I was picking-up my order from Queen Taco and I asked the cashier if they happen to sell hot chocolate or any hot beverages. She said they didn’t; however, she recommended I go over to La Doña Tamaleria for some hot champurrado(i.e., Mexican hot drink made from corn dough, milk, sugar and cinnamon). There were five women hard at work making tamales when I arrived. The cashier was quiet and not very talkative. The exterior of the building is very plain, yellow in color, and signage is not very appealing. Then interior is pretty much the same. Now for the good stuff. I ordered a corn and pork tamale. I also ordered a small champurrado. All three items were very delicious. The tamales were very moist, flavorful, not greasy, and not salty. The champurrado was delicious and was a good accompaniment to the flavorful tamales. The food really makes up for the poor ambience and lack of decorations to this establishment.

My fiancé has brought home Tamales from here a few times now. I usually only eat sweet tamales but they have won me over with the chicken ones as well! So moist and flavorful!

Small whole in the wall. If you are not paying attention you will pass right by it. Pork Tamales: decent tamales but in my opinion need more mole Chicken Tamales: decent tamales but in my opinion they need more mole Cheese/Jalapeños: spicy which I like but the cheese is not what I prefer, kind chewy. Corn Tamales: kind mushy but good taste The tamales overall are ok but what makes the tamales special is the masa. The masa is very fresh, you can taste the freshness. They are good enough for me to go back!

These tamales are delicious! Had a co-worker bring them to our Halloween potluck, so it was the first time for many of us to try them. They are a hit!!! The pork meat tamales had a kick of jalapeño, and the corn ones were AMAZING! This business will have a lot of new clientele after that tasting we had. Definitely worth trying out!

Checked this place out for the first time and in my opinion it’s not bad but I don’t think it’s that great. I ordered 2 tamales de res 2 de Puerco 1 of elote and 1 of queso. The tamales de Puerco threw me off because they were a bit bitter as they add the carrots that they usually offer you to accommodate your tacos(not a fan) the res one was good, not a bad meat to tamale ratio. They have champurado which was pretty good. They also have pineapple and strawberry tamales but that’s only on the weekends. Overall not bad but not great.

Reasonably priced. A dozen tamales for $ 14, but not a place I would return to. The day we went, they had no champurrado. Don’t know if they didn’t have it that day, or if they don’t make it at all. We bought 4 de queso, 4 de puerco, 2 de res, 1 de fresa, and we ordered 1 de piña but they gave it to us de queso instead(an honest mistake). The texture of all the tamales was firm, and the size of each tamal is about 2 inches wide, 4 inches long, and 1 inch in thickness. Except for the one de fresa, the typical sour flavor of the maíz comes through in each tamal(not to be confused with spoiled masa). If you know your masa and tamales, you’ll understand what I mean by sour. But for those of you who don’t, the sour comes from the processing of the masa, which is sometimes prepared with lemon juice(I think, don’t quote me on this). They’re not dry tamales, the masa is actually quite moist, but the meat ones are not saucy enough for my taste and their’s very little meat in them. The ones de queso are like most places, just a piece of cheese in masa, but they do throw in some of those pickled carrot slices mixed in the pickled jalapeño jars. The strawberry one was good. Not too sweet, but don’t smell it because, again, the sourness of the masa will manifest and could change the way you enjoy the tamal. Bottom line, they’re good, but not the flavor of masa I prefer. And for me, the masa IS important.

I was recommended by a friend… their tamales are amazing! I love the corn tamales I haven’t had good corn tamales since I was a kid. This place is great I have been to both locations. I took some to a friend’s birthday gathering and everyone fell in love with them!

Small hole in the wall place but the tamales are the bomb!!! The cheese, corn and pork tamales are the best. All they are missing is the salsa. Tamales are always ready for pick up no need to pre order.

My dad and I were craving tamales today and asked my neighbors where to get some good tamales in the area. They told us with EXCITEMENT«Go to La Dona!». they told us that it was right around the corner and that the tamales were good. We hopped in the car as soon as possible and made our way over to Tamaleria La Dona. We ordered one dozen of chicken, pork. beef, and cheese tamales. They are fantastic! Nice and moist and the masa to filling ratio isn’t bad at all! One thing that I LOVE is how they wrap each tamale in a wax or parchment paper sort of wrapping and it says«chicken/pollo, puerco/pork, and red/beef» on them! SOOO much better than other places where you have to guess which is pork and which is beef! It was $ 13.50 for one dozen. not too bad! a little over $ 1 each tamale. Totally worth it! We will definitely be coming here a lot more! Craving fulfilled!!!

Been driving by this place often and decided to try it out now that the holidays are right around the corner. I got the chicken, pork and cheese tamales all for $ 1 each! Awesome prices. The meats were delicious. The only reason they didn’t get five stars is the meat to masa ratio. It’s about 35% meat 65% masa. If you like that kind of ratio then this is the spot for you. I’m going to give it a few more tries but if the meat isn’t as visible as the masa, I’ll be looking for other spots for holiday tamales. Other than that, the staff was friendly, tamales were warm and ready, I was in and out in about 3 minutes and parking’s not a hassle. Overall good experience.

Thanks to my tax guy, Mario for sending me out this way as I mentioned my search for tamales de piña. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall establishment that’s been open for at least a year now. La Dona Tamaleria’s second location that specializes in tamales but also offers menudo & birria. I came here in search for tamales de piña as I’ve never had them before. Thanks to fellow Unilocalers, Carlos G & Mike S for peaking my interest. FYI, they only sell pineapple & strawberry tamales on Fri, Sat, & Sun. I tried their cheese and jalepeno tamale w/their house salsa and it was okay. Imo, not much flavor in the masa w/o the salsa. 3 stars for the tamale, A-Ok. The lady helping me was awesome so I bumped it up another star. There’s 15 min parking spots out front and additional private parking @ the side of the building. A few indoor two seater tables are available for dine-in. No outdoor seating. I’m definitely going to have to make another trip out this way on the weekend soon! :)
