You go to a pizza house expecting a local pizza house. Nothing«foodie» about south berwick house, but it’s solid. Super friendly consistently. They say 15 minutes, it’s 14 minutes. Great Gluten Free pizza too– try the Mediteranean. Generous salads. If you have kids in sports and travel through South Berwick, this is your spot.

Okay… I’m hard pressed to remember when I’ve ever given a restaurant 1 star. A place has to truly deserve it and the South Berwick House of Pizza does. Background — we’ve lived in SB for over 15 years and have ordered from this place hundreds of times. The pizza is so-so and the staff is usually on the ride side but it’s been the only game in town for pizza. So tonight we had a small b-day party and thought we’d order some pizza. An hour later — no pizza. I called to see why and was told that it was my fault that we didn’t have our food because I hadn’t given my address… I had. I told the guy on the phone that I have been ordering for years and that I had given my address. He told me that I was wrong. He then told me that«the pizzas probably aren’t too bad so I’ll send a driver now.» When I said no wasn’t willing to spend $ 50 on cold pizza he again told me that it was my fault. So, I will not order from this place again. This was finally the straw that broke my back. If you want mediocre pizza and rude treatment — call them. Otherwise go somewhere else.

My review is not about food or food quality. I find that to be sufficent. I would like to speak to the ways in which orders can be taken or payments made. After being a South Berwick resident for over 20 years our family has been very loyal to this pizzeria. However it has been frustrating to see other local eateries be much more accommodating to consumers particularly when it comes to payment methods. I suggest South Berwick Family Pizza invest in a portable credit card machine for delivery orders, an online menu and payment method or the«square» payment available to iPhone user. I see many small businesses who find this new technology very convenient. I dislike having to give my credit card payment over the phone for every order. It is very tedious and time consuming. I doubt households have the amount of cash offhand to pay the driver.

I was surprised to find such a bright and clean restaurant tucked into the little storefronts on Main Street. It was very busy in the kitchen. Plenty of tables for two or four and they seem to do mostly take out business. Our order was called in and we are there. It was ready early, hot and very good. Crust of the pizza was bready not doughy, like the difference between white bread and a heavy artisan bread, it was light like white bread. Not too much sauce but just enough and excellent cheese. A tad sweet and not greasy. Parking on the street was plentiful. We would return.

Frozen meatballs, yech, Cheese steak subs with half the steak and half the cheese of any other real sub shops. Never again. Ill stick with their ok pizza in a bind. Just OK. This place needs some competition so they are forced to step up.

i really really really love the workers, there, i always have. They have always been courteous, fast and friendly. I have to say i ordered two caeser salads with GRILLED chicken and not only was the chicken cold, very tough and chewy, but it was obvious it was pre grilled and sat around. I paid close to 20 bux and we really wanted hot chicken. disappointed…i do like the pizza there at all… I do enjoy the veggie wraps… a little pricey and not good quality

I try hard to support local business which is why I gave this place a shot despite the reviews. The pros: reasonable price and friendly staff. There are a few printable coupons on their website so my large gourmet pizza ended up costing $ 15 before tax. The cons: the pizza’s not great. As others said, the pizza is greasy and I didn’t think the sauce/cheese were all that tasty. I will try somewhere else next time :(

I have been ordering from these guys for 15 years. Pros: They have a wide selection of food, from many types of salads to Lasagne, Pizza, and a bunch of different subs. The steak subs are great. The pizza can be very greasy so tell them to go light on the cheese and that problem will be remedied. The owner sometimes answers the phone and as far as customer service goes, I have never had any problems. In fact, they deliver and take personal checks from local residents even for deliveries! The cons are that the pizza can be greasy, the wait can be 40 mins(not horrific and you can call ahead) and the interior is pretty basic as far as sitting down and eating. It can be a bit pricey. Parking is on street only but that is not a problem. They are not open super late(small town). By the way, they are one of only a handful of restaurants in this town, and in my opinion the owner works very hard and produces a good product(just please try to get those pizzas a bit less greasy!)

