Not my fave RI beach, but it’s a good place to chilax before heading over for lunch at the Mist. It’s right next to a RV park that is pretty packed in to the summer, which I find takes away from the scenery. There is a nice view of Block Island, and it’s small which can be a refreshing way to get away from the big, packed beaches of other parts of South County. If you walk farther it appears that some sections are private. The restroom facilities seemed to be ok from what I remember.

If you are going to go to this beach I recommend the west end of it. There are trailer parks outside the beach and RV’s overlooking the east end. decent waves. Definitely would not go back. I don’t like to feel like I am in a trailer park when I am at the beach. There was also a ton of red algae in the water, ick. There are better beaches nearby. Second Beach in Newport is my fav and Scarborough isn’t bad if you go during the week.

Sun sand and waves South Kingstown Town Beach has over 1,300 feet of sand and water and a fairly large area for parking. One of the things that I enjoy about it is that it never seems very crowded because it’s a bit out of the way and many people head toward other, more accessible beaches. Even though it is a town beach it is open to everyone. Although they do charge for parking during the summer months it’s also a cool place to walk in the winter months when entry is free. One of the great things about the beach is that if you are walking or biking there is never a charge. Makes it a very convenient place to stop for water, a bathroom break or little swim in the ocean when you are biking the south coast of Rhode Island. The beach has a nice boardwalk, picnic area, volleyball court and of course lots of soft sand and cold ocean water. Lots of room to spread out and not be crunched together like on many beaches. On clear days you have nice views of Block Island looming about 12 mile away and it’s always fun to watch the Block Island Ferries going back and forth. South Kingstown Beach is exposed to direct ocean so it can get pretty feisty at times and large waves and occasional rips can make it a challenge for poor swimmers or little kids. However most of the time the waves are large enough to have fun in but not so large that it kills too many people. A nice beach to visit if you prefer seeing ocean and sand rather than hoards of people and cars.

Nice facilities, an excellent picnic area, a rocky shoreline to explore, and a crashing surf that may give novice swimmers a run for their money. Lots of people, but there is plenty of parking and room for all. Like many seaside spots, the weather here can change at the drop of a hat, so check an hour-by-hour forecast before hitting the beach for the day.(A fog suddenly rolled in on the day that I visited, chilling our group from head to toe and making it difficult for us to see one another.) Not the most remarkable beach, but not the worst either.
