Anderson Animal Shelter-A Humane Society

I love this place. I’m a huge animal lover, and I believe that everyone that works here is as well. I have been volunteering here with my work and on my own time for the past 3 years, and I have never had a bad experience. I also recently fostered a dog for a few days, and when it didn’t work out I brought the pup back and told them I had found a family who wanted to adopt him… Anderson is very hassle free with adoptions, and my new furry friend was adopted by a great family less than 3 weeks later! Every single one of the staff I have met have been friendly and enthusiastic towards the animals there, and their facility is really nice as well. I didn’t even mention the community events they take part in! This place is great, and I actually have my boyfriend coming in to receive volunteer training next month as well! Keep doing what you’re doing. :)

The volunteers at this shelter poured HOURS into us helping find the right dog for our family. They are respectful, non-​judgmental (sadly, a problem at many shelters who seem to disdain humans), caring, and wise. Even though they are an hour and a half from us, we will keep returning and recommending them.

My experience with Anderson Animal Shelter is that they are caring individuals who really go the extra mile in making sure that people are matched up to the right pet for them. They fully explain the process and take as much time as needed to answer questions and concerns. Overall, the shelter is very clean and the animals are well taken care of. The fact that they offer a clinic for discounted spay and neuter surgeries is pretty great too!

Got to volunteer at Andersona Animal shelter yesterday! It was such a joy getting to know all the volunteers, and animals. Everyone was very friendly, and spoke so highly of the animals. It was great to see such good people, doing such great work for the animals they had. I really wanted to adopt some of the puppies they had, but my apartment at the moment is not animal friendly. Definetly will look to them when I am ready to make the move! Thank you for the great opportunity to work with you, and do a fraction of what you do everyday!

Very friendly and professional staff there. The dogs there are also trained very well. We have been looking for dogs around Aurora, Naperville, Oswego and other areas, we visited many animal shelters, and this one is the best. So many dogs that are so cute and have great personalities. Strongly recommend!

My wife and I raised three daughters and two dogs. The people here treated us like felons. We decided not to adopt here and won’t go back. At some point they need to realize that taking a chance on a person is better for the dog in the long run.
Plus — their fees are out of line with the other services in the area. Made me feel bad for the animals that wind up here.

Clean, happy, caring. Our adoption of Duncan, now Spike was a good experience. Visited several shelters but he was waiting here. Workers are caring, organized and helpful. facilities are clean and comfortable. Hope Spike lasts forever but whenever we need a pet, Anderson will be the place!

We recently adopted our dog from them and had a nice experience. Actually I have adopted a few pets from them over the years. I love rescue pets!
The only thing I would recommend they do differently is the older lady at the front desk who inputs the data into the computer would smile and be more hospitable. She seems like the last place she wants to be is there and you are almost a nuisance to her.
When we took our dog to the vet they noticed that Anderson got the micro chip numbers mixed up. Luckily the vet caught that and we were able to get it rectified, but I had to make another trip to the shelter to do that. This was a simple data entry quality control issue possibly the responsibility of the same lady at the front.
Overall they treat their animals quite well and I am happy to have a Humane Society close by me.

Anderson’s is a lovely place to adopt a pet. Their volunteers are very attentive and you can trust that your future pet is in good hands. They allow many cats to walk around free from their cages and rotate the cats which are out of their cages. The dogs get walked every day and have a nice yard and path they can walk through. They are also very committed to their no-​kill policy and saving animals from other shelters!

The volunteers are so nice, and I love the cat room! You can play with the free-​roaming cats or feed attention to the more needier ones in cages. In middle school, my friend and I did a science fair project with the help of Anderson Animal Shelter, and I look back on that experience with fondness. I have a dog right now, but if I decide to take on a cat or another dog someday, I’d look here: D

Chris and I finally decided to adopt a cat yesterday (FINALLY) — before coming to Andersons, we stopped at a Petco and PetSmart. Both didn’t have a huge selection of cats (which in reality is a great thing), and most of the kitties were in fact kittens. We were actually hoping for an older guy.
After walking into Andersons we were overcome by a TON of cats. Every type of cat, size and age. It was almost overwhelming, but what I found super amazing was not the amount of cats, but the staff. While with Petco and PetSmart the volunteers literally didn’t leave us be for a moment. I understand the reasoning, but I didn’t want this experience to feel like I was buying a car. We wanted to have an emotional connection with the animal, first and foremost. At Anderson’s, the staff answered my questions when I had them, and offered assistants when needed. In the end Chris and I had the chance to wander around and find the perfect guy on our own, and honestly, I feel like we won the jackpot.
Alex is AMAZING. After getting home with him, he pretty much took over the house, bed included. We couldn’t be more happier with his transition, and personality!

