I get the footling hotdogs like I always do and they haven’t changed a bit since I was little and that is great. The people that work there even when they are busy are always polite and friendly! You guys have added some new things to the menu which I look forward to trying especially the ice cream next summer :) thanks for a great dinner guys and gals!

Classic roadside stand with friendly service and still serving their original, steamed foot-long hotdogs. Everything is great here! However, Tom’s hours are 10:30AM to 7:00PM daily, not 11:00 as this page indicates.

Gross. And the girl who takes the orders has a very annoying voice. The only place to pee is in a porta potty. Really??? Paying customers ought to have a real toilet and running water. My hot dog wasn’t even hot… I am sure the board of health wouldn’t like that. Gross.

Well shoot, I was looking forward to discovering a new favorite roadside stand to add to our rotation, but this was just aiight for me. The location is sweet, the people are sweet, it has just the right mix of funk-factor-with-interesting-menu, but the dogs are meh. They’re pale and blah on a pale blah bun. Maybe I’m spoiled by Rondau’s buttery grilled buns, but Tom’s dogs just lacked any wow for me. That said, a lot of Unilocalers seem to love this place, so please go give it a try for yourself… and I’ll make a return visit to sample more of their menu and will update my review accordingly.

The Fries were great but the hot dog was devoid of taste. The dog looked boiled and was devoid of grill marks. The New England roll was straight out of the bag; it was not toasted.

While on a random drive to nowhere, I passed this busy little hotdog joint. They have regular footlong dogs as well as their specialties. I’m kicking myself for getting my «regular» ketchup, mustard, and onions. I should have tried the chili dog; it looked delicious. I bit into my boring choice and it crunched like a good hotdog skin should crunch. It was tasty but nothing special. The staff inside were super friendly and kind. It wasn’t the fake«we’ll say anything to get you to come back again» kindness, they just seem to love what they do. The prices were very fair too; always a plus. They also serve burgers, grinders, wraps, soup, and… ice cream! If the one hotdog didn’t fill me up, I definitely would have gone back for an ice cream sundae or shake. The building was small and quaint. It fit appropriately with the surroundings and was a pleasant stop on my way to nowhere. There was a sign outside advertising Cruise Night every Tuesday, May through October, weather permitting. How fun!

I’ve been coming here before I can even remember. I can only get up there about once or twice a year now, but I look forward to it every time. I at least get the chili cheese dog every time and it’s the same as when I first had it over 20 years ago. I’ve tried so much more over the years and am never disappointed. Perfect for a couple hot dogs and fries on a nice day. Hope they continue to thrive for many years to come!

It has been a while since I have been to Tom’s Hot Dog, and I almost forgot how much I love this place! The dogs from this little roadside stand are incredible, and they have such a great selection of hot dog options. Every time we go to this shop I have to buy one of their California Dogs. This hot dog topped with cream cheese and roasted red peppers is delicious and my favorite option. I also think that this food stand has great French fries and onion rings. Them staff here is always polite and quick. Even when the shop is packed, which tends to be often, the staff get you in and out the door quickly. I also really love the fact that they now have an indoor seating area and are open all year long. I can’t wait to go back and stuff my face with great food for a great price!

Always packed. Good food for a good price. Hot dogs are their thing but I love their giant burgers! Try the $ 5 milkshakes… I swear there’s got to be a quart of ice cream in each one. A meal or two in and of itself! Nice staff; fast even when crazy busy.

This place is in the middle of nowhere, haha. But I feel that way towards most places around these parts. So glad my friend showed me this place! I got a Bacon Cheese Long Hot Dog and it was beautiful. And I’m not even a hot dog fan! Prices are cheap too. But guys, CASHONLY!!! Very small and outdoorsy type place. Great for a nice sunny day. If you happen to be in the area, it’s definitely worth stopping by.

