Snowed in at a hotel near JFK, we ordered Chawla delivery through the Unilocal Eats app based on the high Unilocal reviews. We got the chicken curry and the mutton masala. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize the«full plates» come with the dish only(no rice, etc) so we had a lot of meat and not much else. However, the sauces were flavorful and the portions were generous on both dishes. Both had a little heat behind them, but not so much as to make them unpalatable. Unfortunately, the mutton masala was riddled with bones. Most pieces in the masala had more bone than meat on them, making the dish difficult and dangerous to eat, as little piece of bone splintered off. It’s not noted in the menu that this dish has bones, so buyer beware. The masala preparation was delicious though, so next time I’d get that sauce on a different(and boneless) meat. The order took over an hour to get to us, and they did not update their status through Unilocal Eats for us to know. I understand the long wait times when everyone is trying to order delivery during a snow storm, but at least notify your customers that the wait is going to be closer to 80 minutes instead of 45. When I asked the Unilocaleats app for an update, they responded that they had reached out to the restaurant and had been unable to make contact.

Stumbled upon this place when we were starving. So at first glance this place is bright. As soon as you walk in it smells terrific. The owner i think greeted me and took my order very promptly. And he also suggested some items. Now on to what i ordered… Tandoori Chicken(platter meaning Chicken only) Butter Chicken Combo(with lentils and rice) 2 Veggie Samosas 2 Chicken Samosas Nan Bread Mixed Vegetable Korma(I believe, he suggested and i said yes :-)) 1 Mango Lassi. The Tandoori Chicken was sooooo fresh and tasty. The Butter Chicken was also good, just wished there was more chicken. The Samosas were fresh and light not greasy at all. Nan Bread is Nan Bread although my piece was a little burned :-/ The Korma was mild to order but so tasty. Great with the Nan Bread and lastly the Mango Lassi… flavorful. :-) This place seems to be a family owned Restaurant. Clean, friendly and very yummy. Looking forward to returning to try new things.

I came I here one day on my break from work. I had the tikka masala w butter naan and it was very good! Reminds me of the food I had while in India so I have to say it’s pretty authentic. If you are near JFK come check it out! It’s good stuff.

Went here with my father and I would have to say don’t judge a book by its cover. The place looks a little different than what I’m typically used to when going for Indian but we decided to give it a go after the reviews. The food has perfect flavor although it comes to you on a plastic plate with a plastic fork. This place is definitely good to try.

We Unilocaled for Indian food in the JFK-vicinity and chanced upon Chawla’s. And we are so thrilled to have discovered this place! This nondescript-looking restaurant dishes out some of the most mouth-watering authentic North Indian/Punjabi style meals I’ve had in NYC/NJ. We tried the Chicken Achari tikka combo meal with a side of Amritsari chole and another combo platter of the Butter chicken(again with the chole). The chole(chickpea gravy) that Chawla’s makes has to be the best I’ve had. It rivals home cooked ones I’ve relished in friends’ homes back in Delhi and Punjab. It was so, so good. The traditional way to making this dish is by using black spices(whole cloves, cardamom, peppercorn etc.), chaat masala(a special spice powder to give it the tanginess), but what sets it apart is the black tea bags or black tea water that’s used for the broth. Unlike regular Indian restaurants, which serve the common, tomato-y version of this dish, the Amritsari chole is really a class apart when done well — and Chawla’s does it genuinely well. It was spiced just right and had the sharpness this dish needs without being too spicy to drown out the natural flavor of the chickpeas. Between the two chicken dishes, the chicken achari tikka got our vote. The chicken pieces were succulent and the meat was grilled well imparting the smoky flavor. The sauce in the butter chicken was delicious… creamy and smooth, but the chicken pieces didn’t taste too fresh. We also got a side of the black daal(daal makhni) and chicken biryani to go. The daal was very flavorful and well-made… could easily go back for more. Coming to the biryani — it was aromatic and the flavors of the rice with the meat came together well. One of the better versions of the dish I’ve had in a really long time. Must the add the staff was really wonderful and hospitable — also gave us tons of extra naan with our combo platter. Would love to try their other vegetarian dishes when we go back — they definitely seem to have a slight upper hand over the meat ones. If you’re in the area and craving Indian food, definitely give Chawla’s a shot. One caveat — North Indian cuisine tends to be rich in spices, so pace yourself well!

Best food around. Everything is super fresh. Very clean & it’s a well run establishment! They deliver right to your hotel room & wait time is exactly what they say it will be.

My boss, Laura, wanted to treat her interns(because we are SO special!) Lol to Indian food. She was recommended to Chawlas’ by another colleague. The way Laura described the food she ordered, my mouth started watering! Lol and I saw the menu and ordered a samosa chaat. It was delivered warm and one bite into it, was an explosion of Indian culinary delight! :-) The blend of the spices, yogurt, the samosa and other sweet and tangy ingredients melt in your mouth and there is no need to add extra chutney(sauces/condiments) to the dish. The chole(chickpeas) was cooked perfectly! Not too hard and not too soft. I’m a fan now and can’t wait to try their other delicious menu items!

This is the best Indian food that delivers in this area, but that’s not saying too much. The food is consistently good, and consistently not great, and it’s a little bit on the expensive side. If you want Indian delivery, you should probably order here and cough up the extra money.

the wait is horrendous. The guy gave me raw naan and still took too long. Rice should be included, you shouldnt have to pay extra. I tried to delivery and the lady said they stop doing deliveries for the day, so why is it open then? Food decent but not the service.

I got the chicken Tikka combo which came with Dhal and naan bread. It was very filling and I’d definitely eat here again. The samosas were good, but a little on the greasy side. It was pretty affordable and the gentleman I spoke with over the phone was very kind.

This is a small place near JFK Airport. Me and my friend were really hungry from a 3 hour journey. It was a cold rainy day. We came and ordered Paneer Achari Tikka, Kadai Paneer and Chicken Achari Tikka combo plates. It was really awesome. The combo plate contains Dal Makhani, Salad and Rice/Naan. Usually the free sides won’t taste that good in other restaurants, but here it was exceptionally good. Still wondering why only the 4 star but not 5? Well the Mango Lassi was horrible :)

Great Homely food. Worth the price I paid at least. My trip to NY with family, and a miserable search for Good Indian Food was worth the efforts we put to find out about Chawla’s. Next trip to NY and for sure having food delivery from here

I found this restaurant on Unilocal and since I live near by it was very convenient. The store was very clean and had enough seats to dine in. The man that took my order was very nice and explained meal items as I asked. I ordered the Paneer Tika and got Chicken Tika for my husband. I loved how the food was seasoned and the amount of spice. I picked up the food and just opening up the box made my mouth water. I will order again.

The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because delivery took over an hour. But the food was great and I’ll definitely order from them again! I had the tandoori chicken combo with naan bread and lentils. The chicken was juicy and delicious! The sauce was a tiny bit sweet which I liked. They give a very generous portion of naan bread which was soft and fluffy, also very good. The lentils were cooked perfectly and the sauce had just the right amount of spice that it wasn’t overwhelming.
