Thank you for making this Phoenix gal who was passing through South Bend feel so welcome. John recommended the perfect beer, Jeffrey made sure I was okay up in the front of the restaurant by myself, my waitress was as sweet as could be, and Bruno even came over to chat. Oh, and did I mention how awesome the pizza is? I’m on the road a lot, and Bruno’s is exactly what I look for in every city and town I visit. Thank you for making this traveler feel so welcome and for sending her home with half a pizza for the morning.

On our way from Chicago to Philadelphia we stopped on the Interstate, tired and hungry, and found a little gem of a pizza place. Bruno’s had, I really mean this, the best meatball sub sandwhich I have ever ordered. The Italian side salad was also very good. This is the kind of neighborhood place which any neighborhood in America would be proud to call its own.

I have no idea what all the hype is on this pizza. I’ve had better frozen pizza from walmart. Two thumbs down.

We used to really love it here but lately they are out of ingredients like sausage every week and the pop machine is out of order. Disappointing.

Brunos food is of the highest quality nothing is made from frozen food. Everything is made to order meatballs and sauce made fresh daily including all pizza products. Salads are not made from bagged lettuce cut fresh daily. The Cataldo family takes pride in making more food for the money. The menu has a lot of other pasta dishes. Brunos has never delivered spoiled or contaminated food to any of its costumers .This immigrant family has fed a lot of people over 40 years any complaint means nothing.

Was in town for a tournament weekend at UND and our team ordered Bruno’s to the hotel after a long, hot day of many games. Everyone was absolutely starving. Granted, I’m from out of town and have eaten no other pizza in South Bend, but Bruno’s pizza was delicious! I loved the thicker crust, the sauce and the cheese; plus the way they pie cut it. I had two pieces, went back for another and it was all gone! I wish there was a Bruno’s in my hometown; if I’m ever back in South Bend in need of a place to order pizza from, I’d for sure pick Bruno’s!

We lived in South Bend for a year. We lived very close to the original location. I liked how you could go pick up your pizza and meet the family. Their pizza is amazing and their Italian Salad is worth the cost. I highly recommend you try their pizza if you’re in South Bend.

Extremely disappointing. I grew up on Bruno’s and I was looking forward to the awesome pizza from my childhood. The service was friendly, though slow. We had to ask for menus and I had to retrieve my own high chair for the little one. The complimentary bread was hard and tasteless. Garlic cheese bread was barely cooked, calamari was Ho-hum. The pizza was ok… Tangy sauce, rich spicy sausage, but the crust was soggy. Portions were huge, so my party of 13 left full, which is good. The place was filthy. Dust and cobwebs everywhere. Floors were grimy, tablecloths were ripped, bathroom was out of tissue in two stalls. I was thankful for the dim lighting; otherwise, I may have lost my appetite. The place was packed and all I can figure is that they’re running on their past reputation. Come on Bruno’s, what happened?

First off the food was really great, but… The service was awful. We arrived at 6:00pm. 40 minutes later, a guy took our menus off the table without asking us, keep in mind we have not ordered yet. Then 20 minutes later she took out order. It was another 45 minutes to get our food. Next time we will just call in a take out order.

We have been going to Bruno’s for years and I reviewed it favorably in the past. However, things have changed. The prices are ridiculous. We overlooked that until our last visits when the service was horrendous. This was NOT a football weekend. Tables that were seated last were served first while others waited forever. One family just got up & left. Our pizza took longer than any pizza should. we ate it and were going to ask for the check when the salad finally came. We said we didn’t want it but they said to take it home. We assumed it would be taken off the check. This was on top of finding silverware ourselves, no refills etc. Somewhere in the midst of the chaos, the son(?) stepped in and started yelling at staff in the middle of the dining area. Then we noticed the salad was on the bill. we pointed it out to the«host» and told him the service was chaotic. He said it wasn’t his fault– he wasn’t responsible for that area of the restaurant. This was the last straw as he was dealing with my parents who are the sweetest people and NEVER ask for something to be taken off the check or send anything back to the kitchen. I have made a living as a server and have had bad days but this was crazy. After YEARS of Bruno’s pizza, we are done!

Went here on a groupon. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. The pizza was HUGE!!! Would feed a family of 6! May need some outside lighting and better décor, but pizza was good!

This place is living on its past reputation Overrated is a word not to be tossed around lightly, and in the past when I have come here, I have thought Best Pizza in the world, but now I am thinking of not coming back… It is not bad, it is just not great like it used to be. This place is sitting on its laurels, taking life for granted… they used to make a helluva pizza, and now it is just mediocre, short on toppings, nothing special. I would like to say that it was the busy ND football weekend that screwed things up, but it was not, in the past we were in for a ND football weekend, and the place was packed, this trip, almost half empty. The management needs to focus on pizza making instead of moving tables, and also fall back on what made them the best pizza in South Bend. This trip it was bland… I totally hope they go back to their old ways, because it used to be the best pizza in the world.

We had a large party(14) but I do not feel that is an excuse for the amount of time it took to get our pizza… 2.5 hours!!! That’s what I said 2.5hrs… Then to make matters worse, one of the 5 pizzas was wrong. This will be our last visit to the original Bruno’s

The best pizza i’ve ever had! Its pricey but so worth it. The sauce is the best because its unlike any other. You must try Brunos if you haven’t. But you must go to the Prarie location. The rest don’t compare. The only thing I don’t like is their odd hours.

dear lord. this place takes the cake. i have been to south bend many, many times and feel like a turd for never having been to bruno’s. this place has been in the same family for generations. the sicillian grandmother and her sister sit in the lobby and thank everyone. grandad still cooks(pushing 90 i would guess). sons, daughters, grandkids, cousins — they all lend a hand. from the outside, this spot is easy to pass by, but walk in and you are smack dab in the middle of a scene from the godfather(the happy scenes). all this is nice, but what a bout the food? wow. the pizza is tremendous. but careful! a 16 inch pizza in sicily must equal a 24 inch pizza. they are HUGE! and AWESOME. the peperoni cheese bread is the master of appetizers. the beer selection rocks. and, best of all, in addition to all of the cool vintage italian décor, there are numerous fighting irishmen and ND flags:). go irish! go italians!

I was all ready to give Bruno’s three stars because, really, it deserves three stars. But I just gave three stars to a place in my hometown(Whittier) that also deserves three stars, and Bruno’s is better than that place. By far – er, star. Bruno’s was a last-minute replacement for Elia’s for my and my friend Kathy’s graduation dinner. It wasn’t quite what I had expected, but it was also a little bit more, so that was nice. It feels kind of like a really old carnival. Not a rundown carnival, just a really old one. I love restaurants with atmospheres like this, so I guess I love Bruno’s. The pizza is pretty good, but it’s heavy. I often overeat, and it’s usually not a pleasant experience, but there are those times in life when I’m prepared to have that feeling because I am that hungry or because I just want to eat that much or because I’m rewarding myself in some masochistic way. I did this at Bruno’s – loosened my belt pre-meal and everything – and the post-dinner coma was about what I expected it to be. My experience here didn’t quite cap off my time in South Bend or epitomize any one particular feeling or even provide an unforgettable memory, but it was good for what it was, and that’s definitely a win in my book.(In case you haven’t noticed, I tend to be disappointed quite regularly and hard.)

Great pizza and atomosphere in South Bend… Love the pizza ovens right at the front door! The Prairie Street(original) location is the best.