I was babysitting in South Berwick tonight and was in some desperate need of dinner as I had barely eaten all day. I googled delivery in the area and came up with South Berwick House of Pizza. I gave them a call and the man who answered the phone was relatively personable. My biggest complaint about him was when I asked if they could give me vinegar as salad dressing he sounded confused before saying they could give me oil and vinegar — not actually the same thing. We hung up the phone after he told me it would be about 30 minutes — he never gave me a total. Fifteen minutes later I missed a call from the restaurant and, upon calling them, they asked if I was in Berwick or South Berwick. I told them I was in South Berwick, as that was what the family I was working for had told me. The man on the phone thanked me and told me the driver was on their way and should be there soon. As I was only about a mile and a half from the restaurant, I was impressed at their apparent quick service. This feeling was short lived. I called the store again an hour after I placed my order, and politely asked if my pizza was still on the way. They told me the driver was out, but having trouble finding the house. They asked me which side of a specific landmark the house was on, but I was unable to tell him as I am the babysitter and don’t actually live here. I gave him other landmarks and information about the house. I felt as though he was blaming me for the driver being unable to find us, as he told me repeatedly that it was not possible to stop and look at mailboxes on Route 236. I neglected to point out to him that it was very easy to see the mailbox numbers, as that was how I myself had found the house my first time working for this particular family. I waited a few more minutes before I got a call from the delivery driver himself. He told me where he was and I was able to ascertain that he had gone the opposite direction on Route 236. When I told him this, he told me my area was actually considered Berwick, not South Berwick, and that had caused the confusion. He informed me he would make a delivery where he was and then make his way to me. Upon finishing this conversation I typed my current address into my iPhone GPS and discovered that, even without specifying Berwick or South Berwick, it identified my address perfectly. Am I wrong in assuming that pizza places use a GPS to locate your address? The driver finally arrived an hour and a half after I made my order. He gave me my food with no apology, ignored the child I was watching who was trying to show him a lego kit he had put together, and informed me that my meal for one would come to $ 18.93. I am a vegetarian and therefore my restaurant meals never cost much. I probably could have eaten at some of the highest end restaurants on the seacoast for cheaper. I handed him a $ 20 and he pulled out a wad of bills. He handed me a dollar and then awkwardly said he could go to his car if I wanted my exact change. I told him not to worry about it, and closed the door leaving the 7 cents as the only tip. I don’t think a delivery driver who was on the road for and hour and a quarter really deserves a tip. The food, while cold, was actually quite good. It was overpriced and a little oily, but still good. I am appalled, however, that I never even had an apology, let alone was given a financial break. I won’t order from them again.

I have to totally disagree with Quinn last post. I never bother with writing reviews. Been going to sbhop for years. Everyone seems nice and the manager is awesome. Delivered wrong topping to my house then ran another one out to me quickly free. Gotta love that. Food pretty good. Try em for yourself

Ordered 2 large Italian subs tonite — asked for everything on them except hot peppers — I also requested olive oil and salt n pepper. Got home — the subs were huge, fresh and delicious /but they had mayo on them. Ugh. We ate them anyway but it was a disappointment — next time I will have to check everything. But prices are great! Food is so fresh! Customer service is excellent!

Poor South Berwick House. It really didn’t have to be this way. I have a hard time justifying giving anyone one star when I legitimately enjoy their food. But the justification is there. The subs? Pretty good. The pizza? Pretty good — with above average crust. Located near the far superior Pepperland, South Berwick *should* be able to easily cover the South Berwick, ME& Rollinsford, NH area of families looking for relatively cheap, quick, tasty food. So where’s the catch? Why the solo star? South Berwick House of Pizza has to have the WORST customer service of any restaurant(pizza place or otherwise) that I’ve ever run across in the entire Tri-State(Mass, NH, ME) region! The girl who answers the phone to take your order? Curt, Annoyed, Mumbly, Disinterested, Rude.(I have to assume that they’ve had different girls work the phone over the last 5 years, but it’s hard for me to tell as they’re all equally rude. It doesn’t matter if you call when it’s slow or busy — they act mad that you even made the phone ring. Guess what? If you don’t like taking orders on a Friday night, maybe working at a pizza place isn’t for you.) The management(or what passes for it)? Even worse. I can’t tell you who is responsible for the ridiculous way they treat people as whenever I’ve had a complaint(again, never about the food — just the way myself or my family has been treated) I’m never told who I’m talking to. No one will tell me who I need to talk to. I never get an apology. Just the run around and more curt, rude behavior. And honestly? I’m not one to easily complain. Just be nice. Get my order right(and even then — as long as it’s tasty, I don’t usually care if it’s screwed up!) And taste good. And you’ll have my business forever. Are those 3 things really that hard? So why did I keep going back after repeated attitude? Simply, it’s one of the only pizza places in the neighborhood and I actually DO enjoy the food. But I’m not going to keep GIVINGYOUMYMONEY if you think I’M NOTWORTHBEINGRESPECTEDASYOURCUSTOMER. A majority of my area friends and family all came to this conclusion long before I did(after shoddy treatment over the years), but I guess I just kept naively thinking S.B.H.O.P. would finally change. They didn’t. So I have. Smiley’s & Kendall Pond’s gain, South Berwick’s loss.

I stopped at South Berwick House of Pizza for pizza takeout recently. This casual eatery serves pizza(10″ &16″), pizza calzones, subs, wraps, salads,.burgers, chicken fingers, gyros, pasta dinners, and Pepsi products. Some gourmet pizzas offered include Greek(tomatoes, onions, olives, feta), eggplant, ranchero(grilled chicken, bacon, onions, garlic, tomatoes, cheese, ranch dressing, no sauce), Aegian(artichokes, feta, roasted red peppers), pesto chicken, and several others. The prices are pretty fair, most items under $ 10. The place is order at the counter with multi color overhead lighted menu boards, a TV, and ample seating from the counter to the front door. I decided to keep it simple and got a small 10″ cheese pizza($ 5.95 plus tax), which was ready in about 10 minutes on a steady busy evening. The pizza had a firm thin crust with crispy thick edges with good sauce and lots of cheese. The pizza tasted pretty good, but the pie was very oily and greasy on the top. I had one hot small slice and the rest for lunch the next day after some of the oil absorbed into the crust for less mess. HOURS: Mon-Thurs: 4PM-9PM; Fri-Sat: 11:30AM-10PM; Sun: 11:30AM-9PM