I would not advise adopting from this shelter. The staff is very rude and very unprofessional. They can also come off as very crude and two faced. They do not return your calls and can be rather vague when responding through emails. I was recently lied to in regards to being able to see my cat again. Upon returning him for medical treatment there was no talk of surrender and i would be able to see my cat in 2 weeks. Now i am being forced to pay money when i was made clear this Shelter would cover the surgery costs and i am no longer the cats owner. I find this to be extremely stressful and uncalled for. If you are considering this shelter for adoption be very careful and use common sense. Make sure you obtain any copies of forms you fill out. and be sure to check your animal to ensure it is healthy. My animal was not and now i no longer even have him in my custody. I don’t even know if he’s alive or if they decided to adopt him out to another family.

Horrible people if you have found a stray. I am sure they have a lot of people turning animals in but they have definitely lost all COMPASSION! The woman at front desk did not care and did not offer any assistance. She was cold and indifferent. She peered over the counter at the puppy we found without. Makes you think twice about rescuing a dog!!! I will never recommend them for any service due to the lack of customer concern. Unfortunately we live in a world where common decency towards others and customer service in any aspect is vanishing!!! Kane County Animal Control was very helpful, concerned and respectful to me and what our family did to recuse a stray that was malnourished and had scars around his neck from being tied up. The dog was almost hit by two cars on Rt 47. Kane County Animal Control adopts their animals out and has a beautiful facility! Such a shame we treat animals and people as disposable!!! I have 2 dogs already and when we are in the position to adopt another I would NEVER use Anderson, I’d look at Kane County!!. One experience can leave a bad taste in your mouth!!!

We recently adopted a cat from the Anderson Animal Shelter and were very impressed by the thoroughness of the staff. As Jeff K. mentions, they won’t send a pet home with just anyone. They want to find the best living situations («forever homes») for their animals and I really respect that.
Before the shelter lets anyone interact with the animals, they require ID (must be 18+) and an adoption questionnaire, including animal care questions along with information about the home. They want to know if you plan to declaw your cat, and if so, they’ll only let you adopt a younger cat. They want to know how long the pet will be left alone, particularly for those adopting dogs.
Once you’ve completed the questionnaire, the volunteers will escort you to a private visiting room with whichever animal you choose. The visiting rooms are a little dirty but not too bad. It’s nice to see how your prospective pet acts when there aren’t hundreds of other animals around. They also let you know if that animal has any special medical conditions. In our case, the cat we adopted needed a tooth pulled. The Shelter performed the service for free at a later appointment.
I love that this shelter lists animals online. I found Anderson Shelter and our cat in eBay’s Classifieds «Pets» section. I believe they also have a website. We drove out for Penelope and came home with Penelope. Anderson animals also come with $ 750 of «Pet Insurance», covering accidents and illnesses that develop after adoption. Not everything is covered, but this is a really nice extra that I haven’t seen anywhere else.
Overall, this is a well-​run facility with a lot of sweet animals that need homes. Definitely stop by if you’re considering adopting a dog or cat.

Anderson seems to treat the dogs well, and seems to care about them, but not for the potential owners. This is definitely one of those shelters that is looking for the perfect home for each dog, where the dog will be with someone who stays home all day. Sadly my fiancée and I are regular people with regular 9 – 5 jobs, and because of that Anderson let us know that we are not suitable dog owners, and that it would be better for the little guy we fell in love with to stay in a shelter. They broke my fiancée’s heart and turned me off to the whole idea of adoption. I’ve had many dogs in the past, and If I’d gone to a pet store I’d have a loving companion now.

I have gotten ALL my «friends» from Anderson. These people are awesome! Of the many best friends I have had throughout the years (I’ve been adopting for 25 years!) every one of them came from Anderson: Afghan Hound, Dalmation, English Setter, Cocker Spaniel, Lhasa Apso, Bichon Frise, Great Dane… Don’t let anyone tell you shelter dogs are «mutts» or throw-​away dogs — all of mine have been purebred with outstanding behavior and personality. Save a life — adopt a shelter pet. Please, be part of the solution, not part of he problem.
