I had the hot and sour soup and the bourbon chicken lunch special, all under $ 9.00. Chicken was good and soup was tasty. Will visit again!

I realize numerical rating systems are subjective, but when you go around saying you’re #1 at something, there is an implicit assumption that you’re pretty freakin’ good at whatever you do. The same applies to names of businesses. Unless the name of this place is a reference to their first restaurant in a list of many, which I doubt is the case, I think they are being a bit bold. The only thing #1 about this place for me is that it was the first Chinese food establishment I tried in South Orange since moving here. It’s a small, takeout spot that does by-the-numbers, Americanized Chinese food. I tried their Hunan chicken and hot & sour soup. The chicken dish was pretty meh and not something I would get again, but the soup was decent. Probably more sour than anything, which is not what I expected, but it wasn’t bad. Overall this place is just ok. For a quick, takeout meal that will sate your palate when you get the craving, it’s fine. If you’re expecting to be wowed, I’d go elsewhere.

Came here for a quick Chinese dinner before an event at Seton Hall. Good place, quick service, though the fried rice was somewhat dry. Still, I would def go here again.

Who cares that they don’t deliver? This spot if official for lunch time Chinese food! The pricing and portions are WORTH the walk/drive! In addition the turn around time is great. Love their chicken and broccoli. Card is accepted for orders over $ 10. The flavors are on point and def a must if you need a quick lunch order on south orange ave.

The service at Number One is very quick. I usually have to wait 10 minutes max for my food. There is a lady at the cash register who always gives my friends and I discounts since we are students so I feel happy when I order from Number One. It’s been a while since I’ve ordered food there but their fried chicken is pretty good. I also like getting their milk tea since it is a decent size and fairly priced. The one con is that it does not deliver but I am happy it is walking distance.

Best Chinese food in the area. Something about the rice is different and better than your average Chinese restaurant. They don’t deliver, but it’s worth the effort to go pick up.