A little disappointed… This place is always hopping, and seems like it’s been here for years… but I don’t get it. Maybe I’m a Hot Dog snob? Tom’s is a Valley staple, has been around for as long as I can remember. Today I was out on the bike, and decided to try them for the first time. First thing, the seating. The building seems really big, but they have only 2 indoor picnic tables. Which is fine during the summer, or nice weather, but if it’s a lousy day be prepared to eat sloppy dogs in your car. Bikers beware: The parking lot is a giant mudhole. Careful making the turn into the lot. I ordered the Tom’s Famous, a footlong with American Cheese, Spaghetti sauce, and a little grated Parmesan. It was meh. The dog is a natural casing, true, but has no flavor at all. Boiled, it tasted like a hot dog small children would love– bland and flavorless. And served on an untoasted bun, the sauce soaked in and made for a wet sloppy mess, and it was served stuck to a napkin instead of in a paper tray. I’m willing to bet that they would toast the bun if you asked, but it seems like that should be on offer. That said, it isn’t all bad. The service was great, friendly and fast. The Soda was ice cold, but had no ice in it. And the fries were great, fresh cooked, peel on. And the menu is impressive– If you can dream it, you can have a dog that way. Overall, 3 out of 5. Not horrible, but not great.

Stopped off here on my way back from Albany & ordered a chili cheese dog as well as a dog with coleslaw only. The dogs were very high quality… good snap and hadn’t been in a steamer for days. I’m not used to having the toppings put under the dog… isn’t that why they are called toppings? Worthy of a 30+ minute detour if you are out that way.

3 long dogs for under $ 10? Bargain city! This place was recommended in my hot dog opinion thread so I knew we had to go. They call their dogs«long dogs» for good reason. These are long dogs and long buns. Natural casing but not too spicy. Overall a good beefy flavor. I got two dogs, one just yellow mustard and sweet relish and the kraut special: a long dog with bacon, sauerkraut, cheese and brown mustard. Although I do prefer my dogs grilled, these were still good because of the natural casing and the flavor of the dog. They had that wonderful snap. I didn’t ask but would have to say that due to the length of the dogs, the buns must be specially made. The kraut dog was a little slippery with the cheese and kraut, but I managed. The bacon under the dog was very crisp and a nice addition. I might have added just a titch more mustard but it really was good. The mustard/relish dog is my barometer and I use that to compare. It held up well. The BF gets his dog«undressed», just the dog on the bun, plain. He also enjoyed his dog even though he’s not as big a hot dog freak as I am. Overall a wonderful pit stop, I’d definitely come again when I am in the area!

a spot I stop at when I’m near by. I love their hot dogs! Its not that cheap generic crap you get at the super market either. They use real casings for the dogs! and their boiled! oh and their prices are really reasonable.

I love hot dogs, though they don’t like my waist line! But every once in while when I’ve done my walking and exercising, occasionally I treat myself to a hot dog and fries at Tom’s in Whately, on Rt. 10. I either get the dog with kraut and mustard, or with onions and mustard. The hot dogs are steamed, not grilled and the fries are hand cut on the premises. The dogs have a bit of a «snap» to them and the toppings I’ve tried thus far are pretty good. My only reason I don’t give them a full five stars is the roll. I just think there has to be a better roll out there. Even when the dog is dry the roll just gets slightly mushy from the heat of the dog. I have had better rolls so I know they exist. The hot dog stand itself is an institution dating back to about 1954 when Tom first opened the roadside stand. There is 1950 – 1960 period rock and roll playing outside so you really get into the whole retro drive in mystique when you’re there. Prices are fairly decent and if you get a hot dog and fries, chances are you’ll be served about as fast as you get your wallet out. Beware though, around noon to 1PM it can get a little busy but it’s very much worth the wait. My favorite: Kraut Dog w/mustard, order of fries and a large root beer. If you prefer grilled over steamed, see my review for Sugerloaf Frostie on the other side of the river in Sunderland MA.

Tom’s sign: « Tom’s Long Hot Dog Grinders Burgers « Yep. A full foot of mouth watering meat, covered or slathered in whatever you like your phallic food topped by… great local fries are served as well… but don’t blink as you’re zipping along 5⁄10 or you’ll miss this tiny brown stand… Tom’s has a number of picnic tables out back with a lackluster view of a row of shrubbery barely covering the highway behind it… if you can resist the temptation to down your dog post haste(and can keep it in tact/warm for the drive) head a bit up the road to the top of Sugarloaf — a great view to ogle while nibbling on your naturally cased 12» of piquant…
