lunch combo special(11a-3p) which includes one of a dozen entrée options and one each of a few appetizer, rice, soup, and salad options. All for less than $ 8, in a portion that can be stretched into 2 decent meals. It’s a great taste variety for its value. Staff is friendly, and calling in for pickup is hassle free. Utensils, condiments, and fortune cookie were included. There are seldom other customers when I’m there, which is a shame. I’d love it if they did delivery. And there is a nice variety of domestic, international, and Asian beer. glug chomp ahhh

I like to eat asian food that is light and Teriyaki Exchange and changed their menu around since opening. They now offer a Bento Box which is what I order. Teriyaki shrimp, rice, garden salad, soup and an appetizer all on one plate. $ 7.99. Once you order, it takes about 5 minutes to get your food. Hard to beat!

Tried this local spot, hoping it would provide a decent, nearby sushi stop. It did not. Rice was paste-like. Veggies in maki rolls were beyond proper ripeness. Textures and flavors were suspect. Given the bleak, fast food Asian vibe, we should have heeded our instincts to run. Our bad. Thank God for Red’s Dairy Freeze!

Big menu, good prices, and top notch food. The sushi rivaled anything in downtown Portland. I had an alligator roll that rocked. Also got an ordered the chicken Teriyaki which I couldn’t stop eating. Inside its not fancy and on the noisy side, but for the price and the great food, I’ll do noisy no problem. We’ll be back.

Disappointed. There are way better Asian restaurants around. My 13-yr-old son(an adventurous eater) and I went in and sat down for dinner, but our food took so long we asked to have it packed to go after we’d been waiting 40 mins, and it still took 10 more mins before it was ready!(Our meals were extremely straightforward — this should have been very fast & easy.) And it was ultimately very bland. We could have paid the same amount and had a MUCH tastier meal elsewhere. Back in the day when I was waiting tables, we would have ATLEAST partially comp-ed the meal if it had taken even half that long. No so here. The bathrooms are way in the back in kind of a creepy way(you have to go around several corners), and there were no paper towels. The dining room is tiny in a crowded way, not a cozy way. We’ll be choosing someplace else.

Very impressed! Don’t even use Unilocal and just downloaded this and made a user name to give this place great ratings! Kind of a hidden gem! Food was fresh and had a very good presentation. Casual setting inside and clean. Good menu, nice people and friendly service. Don’t let the outside sway you!

I checked out this place in beautiful downtown South Portland, and I was not disappointed. As you can probably imagine from the name of the restaurant, the Teriyaki Chicken is legit and a great value($ 6.99). It was not too salty and had a lot of flavor. Also, it came with a great amount of food for the price. My roommate had the General Tso’s Chicken($ 8.99) and it was a little more spicy than most places make it(which I’m definitely not complaining about). My only gripe about this place is the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the restaurant itself seemed lackluster. When I went there, no one else was there expect for a few cooks who were eating on break after I was served. The place has a lot of decorations, but they seemed to be thrown around in random spots. I would not recommend this place if you’re trying to go somewhere fancy or if you’re trying to impress a date, but it’s a great place to eat a solid meal or get some legit take-out.

This restaurant has a wonderful assortment of Maki rolls that are extremely tasty and affordable. The seaweed salad is delicious and presented on a bed of sliced cucumbers. Excellent local restaurant that I often pick up takeout from.

Great place for sushi! Scallop roll is amazing. There is a long menu-a random assortment that I am sure it tasty, but the sushi is the star. ONCE I cheated on the sushi by ordering pad thai, which was oily and not flavorful, so I think universe was telling me to stay with sushi. Easy to miss location which translates into great prices and plenty of seating. I love this place.

Great food. Eggplant with chicken and shrimp teriyaki both excellent. Prices very good. Atmosphere could be better but an excellent value.

This joint replaced, in my opinion, a jewel of a Phở house. My wife and I were very upset when Phở Hanoi closed but saw an Asian place opening in its spot so we had hoped perhaps it was just changing it’s name or diversifying their menu. As it turns out based on our visit around when they opened — Teriyaki Exchange is an average Chinese food joint that offers a little more variety than most, for example basic and generic sushi rolls. We did not find Phở on the menu or much outside of standard Chinese food and were disappointed with the selection. The food was fine, the atmosphere is nice, but based on our visit we do not intend on returning and looking again for great Phở in the Portland area.
