We sat down at a bar table at 7:30. Sat for about 10 min. without any staff in sight to serve my husband and I. My husband found a waitress and alerted her to where we were seated and could someone please wait on us. She said they were currently very busy and didn’t assure us anyone would be over to serve us. So we continued to wait and a server walked right by us and didn’t even acknowledge us. We then decided to walk out. The restaurant didn’t seem that busy, so perhaps you were understaffed, but that isn’t any excuse to not be acknowledged. Really disappointed and will not be returning.

Never coming here again. The hours posted say they open at 10am. Showed up with the wife and kids at 10:30. They sat us down, and about 10:50 the waitress informed us they don’t open till 11. She took our orders at 11:05. At 11:20 she brought one of the two coffees we ordered, then she disappeared. At 11:50 after not seeing her or receiving our food, we walked out. I guess they figure they need to one-up the Gaslight in who can have the worst service?

The food is delicious, the menu is nice, and the prices are reasonable, which is why people keep coming back. But on a busy Saturday night the service is terrible. Each time there has been a problem with the order. It’s also extremely noisy, especially when there are large groups of people dining in the restaurant. They have live music in the bar area, but it’s so noisy that unless you’re seated in the bar area, it’s really hard to hear the music.

It’s a little pricey for what it is, but the food and atmosphere are both good. The service is great too.

I wish I could give this place less than one star. This bar/restaurant has so much potential yet every time I come here they fail terribly. The service is embarrassing, especially the bar tenders. Every bar tender I have had is extremely rude and lazy. It’s not that difficult to get someone a draft beer when there are only two other customers in the bar. It shouldn’t taken10 minutes. Also, why is there change on drinks? $ 3.20 for a beer at happy hour but why the $.20??? So strange. Also, while the waitresses are busy looking at their cell phones, customers are waiting more than necessary for their bill. I will never understand this. Don’t you want to give the customers the bill as soon as possible so they can pay you and leave? Great atmosphere but service is what makes or breaks a restaurant and in this case, Ricalton’s is broken. I really WANT to like this place. Please make some changes to save yourselves.

I’ve had dinner, brunch and lunch here since my last review. All were good experience, aside from my MIL’s dish coming out a bit late at brunch, but that wasn’t a huge deal. Tonight I had fish tacos/brussels sprouts and my husband had salmon. We sat by the windows, good music was playing and we enjoyed our beers. The food was great and the service was good as well.

Considering it a college town and a bar pub; what else could I say that hasn’t already been said. The female bar tender was either bored to death or had no personality. She didn’t check on us ever! However she did find time to braid her hair. I guess that counts for something

I don’t know why I come here. Came in just before the«rush». Bartender messed up my order, not a big deal but that is just where it begins. She was in the weeds like the bar was packed and mind you there are 3 total bartenders and a bar back. I got a simple chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was dry as sand paper. I placed the chicken on a separate plate on the edge of the bar just to see if someone was going to ask about it. And every bartender passed me by and never asked about my food. We waited 15 minutes for the check from the time asked. And please let me not forget the bartender who had her long hair out swinging it around and ran her hands through it like she was on the beach for a photoshoot. This place just gets me aggravated. I try so hard to support my town. I’m going to assume the bartenders(2 of them) were in training? I mean never heard of that on a Friday night but hey…

i had the brick oven chicken. holy crap was it amazing! it hit the spot! it had caramelized onions, rosemary, sweet potatoes and bacon too! the sauce it was glazed with was so sweet and salty. dipped my fries in the sauce :) i loved everything about it. chicken was juicy. the skin had a salt and pepper rub which was a bit salty for me but somehow everything just worked. i would order this again. me and my friend split a red velvet cake and it was delicious as well. :)

Why is Ricalton’s rounding up each receipt? The amount of money they are stealing just by rounding up a couple pennies on each bill can potentially be astronomical. This is an illegal and deceptive practice and they will no longer be getting my business.

I have been here before and enjoyed the food and drinks, but today’s experience is very upsetting. My friends and I called this morning to see if they were open today despite the snow storm, and were told they were indeed open and looked forward to seeing us soon. After a long cold walk to the bar, we got there to all of the lights out and doors locked. I understand they likely weren’t getting much business due to the weather, but after telling us they were open it’s terribly rude and unprofessional to close merely 45 minutes later. Very disappointed.

Live band, nice cocktails, nice waiter, good food… no complaints at all. Its more of a place to come drink @ the bar after dinner & listen to the live band afterwards. Its cool.

So I walk in and the place has a really nice vibe. Had a nice bar area and they played really nice lounge music. Later two guys were playing acoustic covers. So that was nice. Now, everything else, meh… The bartenders were not very good. I felt they were not attentive enough to their customers. Maybe they needed another bartender but I feel like they had enough. Alarm also went off, probably burned my friend’s blackened chicken haha. We went back inside and got our food. My salad was good but 1, they forgot my steak so they went back with the salad and got the steak but put it on a separate plate… why is it not on my salad? Haha, anyways the steak was dry. I really like the vibe there but disappointed with the service and food. I will go back to try again and give it another shot.

Ricalton’s offers a lot of choices and it does a pretty good job at all of them. There’s two bars, both welcoming and fun. It’s a great place to have a drink with friends or colleagues. The dining area is a more lively than a restaurant without a bar, but can be romantic and intimate. Then there are private areas(including a bar) that I’ve enjoyed for parties. The staff takes care of you. The wine list is good. The food is far better than bar food, but of course some stuff is hit or miss. I come to Ricalton’s routinely and I haven’t had a bad experience.

Terrific 2nd floor bar. Joe, the barkeep is a very attentive, knowledgeable guy who can keep your buzz going with the appropriate drink based on what you’ve had. Perfect place for a few drinks after a busy day at work. First place I’ve gone to in a while with Lagavulin 16 at the bar. HUGEPOINTSFORTHAT!!! 4 stars only because the place is slightly pricey, even for South Orange.

The following relates to the 2nd level of the restaurant: My wife and I shared a very tasty Crab Salad app(great dressing) then I had Guiness Short Rib(tendah!), she had Salmon special(good, not great). They have a nice Chard there for $ 11(Folie et deux, i think). Noisy at bar but we sat pretty far away. Friday nite. No biggie. Very young waiter but trying. Place seemed well staffed. Never had to wait too long. Not fast though either. This is our second time there, the first time we had a similar experience. Recommend.

This is a decent place. I’ve only been in twice, after 9pm, so my comments are strictly about that time period. On both a Thursday and Saturday night, they had quiet live music in the bar area which was good. The main kitchen closes early, so after 10 you have to eat off the bar menu. That’s not an issue, as the items I had off the bar menu were fairly good. There’s plenty of parking in the back lot — you have to go up a set of stairs to enter the tavern area on the second floor. They don’t have the largest selection of craft beer, but they are not marketing themselves that way, so thats fine. The place was clean and well maintained, including the bathrooms. If you sit at a table in the bar area, note that there doesn’t appear to be table service, you need to place your order at the bar, or, if its not busy, the bartender will come to you to take your order. The staff was friendly both times.

This review has nothing to do with the food. Just the downstairs bar. Small quaint bar with a decent selection of draft beers. They also have darts and a decent crowd. One of the only places to stay open past 10 o’clock during the week.

Who knew? Local tavern turning out great specialty burgers. There are a few burgers on the regular menu but the star of the show are the monthly crafted creations. The«Southern Burger» was ½ pound of Angus beef topped with fried green tomato, pimento cheese and a delicious aioli. Perfect combo!
