A decent alternative to Wally World or Meijer, but being a smaller Indy market, prices are higher. I went here to get the only walleye in town, and paid $ 20 a pound for the privilege, versus $ 10 — $ 14 a pound at Meijer, depending if it’s on sale. The filets from here were enormous, which actually made pan frying a bit of a challenge, but they were delicious.

South Haven is not a large metro area so understandably there’s going to be somewhat of a dearth of markets in town. The WalMart nearby has the normal range of groceries but where Village Market shines is their selection of fresh and frozen seafood(fish, shellfish and yes, frozen sashimi grade tuna!) and premium cuts of meat. Each department had a live person with whom I could consult and all were knowledgeable and helpful. I also found virtually everything I needed in terms of ethnic spices and dressings; most of which were unavailable at WalMart.

Village Market is the specialty grocery store in the South Haven area that has excellent service and interesting items. Walmart may beat them on price but the experience at Walmart is less than pleasant and the help is marginal. There is a Meijer’s coming to town and I expect Village Market to up their game once again because Meiuer’s is a better operation than Walmart but again not as good as Village Market. Absolutely LOVE Village Market! As a local I would much rather go to VM than Walmart anyday. Their meats and produce are so much better than that found at Walmart! Not to mention you even get your groceries carried out for you as well — not very common anymore.

We were very pleased with this store. My husband works for a certain other big box retailer, so we avoid Walmart at all cost(among other reasons). The steaks we bought looked gorgeous and had a flavor to match, they had a large seafood selection, mucho wine, great prices, and the staff was super friendly.

This place might be worthy of another star, but in essence, the place is just your average grocery store. They do have a decent wine selection in back, a separate liquor store up front and a café with wifi. The prices are pretty good, although, i would think that Spartan(the owners of this place) would be a tad less since its not smack dab in the middle of a beach area. The meats from here were actually fantastic, some of the better ‘non-premium’ grocery store meat I have had. They also had a nice selection of marinades and grilling sauces — cheers to that. All in all, this place is going to do you just fine to stock your fridge up for a week(end) in South Haven.

Oh Village Market, how I loved thee, although you are just a spartan store. You are a beacon on vacation, away from the scraggly Wal Mart, laden with day old veggies, no stinky cheese, and absolutely zero wine selection. At least upon walking in, I smelled fresh bread, saw Garden Fresh Gourmet chips, and walked over to the fresh produce area. Thank you for our short relationship. I’ll return for a quickie next time I’m in town!

This is one of the two grocery stores of South Haven. Village Market has much better service, the meat and vegtables are fresher and is all around cheaper than Wal-Marts. Service is also good and even has a check it out yourself machines. They also have a small restaurant and a video rental. Neither have much but is a good price. Close to the store they have their own car wash/gas station/ect.
